We havent heard a whole lot about Captain America and the movie that is in the works but Kevin Feige was nice enough to spill the beans that the film is in fact in the works and progressing well. Quote from MTV:
"Captain America is in development right now," Feige promised. "There's a writer named David Self working on the script, and it's part of the new slate we're doing with Paramount. I think it's going to be pretty exciting. He's a few more years away, but what's coming together is going to make fans very happy."

So awesome, I can't wait for this film!!!

It kinda pisses me off that an Iron Man movie is getting made before a new Captain America.

I don't see it that way, and that's not really the way it works either. If that were the case Blade would not have been the first major Marvel movie. Fantastic Four would have probably been second or third, and several names would have never been on the slate period. However in movies these are properties and certain people wish to invest in them. Favearu thought Iron Man was a good property, so he decided it was something he personally would like to do.

Frankly I would much rather they float the major properties out for a while instead of given them to the first guy who comes allong. X3, Punisher, and Fantastic Four were given to subpar talent IMO, and the movies (all of them) were so far afield of the comic it bordered on ridiculous.

I wish Captain America was NOW - :)

awesome news tho - thanks.

Why just a few years away? Heck just put the other stuff on the shelf and bring life into Captain America!

I hope this film is done right when it is created.

Ratner wasnt the first director for X3, so it doesnt fit your example.

Captain America needs a big time director with an expertise in big budget action packed war/adventure type movie (ie. Raiders of the Lost Ark/ Saving Private Ryan). Spielberg anyone?

I don't think you need $100 million to make a Captain America movie. No more than $50 million.

Actually it does, because the director quit and rather than attempting to restart and go back to the drawing boards they handed what they had off to somebody who could point and shoot the camera.

Also it fits my example perfectly, since more than the other two, it was an extremely rushed production both for the writing staff and directors. In other words, if they had actually tried to find someone who could write and direct a good movie, rather than just one that would be out in time for SR, they could have had a decent film. The talent for that film was subpar, the writers and directors had little experience, and did not even demand final cuts. That sounds subpar to me.

That's kind of ridiculous taking into account how Ghost Rider is a $120 million. Daredevil cost like $80 million.

Here's the simple truth, there's no way a Captain America movie will cost less than $100 million. Unless they seriously cut corners.

Captain America is really the only big Marvel heavy-hitter that hasn't gotten a movie made since the whole Marvel cinematic revival in 2000 with X-men. Though I suppose you could argue Thor too if you wanted.

Unless they go with a fresh face, a la Brandon Routh, I'd say Brad Pitt has the best chance of getting in, as rumors have speculated.

I'm pretty sure he's even expressed interest in the role several times.

I could see Eckhart as Cap but I seem to recall (EDIT: It may have been in an interview, probably in Empire,Total Film or Film Review, where he was asked about the possibility of playing Jim Gordon in BB) his opinion of comicbook movies isn't too high so I doubt he'd go for it.

Spielberg would be fantastic for this.
Also, it has to be set during WW2.

Here's something I wrote a long while ago, let me know what you guys think...

Ok, this is my idea for the Intro of the movie...

Setting: 1944, some God-forsaken European field, muddy and dirty.

You see lots and lots of soldiers going for cover, as they're being attacked by an unseen menace.

Bullets flying around everywhere, kind of like at the beginning of SPR, only worse!

Soldiers have nothing to protect themselves so they're constantly going down, looking for cover or hiding behind tanks.

You focus on a certain group of soldiers hiding behind the rests of a tank and the superior is yelling like a madman, using that telephone/backpack thing... "WE'RE BEING SLAUGHTERED!" and stuff like that.

Suddenly, amongst all that chaos, you see a figure running at full speed, right in front of that group of soldiers behind the tank.

You don't actually get to see it clearly, it's just a blur, as the camera would be fixed on those soliders.

One of them goes bananas and screams "SARGE! SARGE! LOOK AT THAT!" or something and the Sarge goes like "What the hell do you wa...." and then he sees "him".....

He goes "KEEP FIGHTING! KEEP FIGHTING, MEN!", and everyone around listens, and the tanks start moving forward! The Sarge makes some hand gestures at some other superiors around the field, and everyone starts moving....

Then you get to see a shot of a pair of millitary boots running at full speed (you get to see a little blue above them), and at the same time you keep hearing bullets and lots of "CLANG!" noises.

Then you get to see a shot of the back of this person while running at full speed, and you get to see a little more detail....

He has a millitary backpacb, and his clothes are muddy as hell, but you realize they're blue.....

You get to see a REALLY FAST shot of him from the front, but it's more like a blur, because he lifts this shield to protect himself (muddy and dirty, but you recognize the shield) and again, you barely get to see him....

Then we continue to the sideways shot (you get to see his feet running), and then the camera pans out and you see this HUGE Nazi mechanical tank with machine guns everywhere, like a 100 yards from him.

All of this time, he's running AT FULL SPEED, so he gets closer and closer to this thing. And there's no music, so you only get to hear this person panting.

The idea is that as the camera pans out, you get to see a full shot of him and the bottom of this huge tank, but by now he starts to look really small, because the camera pans out, and the image starts to fade away, and as it's fading away, you the the little figure jumping and climbing this machine, and then, the image fades out...

This scene would last about 15-20 minutes....

Then you see "A few years back..." or whatever, and you get to see the origin.

After dedicating some time to the origin (30-45 minutes), you return to the tank battle and the rest of the movie, which would have to deal with the battle against Red Skull.

Captain America has been in development for a long, long time. Marvel sent a script to Tom Cruise back in 2001.

The question is, will Cap make it into production before the superhero boom is over? I wonder.

I think Cap has more cinematic potential than most superheroes. The Lee and Kirby tales would (and could) have made great James Bond style movies in the 60's, with Nick Fury and the Red Skull and so on. And the Fourth Sleeper animated by Ray Harryhausen.....imagine....

Even in the 1991 movie, as bad as it was, demonstrated that Cap deserve to be done properly on the big screen.

You did not do well on the reading comprehension section of the SATs did you??

Note how sentences influence how something is read "

Sentence one (seperate thought): "Frankly I would much rather they float the major properties out for a while instead of given them to the first guy who comes allong."

Sentence two: X3, Punisher, and Fantastic Four were given to subpar talent IMO, and the movies (all of them) were so far afield of the comic it bordered on ridiculous.

So really the sentence says X3, Punisher and FF were given to subpar talent, not the first guy who came along. furthermore the sentence says "guy" not director. That could mean the Production staff (FOX - who was the first), writers (Kinberg and Penn - also the first) or actors.

Of course they could, but that wasnt your original point, its ok to admit you were wrong, it doesnt make you any less of a cool guy in my eyes.

I can definitely see this guy! Look at that square jaw!! Can he act?

I hope Paul Walker isn't cast, along with everyone I've seen on this thread.

[Aaron Eckhardt - he's a respected actor. I doubt he'll do this film. No offense to any Cap fans.]

Let's just hope that the story's acceptable first.

I want to see an interview with David Self to see what exactly his approach to Captain America is. Will it be set entirely during WWII? Or will it be a man out of time story? Avi Arad has mentioned that latter when talking about the film.
