🇺🇸 Fell Out of a Coconut Tree, It's Kamalot: The Kamala Harris Thread

US News
I get that. But that was all on Biden. He just needed to endorse, and he did. And even then, Biden had to go. Because he was definitely going to lose. I feel like that's the most underrated aspect. Biden was doing terribly, and was only going to get worse. While people were treating him like he was the only one who could win, he was dragging others down in battleground states.

As Harris shows, you didn't need much to do better. She's his VP and doesn't even have his stink.
I very much think it was the reverse of the Humphrey in 68 situation. What was dragging down the incumbent was not his policies or record this time (at least minus Gaza), but just the person himself. The fact that Biden was economically more progressive than expected was along with the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade, one of the big reasons why there wasn't a big red wave in the 2022 midterms. You remove Biden the person from the equation and neither Harris nor the administration is that tainted.

I completely agree. Biden's policy was not the issue here. But the nation did not want a rematch between the two dinosaurs. By default Trump looked better because Biden couldn't keep it together. He just came off really, really old. Which made it very difficult for him to even defend his policies or project hope. And well, Biden sure as hell wasn't going to fight the Republican.

They were given the escape hatch and now they seem plenty happy with taking it.

Houses are for the middle class and up but poor/young people got to live independently somewhere too else you’re stuck with multiple families or adult children in one house, that’s why multiunit / apartments are necessary.

Anyway any of this is gonna be fought by NIMBY ****heads and their politicians both locally and nationally just like in the UK.

To be fair, I think a lot of people who were worried about Biden stepping down was seeing a complete ****show in getting to the new nominee. I really don't think anyone expected the Dems to coalesce so completely and uniformily behind Harris. Frankly, I am glad to be wrong.

100% how I feel. Dems are not exactly known for unity these days. I think anyone can agree though that the speed at which they coalesced around Harris and the "vibe shift" is something kind of unprecedented-- and welcome for sure! But I think the way this has gone exceeded the hopes of even people who were calling for Biden to drop.

I can't think of a time I've been this happy and grateful to have been wrong. :-)

Though I do think it's become pretty clear that Biden endorsing Harris on his way down was a checkmate against Obama/Pelosi/Schumer/donors etc. who wanted a whole new ticket. I think there will likely be books written about the palace intrigue of this whole chapter.

We may have to look into making private apartments a thing. Like the actual units are owned by the tenant and not just rented. What would we call them?

The other concern is that house sellers will just jack up prices like electric vehicle sellers did knowing a government subsidy has entered the market. The best thing to do is having affordable adequate or too much supply to put downward pressure on pricing. So I think new building and construction is more important than subsidies which can be inflationary.

Subsidies can take many forms and you could also make pricing that is out of the norm ineligible for such subsidies. I haven't thought this through and probably wouldn't do that great of a job if I did, but there are people who can figure this stuff out.

Also, NIMBY's fight against multi family housing.

I do hope Harris still has the number of the guy who did fly swatters from 2020. Looks like a good time to bring it back..

Anybody know how to post Instagram posts? It’s not working for me for some reason.
