I have noticed that comic artists occassionally reference fine art or classic art in the comics. I have posted some examples, I posted in the Marvel section since I found more Marvel examples. Go ahead and post your own pictures too.

there's a website that's been linked to before that shows like 3 dozen comic references to the Piata

Do you know the link to that website?

Yep, Pacheco's clearly an Escher fan. Or maybe a Labyrinth fan:

The last one could also be an homage to Roy Lichtenstein's style as seen in Alex Ross' Astro City cover above.

No. It is the Goblin King. Show some respect, or he'll steal your kid brother and then hit on you while mezmerizing you with his hypnotic buldge. :o

That Hulk cover reminded me of this one:

It's based off of Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are:

I forgot about that one, I liked that cover.

Heres more,

Eddie Hopper's Nighthawks

and I think there are more examples of this diner too.

It's been coppied so many times it's not even funny.

"Eddie" Hopper? You and he go way back, huh? ;)

The painting is called Nighthawks, by the way.

So you get hypnotized by bulges, huh? Now a lot of things about you are starting to make sense!

It's funny; David Bowie's music is probably less known than his package among this generation because of Labyrinth. :)

Not any buldge. Just David Bowie's. :o

I'd understand if it were the Goblin Queen....

I remember the Vitruvian also being referenced in the Spider-Man/Doctor Octopus: Year One story--with Spidey in the middle of it as well.

Thanks MaskedManJRK

The one I was thinking of was actualy the last page of the final issue--Otto's in a jail cell with one of the tentacles drawing Spider-Man in as the Vitruvian Man.
