Hey all,

This is a question for all of you who DIDN'T like SR when you saw it in the theaters.

Now that it is out on DVD, will any of you guys and gals watch again.....to give it a second chance?

Seen it twice and did not like it again. Watched it half way the 2nd time around as it was so boring. No I will not be buying DVD.

Probably not.

*Maybe* when it's on pay-per-view, but will not buy the dvd nor will rent it.

(ppv for free)

I had a copy of the pirated dvd and I couldn't even bring myself to watch that..

I'll watch it again, although I didn't hate the movie in the least, I'll give it a second chance to impress me, hell I was pretty damn dismissive of Batman Begins and Pirates of the Carribean 1 when I saw them in theaters. Now I freakin love Pirates and really like Batman Begins after seeing them on DVD.

I tried. I put it in. I started watching it, and then I found myuself fast forwarding through it and watched the plane scene and then the new krypton rising, and then I stpped it and put the donner cut back in.

A big part of me wants to buy the ultimate collection (When it's fixed) just for completism and all of the extras over all 5 movies. But I don't know if I could watc it again, as I started off enjoying the first hour, then it turned into something I didn't cae for slowly, until I no longer had the will to watch the last 45 minutes or so. If I had gone in and was dead against it before seeing it, then I would be able to watch it again, because I might get a different look at it, but having the still fresh memory of sowly turning against the film I still feel slightly embittered by the experience!......

I don't have any plans to rent SR, though I wouldn't mind seeing the spectacular plane/shuttle saving sequence again. That was pure gold!
If ever I did rent it, I doubt very much that I could sit through it. I was pretty pissed in the theater as I watched Superman Returns devolve minute by painful minute.

I can't imagine ever watching it again.

I watched the making of supplement DVD and it looks like they dated Mingenhacks part on the suit. In it she states something like "I don't care of comic book fans don't liek the size of the S, or the boots, or the size of the shorts..." and goes about listing all of the complaints that came up from fans when the suit first came out. This video is supposedly before the suit pic had been released, but she lists every complaint we had so I am thinking this was shot after, and it is her little thing to say "FU" to us. An "I made this suit my way. I don't care what the fans say" thing. I bet my bottom dollar the put on an earlier date for all the flack she took. And rightlyu so. That suit so sucks....

I bought the dvd and man do I hate myself! This was a waste of $20! I hated it in theaters but tried to give it a chance, but I don't see how anyone can say this was the superhero movie of the year! This is the new Hulk movie!

I intend to watch it again, take some notes, and then attempt to see if I can recut it into a more enjoyable experience, similar to what was done with Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace and The Phantom Edit.

For example, the major thing I want to tackle is to try to give Lex a far more menacing presence in the film. That includes cutting out most of the camp which drags down Spacey, as well as a slight alteration of his “master plan” in the movie. I’m hoping to completely remove the rehashed “Land Scheme” plotline which IMO was one of the most terrible decisions made for the film, especially since the land it created was hardly a habitable place.
In my intended recut it has absolutely nothing to do with a land scheme at all. Lex’s plan from the beginning is completely centric around his obsession with defeating Superman. His goal is entirely about creating the ultimate target to make superman leap in head first, and to create an environment where he can rob Superman of his “godhood”, and face him as a man, as well as to serve as a kind of perverse monument to his victory over the man of Steel.

Unfortuantly, you can't return it to the store because of the copyright law. Try selling it at a yard sale.

The actors were not the problem in the movie. Spacey was excellent, Routh was ok even though he barely spoke, and Kate was ok. The movie was just......boring. I'd cast the same characters(even though I think Welling is this generations Superman) with a better movie with more action.

she never said she didn't care... this was her exact speech on that subject:

You can't please everyone, and I think that there will be people who are real superhero fans who will not like the size of the :super:, and they won't like the size of the trunks, and they won't like the cape (how long it is), or how, you know I mean... there'll be I'm sure a million criticisms of this costume. At some point you'll have to deal with the body you were given... we've must of tried 20 different styles... and, and, this was what looked best on him, so you just have to think about making your Superman the best Superman he can be.

and I believe she said this before the first promo pic even came out, because they talked about how careful they had to be with the suit since no one had seen it yet, so she knew beforehand that she was putting herself in the lion's den to begin with...

I wont buy it, so unless someone else buys it for me for Xmas, I'm fully content with waiting until it comes out on cable and I need a good laugh

Ahh. Okay. Well it just seems that she metions to much about the thing that we criticized when the pic came out. I think it seems to convenient and I bet that was shot after the suit was released and teh criticism started. It is eashy to say on video "it is this day in timeline" and it not be that day. It just seems to fishy.

Oh and what is worse is the CGI Supes. In some shots it looks really bad. One of them is him flying up to the clouds and above to recharge. It starts out with him close to the camera flying up, and it just looks really, really bad.

well, when you look at it, that's what she really changed on the suit... the cape length, the trunks, especially the size of the shield. She knew what she was getting herself into...

but I won't believe for one damn minute that the current neckline that they used was the best one... not in a long shot.

For that matter, I don’t think the actors (with the exception of Jake Loyd perhaps) were the problem with the Phantom Menace either. Personally, I thought Liam Neeson carried that film and gave one of the best performances ever seen in Star Wars(though many disagree).

I agree that Spacey would have made an excellent Lex Luthor, the problem was the script he was given and how he was directed. I think that with some clever editing I may be able to change this. I’m still iffy on Bosworth and Routhe is kind of, maybe/sort of, starting to grow on me, but in general I agree with everything you’ve said, which is the primary goal of my edit. The majority of the cuts will be made to change the essential structure of the film, making it more cohesive and faster paced. You’d be amazed at the things that happen in the editing room.

Can't say I remember that one. The only one I can recall as being REALLY bad and rubbery looking was in the flashback scene from when he was a kid. There's a shot where he lands on something metal (can't remember what exactly) and there's a close up shot. He turns and runs away from the camera and makes another leap and it's so utterly bad looking it's embarsing.

I know which shot Buggs is refering to, I dont think it looks that bad, but its a situation where there was no reason to even use CGI.

I think it was the color, buggs. There are some shots that look so bad because the color palette seems off.

No, I'll probably never see this superboy adventure ever again.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the pretty picturesque cgi shots and the music is pretty good and you'd have to be blind not to see the point of the story, but...

what I judge this on mostly is my belief about art. I am an artist I guess, I've been one since I was 5 and when I started out I traced other artist's work to a get a feel for how it's done. Then after I understood how all these shapes were formed, I started figuring out how to draw them on my own and I worked to be able to do it just as well as those pictures I used to trace. So I don't have to trace anymore.

How do I say this better...

Remember when I told one of you my sister was a genius? She is. You should see her room, she's got so many novels and papers everywhere and she's at law school right now, going on to become a lawyer to "help people" she tells me...

Well I was bored as hell one day and decided to read one of her snooty pooty smarty pants books. It was called The Fountainhead, by some author called Ayn Rand, yeah weird name. Good read, very interesting story.

Now what I found to be really unsettling about Singer's approach to superman was how similar it was to the appraoch one of the characters in the fountainhead had to his work. the book's about architects struggling to make it in the business and there's this guy Enright who's the main antagonist and tries to defeat the main character, some guy named Howard Roark, for whatever reason. It's been a while and I forget easily.

Anyway, Roark is an excellent architect who's extremely dedicated to his work but he flunks architect school and isn't the top of the class like this other guy. This other guy, I forget his name, he's got no talent, skilled though he is. Singer reminds me of this guy. To get to the point the guy with no talent later steals work from Roark and is praised for being such a clever genius. I think he's later revealed to be a fraud but I just want to show you how I think about all this.

I've never seen any filmmaker so clearly copy another unless it was a remake, or direct to video sequel or one of those bad b-movies, but nothing on this scale like this, costing what this did. So even if this weren't a superman movie I don't think a person like me'd want to own it and watch it ever again. That's just me...

It was uninspiring, I will not see it again!
