My flash drive has malfunctioned. Any way to recover the information that is on the flash drive?

Have you tried using it on a different computer? it might be just an error.

I tried it on a different computer. It works.

however it does not work on my computer anymore. how do I resolve this?

Details:

It says "one of the USB devices has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it"

It tells me to reconnect the device and I did, but Windows still does not recognize it.

It's located at the USB root hub.

Try restarting your PC and then try it?

maybe you need to redownload the driver files. they couldve been damaged

How do I do that?

Is this how I do it?

Go to control panel>administrative tools>computer management>device manager

In device manager, expand the "universal serial bus controllers" tree, and delete things from the bottom first, one by one, going upwards. Root hubs and then host controllers. Reboot, and windows will reinstall fresh copies from its driver cache.

Tried another USB port..?

I've got this drawing tablet that works in one of the usb ports on my laptop, but not another.

Try switching it around. :)

My flash drive works on another computer, just not the one I am using right now. Both USB ports on this one isn't working.

Dr. Evil,

Does Windows give any errors in the device manager, and what version of Windows are ya using?

Is it working on other ports, or is just that device? If you have another device, you can try that to see if the ports that are possible damaged, or something along those lines. Just need a little more info, that's all!

The ports are damaged, but I got it all taken care of. I have a new computer now.

Dr. Evil,

That's what I was thinking actually, but just in case I thought I would mention other possible solutions if you wanted. =)
