Beat me to it, I'm cautiously optimistic for De Ligt, but not keen on Mazraoui, he's nothing special and injury prone.
Im sure we were in for De Ligt when he left Ajax a few years back before he went to Juve but doesnt seem to have worked out for him at either Juve or Bayern, hopefully its works better for us. At least its another option and has got to be better than Lindelof or Maguire at least.

Cant say I know much or have seen Mazraoui even play so I will judge him on what we get I guess. At least if AWB is offloaded that helps pay for some of this.

Interested to see how Martinez does at LB today. This is what Arteta wanted him for when we wanted to sign him before United beat us to him.

Is Mazraoui a RB? I can see United’s first choice back line eventually end up being:

RB: Mazraoui
CB: Yoro
CB: de Ligt
LB: Martinez

…with Martinez doing the majority of the inverting. Looks good!

I Assume yes as we are letting AWB leave as a result of this double deal so I guess Mazzraoui is a direct replacement for him.

ITs a shame Yoro is out for so long now as it means either Maguire or Lindelof will have to play some games or Evans I forgot is staying as well so we have options, its just can we keep our first choices fit as this 4 looks decent on paper at least. Shaw as an option if he can get fit too is also good enough.

I've never agreed with this personally, is it legally accurate? Yes, but we aren't talking about the type of money situation where it's the difference between feeding your family and keeping the lights on, we're talking about the type of money where it's the difference between buying 2 Ferrari's or 3 this year. If they had any character they'd be wanting to be somewhere that wanted them and where they start every week, rather than being a bunch of greedy leeches who will sit on their arse all season just to collect extra money they don't need as they're already set for life with millions in the bank.

I generally think when clubs (or indeed any business) makes stupid financial decisions, they're the ones that should be punished financially, not the players/employees.

Even though you'd imagine the majority of them are well off, I'm sure they have financial commitments like everyone else, just on a higher scale. Not to mention legal costs for when you're driving without a license, while uninsured in your Ferrari or when you think you're Stone Cold Steve Austin in Greece Stone Cold Stunner'ing people left, right & centre. Those type of legal costs to keep you out of jail aren't cheap.

That should be the end of that, he's worth about half that.

Agreed, wouldn't go a penny over £20m for him & even that I think would probably be too much.

Needed this one to sure up the defense a bit, just hope he can stay fit.

Even though his career hasn't quite hit the heights he looked destined for since leaving Ajax, I think getting a player his age, with his experience, with still the potential to grow further for £38m (potentially £43m) is more than reasonable in today's market.

0-0 HT in the Charity Shield both sides are a bit makeshift and some rustyness around after the Euros but both have had their chances and Amad has looked a constant threat for us but nobody managed to convert yet.

1-0 United - Garnacho finally takes a chance for us, he is getting better every game.

1-1 Bernardo Silva nods in an equalizer in the last minutes.

Charity shield will go to pens. Been a decent display by us all be it against a City side with several key players missing. We do need a striker though its clear to see.

I didn’t have a clue the Charity Shield was on today. Good sign for Utd holding City till pens.

Nice one! I’ve wanted to see De Ligt in the PL for a while. Hopefully he has a good career here.

Yeah with a pre season friendly which this really is, you cant get too carried away in either direction but there was encouraging things and also some things that need improving, City will count themselves lucky we didnt see them off when we had the chances. Still the real test is next week when things kick off for real.

So going by the past few years. Whoever doesn’t win the Community Shield doesn’t go on to win the league and who doesn’t win the Shield does. And de Ligt has won a league title at every club he has gone too. Hmmmmmm...

City might not win the league this year but there is absolutely no way we are, we dont score nearly enough to get close to that, a top 4 race is the best we can hope for this season. Arsenal are the best placed to capitalize on any City slip up at the moment.

Decent game, both sides a bit sort of makeshift in parts but I thought we played reasonably well, particularly in the second half. Rashford & McTominay both missed absolute sitters, really should have been 2 or 3 goals up by the time City scored.

Back 4 handled game well, Haaland hardly had a sniff, their most dangerous player I thought was Bobb who looked a threat every time he picked up the ball. Casemiro played well, Amad & Mainoo both had some promising moments, Garnacho looked sharp when he calm off the bench, Rashford was alright, missed that sitter & had a couple of his usual brainless runs into about 3 or 4 bodies but overall was alright.

Overall despite losing on penalties, thought it was a promising performance. I'd expect us to get better once our new signings all get a kick.

Yeah, that's a shame. Maybe Mazraoui could bring the best out in Antony.

We ain't winning ****. I'm sure of it.

Well neither the manager or Antony can get the best out of Antony so hopefully somebody else can but the way Amad and Garnacho are playing I dont see Anotony getting into the side at the moment.

I can understand the frustration as coming 2nd several times and not being able to get over the line can make you wonder if its even possible but maybe City moving on a few might leave at least a small chink in the armor and they might drop a few more points this season. Hard to see it once Rodri, KDB, Silva and Haaland get up and running again full time but you never know, Arsenal just need to be ready to pounce should an opening occur.
