After years of putting it off, I finally gave in and bought Spider-girl.

I almost feel a bit guilty as I read this, cause I'm having more fun reading this then I have had reading any 616 Spider-man comic in the past couple of years. The comic captures the essence and spirit of what "Spider-man" is all about through the eyes of his daughter. I collected the first two tpbs of the Amazing Spider-man girl and every single issues after that right up to issue 16 so I can get a caught up. I guess I'll have to order the issues of the original Spider-girl through the net cause Midtown comics didn't have them.

Anyway I'm hooked on the series. It's what a Spider-man comic should be. Anyone upset with OMD should really look into this series. This is how the Spider-man story should have continued. Peter and MJ together.

Also the action scenes are beautiful and May uses her powers perfectly. I haven't seen Spider-man throw down like this in years.

Well it bothers me a bit that Spider-girl is kicking more ass then 616 Spider-man has in years but whatever....

Pick up Spider-girl..It's an amazing read.

It is a great read... Congratulations on your very fine purchases.

All the Spider-Books are great reads at the moment. :word: :word: :word:

I'm seriously shocked at how much I'm loving this book.

I mean, over the years ASM has made a habit of disappointing me time and time again. I kind of felt that it was time for a bit of a change.

I'm just hooked on the title right now.

I think you might enjoy the original Spider-Girl series a little more then Amazing Spider-Girl. I don't why, but after reading both, I just like the original better. But who knows, you might have a different opinion on it. Anyway, good to see that you're catching on to the new craze after OMD/BND. :yay:

Seriously...

I'm still amazed. The action sequences, one liners, Peter and MJ together...Everything just fits together so well. I can't believe I missed out on this.

Has Tom Defalco written the entire series?

Yes, he has written the entire series of Spider-Girl so far. Also, I posted some pics from the original Spider-Girl comic in the Pete/MJ thread.

Spider-Girl has a way to go become as good as the original Spider-Girl but the April Issue looks really good.

I haven't read Spider-Girl yet, but I've heard alot of good things about it.

Anyone who is angry at the outcome of OMD should pick this book up... Hell, pick it up anyway. I'll admit that it might seem ironic for me to say this because I haven't picked the book up for a few issues, which was stupid of me as it was always an enjoyable read. I plan on picking up all the issues I missed though, and hopefully soon.

I remember buying a few issues of Spider-Girl years ago, and stopped. If people say it's good as it is, then perhaps I'll start again. Because I'm certainly not going back to 616 (Current stuff).

Yea pick it up.

In Amazing Spider-girl..I'm up to issue #15. It's been exciting from start to finish. I can't believe that I missed this title. This and USM are the only Spider-man titles out now that I honestly immerse myself in and love them completely.

Wish that the original Spider-girl series was collected in TPB instead of digest. ....Grrrr I hate digest. I seriously don't want to order every issue individually though...So not sure what I'm going to do.

Bottom Line though...Amazing Spider-girl is well, Amazing and I've heard that the original is even better.

any chance of spider-girl prose novels?
and it was hmmm

Hey TMOTB, just wondering, how comes you don't pick up USM as it's not 'the real,' Spider-Man, and yet pick up SG? That's an alternate reality thing too.

Heck, right now you could heavily argue that the 616 ASM isn't he 'real,' Spider-Man U anymore either... (Although I'm loving the 1st 2 parts of BND.)

Not an attack, I'm just totally not understanding you're logic:huh: It's all Spidey to me! And if it's good I'll buy it:cool:

Spider-Girl stems from an alternate future of what happened in current 616 Marvel time... though some would argue that point now... and I don't mind it because it's good... I hopped on board around issue#60 and it took some time to track down back issues, but at my age, that was quitea fun thing to do that I hadn't done in years. And the "Peter Parker" in Spider-Girl is an alternate futuristic version of the 616 Peter Parker, had things played out as they had in Spider-Girl.

Ultimate Spider-Man is a completely different bottle of wax where it plays on what happened in 616 with different twists and whatnot...I've been tempted over the years to read it, I skim through the books at the store, and it really just isn't for me... I didn't grow up with "this" Spider-Man, and I feel nothing for him.

And as for the validity of the current 616 Spider-Man? Of course he's real. His life had happened as it did, and then made some bad decisions to lead him to the events of OMD (which was a terrible storyline)... the events of OMD occured, leaving us with a slightly different world where his adventures continue. Did I like OMD? Of course not. But I AM digging BND.

Cool beans

Bah, this title really doesn't get the attention it deserves. I just don't get it. People are constantly complaining about ASM and all the decisions that Marvel is making, yet that book has people constantly talking about it. ASG on the other hand is supposedly a fan favorite and yet no one talks about it.

Anyway, just finished up reading #19. Mayday vs Arana was pretty bad ass. Seriously, I'm waiting and hoping for a supervillain or someone to come along an ax Gene Thompson. The man is annoying on almost every level possible.

He may be annoying, but he's part of the cast and the book is better because of his presence. I want all of Mayday's supporting cast to stick around.

I totally understand what you're saying, though. My introduction to the Spider-Girl world was through the first ASG trade. I couldn't believe she was dating an @$$ like Gene. There are so many better options out there for her . . . maybe Wes if you just want to look at those in high school. Heck, I'd take Felicity over her idiot brother. Scratch that. I'd definitely take Felicity over her idiot brother. :oldrazz:

Welcome back to GOOD Spidey-books!

Spider-Girl is a phenomenol read. It really captures the feeling of old school Spidey without feeling like a rehash of previous stories (coughBNDcough), and it isn't a modern retelling of the classis stories like in USM.

I just love this book...it's a shame it's selling so poorly.

Quick question...

In ASG #19 during the fight with Arana...Spider-girl magnetizes the floor. Um....huh? Didn't know she could do that. Was that always one of her powers or did she develop in sometime in the series? Is that the first time she's done something like that?

It's something she's always had. Mayday's powers are slightly different from Peter's, at least as far as wall-crawling goes. This is from her Wikipedia page (not the best source, but the only one I could find on short notice):

Spider-Girl can adhere to almost any surface through a bio-magnetic field her body generates, allowing her to scale the sides of a building, just like a spider. Wall-crawling doesn't come as naturally to May as Peter; she has to concentrate to keep herself from slipping off surfaces. In addition to adhering to surfaces, May can also repel herself like an opposing magnet, or she can repulse and adhere another object or person through a shared medium. For example, she can cause a person to stick to a wall they're touching just by touching that same wall and willing them to, or she can just as easily violently push them away.

I'm guessing she used that power, just with the floor instead of a wall.

Heh, what a freaking cliffhanger for issue #20. Damn, don't know why, but I had a huge geek out moment seeing that ending. Anyway, another fabulous issue. Seems like Peter is going to be getting more time to shine with this "Brand New May" storyline...
