🇺🇸 Fell Out of a Coconut Tree, It's Kamalot: The Kamala Harris Thread

US News
Vice President Kamala Harris: "I am proud to announce that I’ve asked @walzforgovernor to be my running mate.

One of the things that stood out to me about Tim is how his convictions on fighting for middle class families run deep. It’s personal.

He grew up in a small town in Nebraska, spending summers working on his family’s farm. His father died of cancer when he was 19, and his family relied on Social Security survivor benefit checks to make ends meet. At 17, he enlisted in the National Guard, serving for 24 years. He used his GI Bill benefits to go to college, and become a teacher. He served as both the football coach and the advisor of the Gay-Straight Alliance.

I share this background both because it’s impressive in its own right, and because you see in no uncertain terms how it informs his record. He worked with Republicans to pass infrastructure investments. He cut taxes for working families. He passed a law to provide paid family and medical leave to Minnesotan families.

He made Minnesota the first state in the country to pass a law providing constitutional abortion protections after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, and as an avid hunter, he passed a bill requiring universal background checks for gun purchases.

But what impressed me most about Tim is his deep commitment to his family: Gwen, Gus, and Hope. Doug and I look forward to working with him and Gwen to build an administration that reflects our shared values.

Whether you are a supporter, a volunteer, a donor, a member of our staff, or your name is on the ticket: you are part of the people-powered campaign that is going to defeat Donald Trump.

We are going to build a great partnership. We are going to build a great team. We are going to win this election.

So let’s get to work. Join our campaign at the link in my bio."

You can’t gerrymander a statewide election. He won reelection in 2018 and that anti gerrymandering amendment will draw out base Dems in addition to it being a presidential year in 2024.
I would agree, but Vance won a statewide election where the voting map here had been re-drawn but senate and house controlled republicans, it was taken to court and found unconstitutional by the states supreme court on 3 seperate occasions, until the left leaning justices lost their reelections and conservative justices took over and magically said the maps were ok and dismissed the case, Vance was the weakest candidate running for office here in Ohio yet won all of the rural votes as rural ohio always votes republican, Vance lost in every major city in Ohio but still beat a 16 time congressman in Tim Ryan.

OH is the kind of state, I think Walz will help in and you can add NC to that list. I know you are more sanguine about the Dems chances in NC than I am, but I think it's possible to win there and here's the thing, IF you can take NC, you force Trump to win in PA, GA, AZ, and NV. THAT, my friend is a very tough road. Another scenario would be that if the Dems can take both PA and NC, they could lose MI or WI and still win whether or not Trump sweeps GA, AZ, and NV. that's how the numbers play out.

A win in NC (or GA) would virtually lock up the election. Those are monster states. NC is rather ignored when we talk about swing states, but it's every bit as important as the three rust belt states and more important than AZ or NV. It's probably just a "little" bit redder than the latter two, but with that nut job running for governor, winning NC isn't out of the question. The governor is a Dem, so why not?

The guy is a likeable, terrific communicator and I can't wait to hear him debate Vance; if Vance is willing to stand on the same stage as him. My guess is Vance will take a page out of the Trump playbook and want to line up right wing media setting that'll lob him softball questions.

We'll see.....
This is what I keep returning to, Vance and Walz side-by-side would be about a picture-perfect look at the choice Americans have this November:

On the left, a normal midwestern dad who wants to feed children, and on the right, a hobgoblin freak propped up by billionaires who want to track your periods.

America under Harris and Walz:

Not to mention having signed bills legalizing marijuana and implementing universal background checks/red flag laws for gun purchases.

Both VERY unpopular positions; especially with young people. :o

So many Minnesotans lamenting losing him. :(

Yamiche Alcindor sources: What Harris is looking for in VP nominee (MSNBC video)
- Chemistry and personal rapport
- Governing and executive experience
- Ready on Day 1: up and running for ticket quickly
- Wants Biden voters to stick to ticket: older voters, older white voters, middle age white men
- Put people at ease on her record and identity particularly for moderate Republicans
- "Bulldog" defense and attack dog to defend the Harris record/identity
- Loyal and comfortable taking the lead from a woman

WHY TIM WALZ?

Per source close to VP selection process on what
@KamalaHarris
sees in him:

• Executive experience with a record on core goals: child tax credit, paid leave, gun safety, junk fees, abortion

• Appealing bio in key Midwest states: veteran, football coach, hunter, gun owner, won a Trump district

• Effective messenger vs. Trump-Vance (see: “weird”)

• Personal rapport & her confidence in him as a governing partner

I can understand, he has done so much for the people of Minnesota, if he and Harris win, he will be tough to replace, but he can do so much good as Vice President for more than Minnesota
You know he'll tie break towards the progressive legislation like legal weed, universal healthcare, tuition free college, responsible gun ownership, and child tax credit.

This rules. I just think it's a great decision, and it's so gratifying to see that Kamala's first big move is something that instills confidence in her decision-making amongst a lot of her supporters. Walz just felt like the right one for a lot of reasons. MN is a solid blue state and I think America really needs someone with his capability, track record, communication style and character right now on the national stage. I love that both Harris and Walz feel like kryptonite to MAGA, but in very different ways. They have no coherent line of attack whatsoever.

Can't wait for his debate with Vance. Should be a weird one! :funny:

Thank goodness there's a recent poll that has Kamala up in PA. It probably solidified Walz as the choice.

Feeling real good about this VP pick, Kamala's instincts and her chances to save America right now.

Hopefully she gets a Walz bump AND a convention bump. :ali:

Trump won't even debate Kamala unless it's a safe space. Chances are JD will stand with Dementia Don in solidarity until he caves.
