Obviously, they have some rough idea on what's going on with Boba Fett. Something will happen with him down the line. Whether it's his own pre-Empire solo movie, a bounty hunter movie or something in a TV show, they know what's going to happen with him at some point. And they know if he's alive or dead. They just don't want to say yet. They are just waiting for that big event to actually do it.
Look, it was the same thing with the Legends characters. A lot of fans got so angry and ticked off that some beloved characters went away, and then Thrawn is back in Rebels. Disney and Lucasfilm knew they were going to be using Thrawn in Rebels. They knew they were going to do a new revised canon book and reintroduce Thrawn.
Same thing with Fett. I'm not saying Fett's definitively alive, but Disney and Lucasfilm obviously have big plans for him due to his popularity alone. I think they are just waiting for the right project to come along, and then it will be an over-saturation of Fett. People will be porking out on Fett. It will be Fett-mania.
Once again, we can thank Josh Trank though for all the delays.
Now if we are being honest, I hate what Lucas did with the Fetts in Attack of the Clones. Did we really need to see kid Boba Fett? Was it really necessary to make Jango Fett the clone template? C'mon.
All we know now is that some Tatooine sheriff named Cobb has acquired what was for all intents and purposes Boba Fett's armor salvaged by the jawas after Return of the Jedi. Now that makes me think somehow Fett made it out alive considering the sarlacc is supposed to digest you for hundreds of years. But then why would he abandon the armor, especially if the armor was still a full set in working condition?
But I will be annoyed if it's a matter of Boba Fett being a mantle that gets passed around. I always just liked the idea that Boba Fett was just a highly competent bounty hunter doing his thing. I always saw him as a Clint Eastwood man with no name type. He's really not serving anyone except his own pocket book.
