At least in X2 during the confrontation outside the Drake home, Logan says he can't control his claws. If there is danger present, they just come out. Also, at the mansion invasion, Stryker seems able to control the claws (by saying 'nature') but that was never addressed. Am I wrong about that? Seems to me it's ridiculous for Logan not to be able to control his claws.

In X2 two of the producers split - one said Logan killed in the invasion, one said he didn't. In X3 when he tries to retrieve Jean from the mutant camp, seems to me he must at least kill the "Spike" guy. I'm all for Logan killing people in the movies.

Also, I can't add a link to show his picture but find a picture of young actor, Emile Hirsch. he's be a perfect young Wolverine.

Logan never says he can't control his claws. The police officer outside of the Drake home tells Logan to put the "knives" down... and Logan says he can't. The police officer mistakenly believes Logan's claws to be knives or weapons of some sort that can be removed from his hands. That said, Logan can control his claws.

...and Emile Hirsch could be a good choice for a young Wolverine. He can definitely act.

I need to check out that scene again. I've got the impression the claws come out, at times, on their own and that is one scene where they do. Why would Logan 'snikt' when, of course, it would be seen as a threat? Doesn't make sense. Also, Stryker does 'un-snikt' them in the mansion invasion. That didn't get pursued but it really bothered me.

Wolverine unsheathes his claws because he believes he may need them against the potential threat posed by law enforcement. Also, Stryker doesn't 'un-snikt' Wolverine's claws in the mansion. Wolverine voluntarily retracts them. The slow retraction of his claws is meant to show Wolverine's shift in focus.

way to nail it BMM, you're right on the money.

"nature" doesn't unsnikt the claws. logan did that because there was no need for them at that point. when stryker said nature it reffered that mutants are unnatural beings. he said: "logan, you havent changed a bit. me on the other hand... nature" meaning that he aged naturally whereas logan being a freak didn't.

apparently in the novel or something it says Stryker had a safeword for the claws, it just wasnt explained in the movie

Watch that scene again. Venomfan has got to be right. It seems clear to me it is Stryker controllong the claws.
