Football (Soccer)

Yeah seems a bit harsh on Dyche, not really sure what more he can do at Everton. Ok they are only a point off the bottom three at the moment but did anyone really expect them to be mid-table with their squad and money these days? His style of football probably doesnt help but he kept them up for a season or two which is result in itself these days. Missing out on Potter might have made them decide nows the time though, wonder who they have lined up, surely not Rooney :funny: :funny:

Yeah, Forest have the form where it’s hard to predict how far they can go. Without Liverpool I bet the odds would have narrowed a lot by now.

Can Mbeumo defend too? I’d love him at Newcastle too.

That first silverware one day will be an amazing time after never experiencing that (outside of winning the championship, which I still value a lot).

Yeah it would have been a lot closer at the bookies, sadly I don't think Forest will make a genuine contest out of it, I expect Liverpool will pull away.

Mbeumo works hard and tracks back, that's the key for a wingback, close the space and passing lanes when out if possession, so the wide CB can engage the attacking player.

How long has it been since Newcastle won a trophy mate?

Sean Dyche sacked.

I guess those string of home draws against big teams weren't enough.

Moyes back at Everton!

I kinda like it. Yeah on a surface level he might have his best behind him and I don't know if he's really an upgrade on Dyche. But I feel every season some of my love for football is being sucked out of the sport. We have constantly bad refereeing. Bad VAR decisions. Clubs are increasing ticket prices and treating fans more and more like cattle they are herding to the slaughter. It feels more and more cynical and the sport itself has also evolved more towards being system-centric where there's less room for the old football mavericks you idolized growing up and it's more about formations and playing it out from the back.

So in all of this to have Moyes back at Everton - the club he managed for a long time and was highly successful at feels pretty... good? Like I doubt Everton drastically improve under him but to have Moyes back at Everton leading them through their last games at Goodison Park and into a new era at their new stadium, it feels kinda fitting. Something about it feels nice, but I'm also a sucker for those romantic nostalgic things when someone returns to an old club.

It really wasn't harsh on Dyche. He did a good job last season but he is a poor poor manager who only has one game plan which goes out of the window when the opposition score.

He plays to no get beat rather than win, and played his mates over other better players in the squad. He is a Championship manager at best.

I think Dyche is that breed of manager to call when you're heavily against the odds, expecting to be relegated. He'll get you well organised, hard to beat but he's not the type I'd honestly not that type of manager that I'd expect to start to see progress in terms of as you say, playing more than simply not to get beat.

He did well to save Everton from relegation when he took over & he also did well last season considering the points deduction, I think Everton had one of the better defensive records also outside of the top 3 as well if I'm not mistaken.
But really you want to be seeing a bit of improvement & this season so far has been more of the same. I'm actually a little surprised they sacked him now because when you look at his last 5 games, even though they're winless, they've picked up good points against Arsenal, Chelsea & City.

Moyes is a great re-appointment IMO, knows the club & he does have a track record of being able to take struggling sides & improving them. I'm surprised it's taken Everton this long actually to get him back.

And that's the whole problem with Dyche, we didn't progress because he doesn't have a clue how. His comfort zone is fighting relegation. He did well to keep us up last season. Even though we went 14 games not winning once which at most other clubs would have seen him sacked. The season before he contributed to us nearly going down by playing his mate Michael Keane and we conceded goals for fun. Eventually after some media pressure he put Mina at CB instead and that's when we got the results to keep us up.

The guy has no plans B, he doesn't develop players, has no interest in blooding youngsters and his first priority in any game is a clean sheet.

Moyes will get us steady, he does progress teams given time and I wouldn't mind a couple of seasons of mid table mediocrity after the last few years.

One of the sweetest victories from recent memory.

Despite the referee's best efforts to hand Arsenal the tie for free, justice was ultimately served after his appalling performance. He wasn't aided by some of the "dark art" type behaviour from a couple of Arsenal players, but when you are so happy to blow your whistle at every single opportunity, you simply invite that sort of thing.

Arteta found it incredible how they didn't win & how they didn't get what they deserved, I'm afraid this was actually one of those rare occasions when you got exactly what you deserved.

Good character from the team, two games in a row which is a novelty, Arsenal controlled the ball for the majority of the game & probably should have created more than they did for the amount of the ball they had, however we did well to work hard without the ball, keep their shape & take their moments.

Maguire, de Ligt & Bayindir all had excellent games, I'd honestly start Bayindir over Onana in the next game after that performance. Not seen a great deal of him, but he deserves to be rewarded for playing so well today.

Another great result for us, all be it its only the 3rd round of the cup but to go to Arsenal and come away with a win on pens when down to 10 men, yeah didnt see that coming at any other points this season so you have to say well done on that one.

Arsenal are just a rung below where they have been the last couple of seasons but we have been many rungs below that so its a nice surprise and another result Amorim can hang his hat on, no matter what else happens this season. Leicester at home in the next round isnt the worst draw either.

Doesnt look a lot is happening this transfer window, more outs than ins in terms of rumors so Amorim has to work with what he has for now it seems and he has done wonders the last two games at least.

A bunch of outs are what's needed for Utd's long term revival, and will set Amorim up better for subsequent summers.

Arsenal aren't the same without Mr Consistency Saka on the right, and damn need a conventional striker.

Unusual Utd in the last couple of games showing character rather than moments bailing out terrible performances. Could be a sign of progress finally, even though likely many more big bumps in the road ahead.

I think most here know how I feel about the manager. I'm just going to enjoy the ride and the chaos now. We're done and nothing is changing anytime soon. Disgraceful!

It doesn't seem like you're alone, the pressure is creeping up, albeit slowly, on Arteta to deliver silverware.

Even though the importance of the League & FA Cup gets downplayed sometimes in comparison to the Premier League/Europe. They're still trophies & had Arteta picked up a couple of those, while at the same time going close to winning the PL the last few years, I think he wouldn't face the same ever growing grumbles.

Still have the Premier League & Champions League to fight for though but obviously both are increasingly tough given current point deficit in the PL & obviously the CL has strong opposition.

Yeah, the PL & CL are very hard trophies to win but any of the big 6/7/8 have a decent chance in the domestic cups on their day. City in their dominant period never undervalued the league cup and success breeds success.

Spot on. When Jose first came to Chelsea and Pep came into City they put great emphasis on the importance of winning cups like the League and FA cup's. Reason being, bar the obvious of picking up a trophy, it helped build a winning mentality and gave their teams and players the belief they can get over the line. Seeing as Arteta is so inspired by Pep, it's a shame he didn't take this page out of his book. When he first came into Arsenal, he was so arrogant that he said he wants to win the PL and CL within 3 years, going straight for the big boy trophies. 5 years on and 7 to 8 hundred million spent and we still haven't picked up neither, nor anything else, bar that one FA Cup. I don't count Community Shields, although Arteta does. :funny:
