Yes,i would say its a great thread to see how comics can sometimes draw from more realistic art.

I'm glad people like this thread.
See, it helps to know your art history.

"Hey mikey! he likes it!!" I like this thread a lot.

Thanks, I am glad you guys like it.

I found another example.

They even mention on the previous page how Rene Magritte's "Castle in the Pyranees" is Magneto's favorite painting.

And if you find one you can post it too.

Here's a sculpture from 1915 done by a german artist William Wauer. Look familiar?

Sorry, I am not sure if I do recognize it. Could you maybe give me a hint?

I also have a few more, osrt of.

Another Vitruvian Man
DiVincivitruvian4.jpg

here is a closer example of Lichtenstein, in style mostly
(blowing up comic pages to huge size so that the dots are big and easily seen.)
Lichtenstein0.jpg

Lichtenstein2.jpg

The Astro City cover by Alex Ross I posted earlier, that refferences Rockwell's Museum painting, also refferences Lichtenstein's style too.

and I was wrong earlier,
Alex Ross' Kingdom Come was not based on Rockwell's United Nations painting,
It was based on this one, Rockwell's The Right to Know
rockwellnations2therealrefference.jpg

kingdomcome.jpg

but it does look similar to Rockwell's United Nations (posted earlier)

Thats what I thought, but I wasn't sure. Cool.

Arrow Collar ad, I guess this counts.

Remember, if you have any examples of fine art used in comics you can post it too.

its not hard to see why comic artists look back and pay hommage to the masters. We are all students of the same great subject. Looking back gives you inspiration. For after all what are we if not the newest generation of pop artists standing at the feet of giants.
