Does anyone else beside me think health food and gym memberships should all be free, or at least as cheap as a Big Mac. If that were true we'd take a huge chunk of people out of the equation that need health benefits. Instead of spending a ton of money to cure the sick, why not spend a little and prevent the sick?

The thing about Health Food and Gym Memberships: I totally agree that the pricing is ridiculas, But I don't work out in a Gym, Nature is the best gym. Push ups, sit ups, pull ups, running. That is all you need to be fit. People can cook for themselves. Its far cheaper to cook for yourself anyway. Working out at a gym and eating out are luxarys, and private businesses, therefore for them to be "free" that would mean either the Business would close down, or Government would have to subsidize it, which means that they would have to collect more taxes to do it.

Agreed, I not going to say that Bush is the best president we've ever had, he was the best choice at the time, But he did grow government and didn't stick to his Conservative Promises he made.

If nature is the best gym, I feel sorry to all those Americans living in cities. I live in a tiny apartment. Push ups is about all I can do. Sure I can run, but I have to weave in and out of traffic. I can't do any cardio in my apartment, since I have people below me. Pull ups? Where can I install a pull up bar in my apartment? Yes, people can cook themselves. But first they have to know how to cook something besides Hamburger Helper. You think the average American knows how to cook a healthy dinner? Yes, the government should subsidize it. Like I said, it is cheaper than everyone's dream of subsidizing health care.

Yes, people can cook, I think most people are too lazy though. That might be true that it would be cheaper than subsidizing healthcare, but what if that was Step#1, 15 year later, they get to step#2: Taxing fat people, 5 years later Step #3 Provide Health Care to these people only, 2 years later Step #4 Provide Health Care for those people over there. I would like the Goverment out of my life as much as possilble.

I wouldn't however be against the idea of the Government setting up something like the Post Office for Gyms. Hmm... think of it as a Federal Health Club, they have to collect money from only people that use their services, but don't tax people for not using it. What do you think?

I'd be willing to bet frozen pizzas, Stouffer's boxed meals, and processed frozen meats and veggies that can all be popped in a microwave far outweigh the sales of raw, untainted, meats and veggies. Eating processed foods from the gorcery store is just as bad as eating fast food.

I do nearly every night. I buy Meats and Veggies and cook all the time, I only go out 1 or 2 times a month. But I don't do it for health reasons, only because it far cheaper and Service sucks where I live.

My way of thinking is, if I can do it, everyone can do it. They just chose not too. Just most people would rather bring home KFC or pop in something in the Microwave. That is why I said I believe most people are too lazy.

Taking care of one's self is a choice. Some People chose not to, other people chose to. I don't want to pay anymore money to the government so lazy people who could have chosen to eat healthy and make something themselves, rather than to sit on their asses and hope the Nanny State Government can take care of them. People need to learn personal responisiblity instead of being dependant on everyone else to do it for them.

^Aggreed. I've worked hard for years to get where I am, I fear that if I get a raise, I'm going to have to pay more taxes! Why should I even bother trying to be successful? I'll just sit back and let the Government take care of me! I too can be lazy and not make my own choices.

How are you being punished? And some people don't have time to make something healthy because they have to work three jobs in order to afford these high health insurance premiums that you seem to be addicted to.

If there were government subsidized health programs, such as gyms and health food stores, then it would be easier for more people to be healthy which in turn means less people who need health care which would lower the overall cost of health insurance, something 47 million Americans cannot afford. Or is it that they chose not too afford it?

Please, tell me how a National Sales Tax, and only a National Sales tax is going to hurt anyone. Especially when there would not be any other Federal Tax whatsoever. Please tell me where you as an individual worker gets 100% of your paycheck, and you pay taxes as you buy something (you therefore chose when you pay your taxes) is bad. Please tell me how, when everybody who comes into this country, lives in this country, works in this country, or visits this country and purchases anything pays into our Tax system is bad? Please tell me why would you rather work for the benifit of the government, where they dictact how much to take out of your paycheck, before you even get to see it? Uh, assuming revenue neutrality, people are still paying the same amount of money in taxes. Except because you've switched to the Stupid Tax, poorer people are now paying a much bigger share of their income in taxes than rich people, because -- get this! -- poor people necessarily have to spend a much larger share of their gross income in order to get by!

As I explained, most of the Super Wealthy in this country are because of two things, they have the time and money to bypass our tax laws with loopholes or they don't really have INCOME so they don't get taxed at all. Remember that there is a difference with INCOME and having money in your bank account. These Super Wealthy do not pay into our Tax system. So, they get a free pass. Drug dealer, Prostitutes, and people that work under the table do not pay into our tax system, why is it fair for these people to get away with that, where I have to pay 30% of MY income? Do I have to work hard, just to have 30% of my paycheck taken away from me before I even get to see it? How does our current Tax code NOT hurt the working class, please tell me! Because I want to know.

No really a national sales tax will make it magically impossible for rich people to bribe legislators into writing loopholes into the law for them. Because nothing says "straightforward, easily accountable standard" like a system that requires accounting for percentages of revenue from trillions of everyday transactions!

It's certainly not as though rich people can use corporations to circumvent a tax which is applied exactly once, at the retail-level of sale! No sir the rich people who have corporations shield their personal income will never be able to figure out how to have corporations shield their personal purchases!

Oh no but hey we'll sure be getting those drug-dealers and prostitutes - getting them new jobs as smugglers in the massive grey markets which the Stupid Tax is guaranteed to create! Thats what I was referring to....Illegals, people who get paid under the table or in cash only. I read an interview in Playboy about an escort in Vegas who charges $500 an hour to start and goes up from there, and since she works in cash only, she doesnt claim any of it.....So she makes almost 100,000 a year TAX FREE and in cash....

I don't know what you mean about me seeming to be addicted to anything, but essentially when you work hard at a job, you can get rewarded with a "raise". This "raise" is and increase in income. When you have an increase in income, with our current tax code, that will make you fall into what the "experts" call a tax bracket. The larger your income, the more money the Federal Government takes out of your paycheck. That is what I call punishment. Our tax code punishes someone for exceeding in life.

How is it that I can chose to work, eat healthy, and take care of myself. But there an excuse as to why others can't?

More than Likely they are working 3 jobs to pay for there cell phone, their expensive Resturaunt bills, their High Speed internet, their new clothes, their new car, their big screen tv, ect. Health Care comes last! You can do a Google search for Health Insurance. You can find something for $75 a month. That's a cell phone bill. I worked 2 jobs for 5 years straight. That is up to 75+ hours a week. I would only have 1 day off every 2 weeks. I did this until I got a job that I didn't have to do that anymore. And it looks good on my resume. Why is it that I can do these things and others have an excuse? Why do you want to give up your right to save your income? Why do you want to give the Government more of YOUR money? That is money YOU earned. Do you work for the government, or do they work FOR you?

Being poor is usually the main reason why someones diet isnt healthy.
Eating healthy is an expensive venture.

I'm sorry I have to disagree with you on this, I have been poor most my life and yet my Mom and Dad always had a healthy meal on the table. Rice is about as inexpensive as you can get, a package of chicken cutlets to feed a family of 5 is very do-able, vegetables and fruit by the bundle can last for quite some time. Pasta in supermarkets you can buy 10 boxes for $10. Even with a very strict income, as long as you balance your finances correctly, you can have a decent meal on the table 7 days a week 52 weeks a year.
