Like the title says, as we head into the yearlong "ending" of Phase 3 with Infinity War, it is time to look back on all the movies that comprised this era so far and pick your favorite!

Phase 3 has been the strongest selection of MCU films so far. I don't think it is close. My favorite one is Captain America: Civil War, but it was close between it and Black Panther. I am very high on Black Panther.

Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, and Thor: Ragnarok are all in my top 5 MCU as of today. I am betting Infinity War ends up in there somewhere though :cwink:

For me:

1. Thor: Ragnarok
2. Black Panther
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
4. Captain America: Civil War
5. Doctor Strange
6. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Ranking phase 3:

Captain America: Civil War
Black Panther
Thor: Ragnarok
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Doctor Strange

Ranking these films is almost like splitting hairs for me. Especially spots 4-6. Not much separates them.

Civil War, but they’ve all been pretty good to great.

Ranking phase 3:

Captain America: Civil War
Black Panther
Thor: Ragnarok
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Doctor Strange

Ranking these films is almost like splitting hairs for me. Especially spots 4-6. Not much separates them.

Phase 3 has been amazing. No wonder they have to go a different route after phase 3. The level of hype a phase 4 would have to live up to is impossible.

For me:

1. Thor: Ragnarok
2. Black Panther
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
4. Captain America: Civil War
5. Doctor Strange
6. Spider-Man: Homecoming
Difference between my ranking and yours; I move 4&5 above 2.

Civil War
Black Panther
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Thor: Ragnarok
Spider-Man:Homecoming
Doctor Strange

That is some Pixar stuff streak there.......

Wow, this a tough one. Loved CW upon my first viewing in 2016, but it’s got worse after re-watches for me.

I am been quite vocal about how over rated I find Homecoming, and I feel GOTG2 is under rated.

Ragnorak I LOVED both times so that will likely get my vote, however I want to see BP again before voting.

Not seen them all but I will say that Phase 3 has been the best phase consistently of quality thus far.

Same as mine except I have DS and CW the other way around. Excellent opinion forming skills all around, well done. :cwink:

Black Panther might be my favorite Marvel film, but I wanna see it again before crowning it.

Homecoming is up there as my 2nd or 3rd favorite Marvel film. It's the way all solo films should have been after Iron Man: unique in tone, character pieces, and consistent. Its first act isn't a strong as Iron Man's, but it's third act is significantly better. It's not as complex as Batman Begins, but it's a 101 on Spidey the way Begins is a 101 on Batman. It takes Spidey back to his roots, shows what made him big and how that's relevant today. And it does the serialized formula of the comics perfect. Completely changed my mind on Spidey not working as a movie character.

Guardians 2 is the most auteur film Marvel made after BP. It's got some script issues, particularly the villain's motivations. It's got some forced humor, but overall the most emotional film in the MCU at the time of release. It has a story to tell, which I feel the first film didn't have much. It nails the family theme. Sometimes it's too forced, but is beautifully done wherever it isn't. Overall the things I like about it make me forgive the more technical issues I mentioned.

Civil War's got some great moments, but hasn't aged well for me. Too bland in a lot of places, and the political allegory isn't as thought-out as they think it is. It's biggest strength are its balancing act and character moments. Reminds me of Rises a little - full of amazing scenes on their own, but not that amazing overall. It's a great to go back to on YouTube even if I don't feel the need to go back to the whole thing for 2 hours.

Doctor Strange is the most "meh" on the list. Easily my least favorite. Not much to say about it.

Lastly, still haven't seen Ragnarok. I keep procrastinating on that. :cwink:

Civil War is my 2nd or 3rd favorite MCU film so went with that one.

Civil War
Homecoming
Black Panther
Thor
Strange
Guardians 2

I've really enjoyed all of them though. Marvel is on a roll!

Edit: Shouldn't this thread be in the Marvel Films section?

Civil War is the most intense! I can't wait to see if Infinity War could top it.

Now that we've accrued some votes and thoughts, my personal ranking.

Great or Good
1. Black Panther
2. Spider-Man: Homecoming
3. Captain America: Civil War
4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
5. Thor: Ragnarok

and then 6. Doctor Strange

Strange
Civil War
Thor/Panther
Guardians
Homecoming

All very good movies.

Ranking wise:

Ragnarok
Civil War
Black Panther
Homecoming
GOTG2
Dr. Strange

Phase 1 was a nice intro, Phase 2 had a rocky start w/ IM3 & Thor Dark World....but my gawd Phase 3 is the prime of Marvel, imo....I could honestly select any one of those choices.

Civil War - Brilliant. Such a darker toned Marvel movie with such emotional depth with Tony and the tension between both sides seemed legit. A lot of twists and turns in this film. The intro of Spider-Man & Black Panther were epic and just created so much excitement for their solo movies.

Guardians Vol.2 - Loved this one. It still felt like the previous film, but new and fresh. Yondu made the film. Kurt Russell as Ego was so freaking awesome and such an epic villain. The sister rivalry storyline continued and developed so well.

Spider-Man Homecoming - After the TERRIBLE last three Spider-Man films, MCU fixed all the mistakes of Marc Webb's Spider-Man. It was a different take on Spider-Man, but still felt true to his origins. The addition of Iron Man / Tony in the film was a nice touch and made it truly feel like Peter Parker belonged in the MCU universe. Michael Keaton as Vulture was absolutely perfect. He was a great villain. Rather than the usual "we have to stop villain before he destroys the world" - it was a smaller story about Spider-Man trying to stop a thief (Vulture). Thats really it. That was true to the early comics of Spider-Man just tries to stop robbers and thieves.

Thor Ragnarok - Colorful, funny, light hearted, great villain - what more could you want from a Threequel ? Thor Ragnarok was so damn entertaining from start to finish. Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, and Cate Blanchett were perfect casting choices and made the film even that much more better. It was great to see MCU do a buddy adventure movie with two members of the Avengers.

Black Panther - One of the most emotional MCU movies ever. So much heart. Black Panther delivered on every level for me. It also had one of the best MCU villains of all time. The movie was so epic to me.

But my favorite of Phase 3.......

I think I'm the only one who voted for Doctor Strange, but DS was my favorite of them all. He was an interesting character and I think out of all the Phase 3 films, Doctor Strange had the best character arc. He went from cocky Tony Stark like character to a humbled mature wizard. It was the best arc for me. The relationship between him and the ancient one was very interesting and compelling. I can rewatch this one prolly the most out of all Phase 3.

Strange is my favorite as well. This is the only place on the internet that didn’t care for it all that much, apparently. One of the best CBM origin films; great character study/arc, visuals, underrated supporting cast, score, with a core of heartfelt spirituality and journey of self (re)discovery while learning to find something in life worth living for. It’s brilliant.
