Anybody else picked this up? I'd say for a Bendis comic it was a good deal better than what he usually produces, especially as far as the New Avengers are concerned. He had to wrap this up in one issue and I suspect that was largely the reason for the improvement, since he HAD to get this finished by the last page.

So all in all what I liked was:

Done in one (For Bendis - a feat), there was some action, Cheung drew the hell out of Iron Patriot, and I did like Venom freaking out at the sight of Spider-Man.

What I didn't like:

Thor was barely in this. He shows up at the start, gets his ass kicked by Ymir and pops up at the end to stop the Dark and New teams from fighting each other. Although, on the other hand, maybe that was a blessing (Bendis writing less of Thor I mean).

Oh, Ares and Thor seemed pretty chummy with each other.

Usual Bendis dialogue. I swear in group shots, I have no idea who's talking half the time.

I'd give this a weak recommendation considering that its free.

don't have it yet. I've only seen the preview.

I Just went and got it.
It's just the fact they're both gods and the Asgardians and Olympians have always had a respect for each other.

Wow. It'd been so long since I'd read anything written by Bendis, I was completely unprepared by how many times someone would say "uh" in the middle of a sentence. It's jarring.

Yeah, the dialogue sucks but we knew it would going in. It's Bendis, after all. That said, I enjoyed it. It's always nice to see the Avengers actually embrace something extraordinary, especially under Bendis' pen, and the literal merging of Earth with an occult realm under Ymir was pretty extraordinary. The climax was shoddy as all hell, though. Ares just grabs the Twilight Sword (which was surprisingly small here, given that it's supposed to be Surtur's sword, but I can excuse that because things in mythology change size all the time) and it's over. Everybody's back on Earth and all is well. That just wasn't a satisfying climax, but that's not really surprising because, again, Bendis.

Ares and Thor seemed respectful of each other, which I guess makes sense. Ares seemed a little too respectful, though, given that they've been enemies a whole lot more than they've been allies in the past.

And, given Bendis' utterly atrocious dialogue for Thor, I'm very, very glad he wasn't in it that much, even if it meant Thor doing little more than landing near Spider-Man and then popping up at the end.

I'd have liked a little more Bucky but it was a nice little one off.

Yup yup yup Thor's "conveniently" placed out of the picture So bendass wouldn't have to deal with Thor. Even with the NEW Thor speak he can't Write Thor well I bet.

Hey what's that Ad toward the back with a Star and July dated at the bottom? Steve Rogers' return?

Have you read the New Avengers CW tie-ins. They're ALL "done-in-one" and they're all awesome.

Yes I have. They were decent character shots though, not actual Avengers vs. a threat stories.

oooh..i hope so!!

i like this issue...i wish sentry would join the real avengers tho..tho the last dark avengers issue..norm looked a bit frightened at seeing sentry at th end..

Good issue. Still waiting for the inevitable Thor vs Sentry throwdown though (in which Sentry should win, I might add).

Hmm... I'm a huge Thor fan so I don't know about Sentry winning. I do think Sentry has been his most badass in DA though. It's certainly a fight that's long overdue and one that I would LOVE to see.
change the word "decent" for "awesome" and I both agree and see your point.

"He came back to the earth with power this thunder god could not best." That's Bendis' idea of new Thor-speak. So yeah, it's a very, very good thing that Thor was out of the picture for most of the comic. ;)

Like I said it was a good thing. :D

This may get me flamed, but I thought the free issue was pretty freakin' good. I liked this issue a lot more than the recent New Avengers arc, that's for sure. Ares + Thor = awesome in my book.

Mine too, but we didn't really get more than about a page of that.

That seems to be the implication, but I'm guessing we'll be getting a 'Dark Caption America' with the Dark background, like we've gotten this Dark Wolverine and Dark Spider-Man stuff. Maybe Osborn will either get overthrown by a fake CA and have his own Dark Reign or Osborn may recruit his own CA and pass him off as Steve.

It may be a return of Rogers, though, we'll see

It would actually be pretty cool if Bendis and Brubaker worked together and had the Grand Director (a.k.a. "Bad Cap") join Osborn's ranks and have Osborn present him to the world as Steve Rogers, returned from the dead and fighting alongside the government and HAMMER to ensure their freedom again. That would be one hell of a PR boost to the Dark Avengers' rep.

It's what I'm thinking. I just don't think that Steve is going to come back during Dark Reign. I know people seem to want him to come back and punch Osborn, end it all and be the beacon of hope, but I just don't see it happening like that. Could be wrong, though

I've actually been wondering whether or not Osborn will even be in charge by the time the next big event rolls around.

I would guess not, I'm thinking him being overthrown may be the catalyst for the next event

July is only two months away, so I doubt we'll be in the next event that quickly.
