Finale Ratings In!!!

Ahh...sorry to burst everyone's bubble,

But the Smallville series finale had disappointing ratings.

While it did have better ratings than the previous episode, other episodes this season have had better ratings.

Had Tom worn the suit for even one second, and a promo shot of it had been released, the finale would probably have had the highest ratings of the series...but that didn't happen...
the series finale was not even the most watched episode of Season ten.
Sad indeed.

who really gives a crap about ratings? it's over folks... time to move on!

2.97 million viewers. That's pretty bad for a decade long show. This show is lucky it aired on the WB and CW. A major network would have dropped it a LONG time ago.

Bull****. Highest ratings in the series? Give me a break. There's no way that the last episode was gonna have Smallville get 8 million viewers again no matter what they did. That's the stupidest thing I ever heard.

Ratings where still pretty good for the show and the network/day/time. Plus when finals come in monday it will probably be over 3mill and then in few weeks when dvr/tivo figures will be over 4mill.

That's inaccurate. Most people who cared about whether or not he'd wear the suit tuned in to the show to see if he would in fact wear it at the end. If anything, showing a suit picture early may have in fact had the opposite effect. Why do you think TV/Movie studios try to guard spoilers with their lives?

Also keep in mind from an advertising perspective (I'm sure you know this, doing what you do, but others here obviously do not), the demo's are always more important than the overalls. SV regularly was in the Top 3 of all the "money" demos, 18-49 males, 18-35 adults, etc. Hence the reason most of the advertising was geared towards adult males with disposable income (cars, movies, high end electronics, etc.) This happened on all 4 of the different nights the show appeared. Guess where the Finale ranked?

^ I fit the demo and i watched a first run episode for the first time in a long time. The overall decrease in total viewers though has been happening for years and unforetunately because SV is on CW and not another major net 8 million for the finale on a Friday in May may not have been realistic in this day and age.

SV's decrease in viewership however was pretty much in line with what you generally see across the board as all Network TV has decreased in viewership over the last 5-7 years with the increase in DVR, online viewings, and mobile device downloads. Hence the reason those mediums are starting to get factored into ratings.

ya and the old ratings system is the so old and out of date.

There was an article I read last year when there was talk of a season 10 & it noted in the article that Smallville had an especally large DVR viewership. I think it was something like on top of their live ratings Smallville also had on average 50%-55% of their live viewership ontop with DVR added on top.

So for example if 3m watched an episode of Smallville a further 1.5m (or near enough) had recorded the episode on DVR meaning 4.5m watched the show.

As well as the fact that Smallville did quite well on itunes since episodes started going on sale there.

There was a reason The CW kept Smallville going for as long as it did, on a bigger network, it might have been cancelled sooner if it was pulling in the same sort of ratings/viewing figures in total.

it was almost two hours long so of course it probably didnt keep as much interest as a quick one hour episode and also yea they should have pomo'd the suit more
