They could go in a completely different direction. Have Castle's Jack Bauer CIA daddy come in to recruit the two and then the show becomes Alias. However, she's probably gonna be reinstated by the first episode.

Mr Smith will turn up dead and 'Helo' will have left hints that both/either Kate or Castle were involved... hence getting them back into the precinct and ultimately revealing they were framed and somehow ending up with them back on the job (maybe the major insists without Castle asking him)

Doubt that will happen. She quit. How would she get re-instated so quickly? Unless they do a time jump. I don't think Gates will want her back that easily, plus she's also rid of Castle now that Kate's gone. So it's a two-for-one deal.

Yea but this kind of thing happens a lot. Season finale changes something but gets reverted back to status quo in some way start of next season. The dynamic of the show is Castle/Beckett solving crimes, highly doubt they'll change that. This is a basic network show.

I think that the PI route is the way to go, they said they wanted fun. With the way that the precinct currently is and the tension (Esposito and Ryan, Gates and Castle, Gates and Beckett) that's no place for fun.

Castle would love to be a PI so I think he's gonna jump at the chance.

Is it me or does Gates just not work at all as a character? I mean yea she's the tough no nonsense detective. But that's all she is, nothing else to it. Its like since Montgomery was the boss you got along with she just had to be the one you butted heads with. I also feel the actress doesn't really sell me.

Nope, not just you. Producers said Gates is there just as a stepping stone in her career, nothing more. I hope they change her next season, or at least do something useful with her

Great finale! I love the noir feel of the episodes involving Kate's mothers murder and this case was excellent both from a character standpoint and from a story standpoint, they have opened Pandora's box, or should I say Caskett! t:

It's going to be very interesting to see how the fallout is handled next season, not only because Beckett and Castle are starting their relationship on a clean slate, but now the people behind her Mom's death have removed the obstacle from killing her, and what about the team? it's in tatters with Beckett quitting and Espo and Ryan at odds.

Gates will be gone soon IMO, I think her part in this season became minimal when she simply didn't click with the cast, it's very hard to work someone into a tight nit cast that has the level of chemistry the Castle cast have.

Personally, I hope they kill the *****. Can't stand her character. It's like she doesn't connect at all with her unit.

Good finale. I thought they might've left Caskett for next season though and that they might end it with the team torn apart and Castle and Beckett seemingly done with each other so that everything seems unresolved until next year.

I don't know if the PI angle would work. It could change the nature of the show. I could be wrong though. I think it would take a few episodes for Beckett to be reinstated anyway. Maybe the major would pull a few strings. What if they brought back Roy Montgomery as a ghost? That would surely be better than Gates, who I agree doesn't gel with the rest of the cast and seems to have nothing to do.

Gates seemed to be an interesting character early on (the elvis episode was a nice look at her) but lately she's just been the '***** in charge' (that's generally how i've seen her portrayed by fans) which is a shame for PGJ as she's a better actress than for this role.

Anyone else feel sad for Ryan? poor guy was backed into a horrible corner by the events...

Wow! That was a good finale. I felt bad for Ryan having to make the choice between his friends/colleagues and following protocol. I also felt bad for Esposito for having to choose between his buddy Ryan and following the idiot detective that is Beckett. I'm only saying that from how she is presented in the show. She reads the situation wrong, blaming innocent suspects, in every episode and Castle has to bail her out.

The fight between Helo and Kate was freaking awesome! First, I love the way Tahmoh Pinikett moves like a Thai kick-boxing fighter. Second, I loved the way he barely pulled punches (literally) when Kate foolishly thought she had a chance of beating that guy. lol

I hated that Castle gave in to Kate when she came to him. It showed Kate for what she is, a selfish childish woman. She ignored and lied to Castle for over a year, ignoring her own feeling while she was "working it out" while sleeping with another guy. But when her life is threatened she is in touch with her feelings for Castle? No thank you!

To his credit Castle did try push her away but got caught in the moment and the carnal drive took over his senses. I can't fault him for that but I hope he kicks her out in the morning. lol Which I know won't happen.

What was the deal with the opening? The usual theme wasn't there and the colors were different.

I really don't like typing negative stuff but man this woman just makes me crazy and not in a good way.

As I've said before I used to love Kate in the first season but then something changed and now I'm a "Kater".

I know a number of rabid Castle fans who have looked up PTSD and have been able to attribute a lot of what Kate's done this season, behaviour-wise to the effects of PTSD....

Personally, i've thought they dragged out the whole secret reveal thing a few episodes too far.
