Football (Soccer)

At least he's only expected to be out for a couple of weeks this time.
Maybe it would be best for him just to retire at this point. He spends months out with injuries, returns gets like 70 minutes of gametime and then another month or two out. I feel for the guy but it's crazy to think our leftback options for the last few years have been Shaw and Malacia who have less than 10 games played combined between them or something.

Arsenal v United tonight then, should be a really good contest for both sides to see where they are at. Arsenal will be favourites I still think and be looking try and keep up with Liverpool if they want to get in a title race with them. United can see how far they need to go under the new management and direction with our toughest game since Amirom took charge.

Fast start in the Southampton v Chelsea game 1-1 after 10 minutes.

Everton 1-0 Wolves early on
City 1-0 up against Forest at home early as well.

Southampton 1-2 Chelsea after calamity at the back from the Saints, flowing goals in this game at the moment. Nkunku.

Chelsea 2-1 up now. Definitely not the Chelsea of early last season.

De Bruyne makes it 2-0 City, looks like they are on course for recovery win of some kind so far tonight.

3-1 Madueke makes it a two goal lead for Chelsea, look like scoring every time they come forward, Southampton all at sea at the back.

Newcastle take the lead against Liverpool 1-0

Everton go 2-0 up.

City could lessen the recent damage a bit today, but not if Liverpool pull out the win against Newcastle.

Chelsea looking like a solid bet for top 4 while Villa beating Brentford 2-0.

Newcastle back in front 2-1 Gordon.

Everton 3-0 Wolves
City 3-0 Forest

Liverpool 2-2 with Newcastle now.

Arsenal 0-0 United at HT, not a great game so far, hardly any shots on goal, both sides cancelling each other out a bit so far.

Liverpool now in the lead 3-2 great comeback for them.

Chelsea battering Southampton 5-1 now.

Newcastle 3-3 Liverpool crazy end to the game. Plenty of goals tonight.

Arsenal 1-0 Ti,ber from a corner

Arsenal 2-0 another corner that United cant deal with and its another easy finish.

Reality check for us tonight as Arsenal close the gap a bit of Liverpool who dropped points in the end but still not a bad result at Newcastle. City and Chelsea also get closer too with win and good wins for Villa and Everton.

Early reality check in the Amorim reign and there is much hard work ahead, even though I think it will eventually bear fruit.

Chelsea are slowly improving and could be right up there again next season.

City needed that result.

Another very entertaining Newcastle Liverpool match!

Ha, I just said the same.

Top 4 is going to be a tough ask this season to finish ahead of either Arsenal or Chelsea. The main thing for Amorim is to start building foundations to build on for next season while getting things up and running in this one asap.

It will hurt either way the Newcastle equaliser coming so late, but not the worst result for either team. This fixture is certainly capable of throwing up exciting matches.

Disappointing result, but the most positive thing was we didn't get endlessly carved open like a tin of baked beans, we were solid & looked difficult to break down for the vast majority of the match & it took Arsenal's oddball, but effective, set-piece routines to break us. They spoke about it on commentary but it's the delivery from those that was absolutely lethal & why having a good corner/free-kick taker in your team can be so effective.

The negatives were, we offered next to nothing going forward ourselves. Got a few good balls forward to break the initial press, but once we'd picked it up the team didn't move up quick enough to support the forwards which either led to us losing the ball or retaining it, but heading backwards.

Hard to believe but I'm actually somewhat happy with the overall performance simply because the recent experience of playing the better teams has seen us be absolutely battered & repeatedly carved open. If you want to win games, you need to be solid, once you get that sorted/stabilised, then you can start worrying about being more expansive.

Yesterday was one of those games I never expected more than 0 points from because we're in an early state of rebuild playing Arsenal away 5 years into Arteta's build and there's just a big difference between the teams at the moment. However I think we stood up pretty good for the most part. I'm annoyed by how brain dead yet effective Arsenal's corners are though. It seems like a tactic you would come up with in the under-14s, "have everyone stand in a lump far away and then just swarm towards goal when the ball comes in" but credit to them it works in every game.

I give it 12 months before we see every PL team do that kind of formation on corners.
