Hi guys,

Just interested to know how you would like your Batman movie served third time round. Nolan's tone in both films was clearly different, with the first being a movie with fewer plot lines, more focused on Bruce's psyche, and probably a little more stylized and fantastic (Batman hanging on to train).

The second was more political, grander in scale (with regards to the amount of people involved) and arguably more realistic (Climax sees Batman fighting SWAT).

Honestly, I preferred the first approach, but to each his own. What tone and elements would you like emphasized in the third outing? Sci-fi? Horror? Emphasis on the Bat family? Bruce's detective skills? Maybe a less plausible villian like Mr. Freeze?

No it didn't. It was Batman fighting Joker, and then a confrontation with Two-Face.

Yeah, except for Bruce's "detective skills" none of that will happen.

mmm, I don't post much here, but it's always nice to see that the boards are still as friendly as always. ;)

Anyway, the SWAT confrontation may not have been the climax, but it was the action high-point of the third act. Can we at least agree on that?

As for the second reply, I don't see why sci-fi or horror is impossible in Nolan's Batworld. And alright, so maybe Mr. Freeze was a bad example, but he did include Ra's al Ghul in his world, albeit 'Nolanized'.

I'd agree if Batman and Joker stood around talking.

But they didn't, and Joker actually was more trouble for Batman than a whole group of SWAT and Joker thugs.

Which not only goes to say about Batman's skill sets, but Joker's as well.

Because Nolan has established a tone already in these movies, neither of them speak to horror or sci-fi like a Michael Myers movie or Star Trek.

It's Superhero Crime Drama. And it should stay that way. Anything else would be incredibly jarring(at least in this trilogy, right now I don't care what the next director will do).

And Nolan's already gone on record as saying Mr. Freeze will not be in this movie. Which can rule out most of the heavy hitters like mr. freeze. I.e. Clayface, Man-Bat, etc.

I can't Get Batman Begins to fit inside Blade Runner. I've used a calculator, a chainsaw, and some lube. Am I missing something?

It was just an influence that Nolan used. He even made everybody watch Blade Runner before they started Begins, and said something to the effect of "this is what I want with Batman".:cwink:

Hmm, never heard that before. Thanks, bud.

Nolan used the 1982 cult science fiction film Blade Runner as a source of inspiration for Batman Begins. He screened Blade Runner to cinematographer Wally Pfister and two others to show the attitude and style that he wanted to draw from the film. Nolan described the film's world as "an interesting lesson on the technique of exploring and describing a credible universe that doesn't appear to have any boundaries", a lesson that he applied to the production of Batman Begins.

It's mainly with how the Narrows looked, it looks as if it came right out of the LA from Blade Runner. There's also some smaller, incidental stuff like Rutger Hauer being in the film and the romantic interest being named Rachel.

Thanks guys. I could've saved myself some lube.

I can see it in The Narrows. I can see it in the dirty streets. I don't know how I didn't see it before. I love it more now.

I thought this thread would be an open goal for silly gags. Why has no one suggested "Vampires Suck" or "Sex and the City 2"?

You disappoint me.

Comic book / crime drama / horror.

Perfect combination in my book.

TDK had some strong influences from the horror genre as it is currently understood. The Joker's "interrogation" of the fake Batman felt deeply uncomfortable for that reason.

I suppose TDKR might be a redemption story- the gunslinger's last bounty.

TheBatman072 is incapable of being pleasant. Please don't think its representative of the majority of posters. Great thread by the way.

It's so hard to know, as all we can do is speculate. We've seen ice-capped mountains, filthy slums, well-lit office buildings, caves, hospitals, asylums, yachts, opera-houses, docks, piers, clubs, banks, penthouses, mansions, and cutting-edge city blocks. What haven't we seen yet that has some relevance in the comics? Graveyards? Religious iconography? Maybe the tone will hint at some classic thrillers. I'd hoped they'd start shooting earlier in the year, as March in the Midwest is still very cold and the trees are still dormant. I would have liked to have seen a colder, more wintery look in some of the exterior shots.

Naturally. That was indeed the action crescendo.

Watch out for obnoxious, contrarian film school students on here Ohms. They're self important, extremely un-intuitive and like to throw their imaginary weight around. All a pat of growing up really.

Well that's just plain not true.

:woot:

Yeah, its only a handful of posters, but they can really put a damper on my enthusiasm the way they think a condescending tone and negative vibe is more important than the thoughts behind their posts.

I'd say he seems like an adult, by the way he engages others with respect and can be humorous without belittling others. Not a huge deal, but your response to the OP was kind of rude and not even an attempt at answering his questions. That's how you always are, so carry on with your bad self. I mean, you're a Batman fan, so you're cool in my book, but I don't think I could ever hang out with you.

I think I answered his questions succinctly. Based on the two movies we've gotten from Nolan beforehand.

I offered more explanation in later posts.

Just because I didn't include 10 lols and a hundred smileys doesn't mean I'm sitting here frothing at the mouth. What you attribute to my posts can't be helped by anyone but you.

lol, well, if it's any consolation, there was no offense taken. I went through this right from Spider-man 1 :wow:

In fact, I think I almost miss it. (The only reason I stopped coming on the boards was coz too much ruins the movie experience).

I'll give you that BB was inspired by Blade Runner from the color hues to the front end design of the Tumbler which was ripped off the Spinners.

But I think its a stretch to say that tonally TDK was inspired by Heat when the only real scene that had shades of Heat in it was the intro/bank heist which lasted 6 minutes of a 140 minute film.

Straight on with the 'gunslinger' theme Reg. Good call.

And quite quick on the draw yourself, if I do say.
