Robert Rodriguez / Harry Knowles said:
Harry. We have something terribly exciting to talk about. Well, I know it’s especially exciting to you and me.

WHICH IS?

A project we’ve probably talked about since we first met. As you know, I had the honor and privilege to work with FRANK FRAZETTA on a special From Dusk til Dawn poster and you’ve always asked “when are you going to get the rights to Frank Frazetta’s FIRE and ICE?”

AND DID YOU?

Yep! The awesome Ralph Bakshi and I have been working it out for a while, and it’s now a TROUBLEMAKER STUDIOS PICTURE. What’s cool is, unlike past projects that I’d get involved with that would get stalled for various reasons, I control the rights to this one. So it’s actually in my power to set it up and get it made, which wasn’t the case on other projects. And for you filmmakers out there, that’s really the best way to get things done. If you can manage to get the rights yourself to a property by dealing directly with the artists and creators like I did with Frank Miller on SIN CITY, and now with Ralph Bakshi on FIRE and ICE, it makes a world of difference and you can get started sooner rather than never.

YOU VISITED FRAZETTA A FEW TIMES

Yes, and it was actually very sad that this deal closed right after Frank passed, I was so looking forward to calling him and saying “At long last, we’re finally making the movie, Frank!”

Frank was an awesome guy, I went to visit him at his house some years back and he showed me his museum. He walked me through and pointed out so many of his famous paintings, saying “I painted that in three days, I painted that in one day, that one over there in two days.” His wife Ellie was there to confirm that he wasn’t exaggerating. She was the one that had to ship them out with the paint still wet because Frank was pressing up against a deadline. To see what he was able to paint in record time was astounding. I’ve been inspired by his paintings since I was 10 years old back when I first saw those Bantam Books collections of his work at the local bookstore.

I think that’s why I was continually drawn to Machete over the years, I always thought of Machete as my version of Frazetta’s CONAN. In fact, I have a bronze of Machete on my desk which you’ve seen where Machete’s standing in a classic Frazetta’s CONAN pose. I also have Frazetta reproduction paintings hanging all over my house, I don’t think I’ve gone a day without seeing Frank’s work somewhere in my living space. He’s been so influential to artists and filmmakers, and yet we still haven’t seen a Frazetta world truly come to life in a live action film, so that’s what I’d want to do with the FIRE and ICE project.

DOES THIS MEAN WE'LL GET KNB FRAZETTA INSPIRED SUB-HUMANS AND PTERODACTYL RIDING BARBARIC WARRIORS?

Yes! You bet. It's that kind of Awesome.

SO WHO’S GOING TO BE TEEGRA?

Harry that’s the same question you’ve been asking for 12 years. At least now you know you’ll finally get an answer. Stay tuned.

Rodriguez is deadset on adapting some barbaric style characters isn't he?

Hopefully he'll do it this time. Also hope Conan does well so this will be fast tracked; loved fire and ice, I'd really like to see this.

It's been years since I've seen the original, but I have fond memories of that movie. Rodriguez is a great director. I really enjoy his work, and if anyone can do this movie justice, he can.

He needs to be more proactive on his projects because I'm still waiting for his 'Blade Runner esq' sci fi movie and his Madman (based on the surreal comic by Mike Allred) adaptation.

I'm kinda in a state of shock that Predators and Machete got made. haha.

Agreed, take on what you can produce within 3 years. Don't waste time and patience of fans and tie up the property right as he figures out what he can do.

I know it's typecasting and obvious, but if they can get Christina Hendricks as Teegra, that would work. I won't lie...Kim Kardashian already has the look, but her acting skills...gah.

This would be a great project for Rodriguez!! Hope it sees the light of day.

For Teegra I say Paz Vega. Kellan Luntz for Larn. Paul Bettany for Necron. Sly Stallone for Darkwolf!!

Oh I'm loving your casting choices apart from Lutz.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if Danny Trejo would end up playing Darkwolf...

^^ ...it's quite possible. Although, I'd prefer Trejo as Frazetta's "Jaguar God", if they get to make a film of that.:cwink:

Having watched the "Immortals" teaser trailer, I think Mickey Rourke could be an excellent choice for Darkwolf!! Plus, he's already worked with Rodriguez before("Sin City", "Once Upon A Time In Mexico"), so there's also that.

I wonder where Rodriguez is at with this project. I hope he does this one as soon as he's finished with the new Spy Kids movie.

Indeed. The new Conan film could turn out to be something he would probably have liked, as it clearly is going to have nods to his paintings(the poster, for one).

Well, it appears that we might finally get to hear more from "Fire and Ice", as Robert Rodriguez will present his upcoming Quick Draw Production films at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday. It is stated that he will show exclusive material from his latest top-secret project. Would that be Fire and Ice?

as much as I still admire Robert, he needs to work on his quality control.

Speaking of which....whatever happened to Rose McGowan as Red Sonja?

Great to see some homage to Frazetta and Bakshi, but if they're gonna live-action some Bakshi films, I'm hoping that American Pop is next on the agenda for Rodriguez or somebody else....

I think that project died when Robert Rodriguez and Rose McGowan broke up.

The funny thing is, when I saw this thread I thought "Is Robert Rodriguez going to make a big-screen adaptation of GRRM's A Song of Fire and Ice"? :o

With "Fire and Ice", I think Rodriguez's intention has more to do with doing something of Frank Frazetta-imagery than "remaking a Ralph Bakshi film". Rodriguez didn't get to do Conan nor Red Sonja, but now with "Fire and Ice" he can do that type of sword & sorcery.

As for remaking a Ralph Bakshi film, do "Wizards"!

Although it's done in the style of FF, it looks abit too clean for my liking.
His work always had a really rough quility to it.

After seeing the trailer for Spy Kids 4, Robert Rodriguez needs to quit. He hasn't had a good movie in a long time since like Sin City and that movie is questionably good at best.

I've never cared about his Spy Kids films, and I guess most of his films are the type you either love or hate. Still, Rodriguez has the capacity to deliver the goods on things he really puts time and effort on like "Sin City" and "Predators". I'm excited for his take on Fire and Ice!
