Reading about David Fincher's new HBO series about the music video industry in the 1980s, and Vulture's ranking of all Fincher's videos had me interested in checking out some videos from film directors, either before they hit it big or during.

Would've posted Vogue too, but there's a painting of breasts in there, and I'm not taking chances, but that's a goddamn work of art too.

That Madonna "Express Yourself" video is truly classic Fincher, imo.

[YT]oOg5VxrRTi0[/YT] Russell Mulcahy did both this mini masterpiece and the cult hit HIGHLANDER in the 80's.

[YT]aQs1Ynq0rlk[/YT] Would you believe that Sam Peckinpah directed this music video?

[YT]dsUXAEzaC3Q[/YT] Martin Scorcese directed the King Of Pop in this seminal work.

Fincher also did Madonna's "Vogue"

John Landis also worked with Jackson on perhaps THE GREATEST MUSIC VIDEO OF ALL TIME.

The White Stripes cover of Dusty Springfield's 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself' was directed by Sofia Coppola.

Kate Moss on dat pole...

Which is why he needs to direct a Metropolis remake.
He's always been my pick to do a remake of my favorite Lang film, M, but yeah, he'd be amazing for Metropolis too.

Francis Lawrence directed a lot of good music videos.

I think Brett Ratner also did well directing music videos for Mariah Carey.

Have you seen the music video for We Belong Together or Touch My Body? I'm not a fan of his directorial skills when it comes to films but music videos, I can deal with it.

Weezer's "Buddy Holly" remains one of the best applications of CGI.

Steve McQueen did the music video for Kanye West's "All Day," but it was not released online officially. I can't post the phone recorded version here because of the language. It's on Youtube though.

It's all one-take, with Kanye pretty much ambushing a camera. Feels very McQueen.

Spike Jonze directed "Only One" by Kanye
