hey all,

as the title suggests, this thread is STRICTLY for those of us who DIDN'T like SR......

I was just curious to see how many of you guys and gals hated SR but still love Superman.

Did SR turn you off from the character completely?

Or, are you holding out hope that someday, in the future, we will get a TRUE Superman movie that surpasses the Donner films with a new direction that embodies all of the qualities that we love about Supes?

again, fans of SR need not apply........

Funny question. Just because that movie rapes my favorite character doesn't mean I burn my DVD collection or anything. It's just one cappy movie that will be forgotten within the next few years anyway.

The Superman character is unbreakable, just like the "Look Up in the Sky" documentary proves. One day, there'll be "Superman Begins" and I will smile about the crappy versions that lead to it.

Just like Batman ... :word: :woot:

The character of Superman was raped in this movie, but Superman is still a great character with a ton of potential. We just won't see Singer realize this potential. That doesn't diminish the character. Every hero has had a bad run in comics, but those don't hurt the great runs. Same applies here.

I'd be curious to learn why anyone would suddenly decide they don't like Superman anymore, just because of SR. It sounds like a ridiculous question. Even though I hated SR, I'm more interested in the character now than I have been in more than 10 years.

Donner already made a "true" Superman movie 30 years ago. So, I don't feel like I need to wish and hope for something better to come along. Superman has been brought to life on the big screen, and it worked the first time. More movies of that level of quality and above would be great, of course, but if not, then we'll always have Reeve as Superman, and that's good enough for me.

Yeah. Just not that POS that singer gave us.

I still love Superman.

If Raimi had done the same to Spider-Man that Singer did to Superman I still would love Spider-Man. Luckily Raimi knew what he was doing. The point is that just because Singer ruins the character in a single movie, that has no bearing on 60 plus years of a great iconic legend.

Raimi's Spiderman has been my most painful dissapointment about a superhero I love, but then again, I didn't stop liking Spiderman.

Ahh, another fine troll post.

It was a counter-example of how a bad experience with a movie doesn't have to change your mind about the character, little bucko.

Theres some obvious logic that was missed here. If all the ppl who didnt like the film, dont like Superman.... they likely wouldnt be on these Superman boards everyday.

Clearly everyone on here likes \S/, unless youre trolling over from a Marvel board.

No offense, super-bats, but what a dumb question. BATMAN & ROBIN didn't make me hate the Batman character, and that's as low as a comic book film will ever get (hopefully, for mankind's sake.)

EDIT: Not that I'm comparing SR to that B&R crapfest, just making a point. I love Superman Returns.

ya,I agree.I mean I still liked Batman after B&R,and the Hulk after his film....

ok.....guys and gals......perhaps I could've worded my initial question better.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is........are you still hopeful that......someday.......we'll get a new Superman movie that will reimagine the franchise, start fresh, yet still remain true to the character? IOW.....our own Superman Begins.........

Also, for those of you who didn't care for SR, will you just ignore it like Supes 3 and 4, and Batman + Robin?

and no.....I'm not a marvel troll. Over the last couple of years, I've grown to appreciate Supes more, and I take particular pride in the fact that Superman is "from" Kansas ( my homestate ).

BTW, I just picked up S2: The Donner Cut.

Okay, I liked the movie, but just to answer your question objectively, because this is what a lot of the fanboys who didn´t like the movie say they want, no, at least not in short or even medium term (meaning ten years or so). WB spent several years and a lot of money in development hell trying to find a way to reinvent the Superman franchise. If they weren´t happy with the results for SR, that would be the last time we´d have seen Superman on screen for a LONG time. One of the reasons that got it made to begin with was the wave of popular superhero movies, which, like all those waves in Hollywood, won´t last forever. The studio would probably at least wait for another favorable scenario for the genre to give it another try, and they would probably give consideration to ideas even further from the source than Singer did, given that it was actually far more traditional than a lot of the concepts they thought about, and it would most likely take years, even decades, to happen.

Yeah, realistically there isnt going to be a Superman Begins . The actor who will play Superman in a franchaise restart likely isnt even born yet.

Still love the character, and he's still my favorite (Well tied for 1st). That's why I was so pissed/disappointed when the movie was terrible. I'm not too hopeful of a restart as I think WB will plod ahead with at least one more film of Singer's no matter what.

Yeah the character is awesome. I'm more of a post-crisis fan, but I've always loved the character.

Like other have said, it only added to the dissapointment, because most of us had such high expectations. Really the film was nothing more than a pseudo remake of the first movie. Been there done that.

I think Singer still is the wrong guy for the films. He fit well with X-men, because being a gay man, I'm sure he related to the outcast part of it. It just clicked, he got the relationships right, even if he didn't use some characters to their full potential.

It's odd because I think Ratner would have made a better SR project than Singer, and Singer would have made a better X3 than Ratner. In any case I hope he doesn't screw up the next one.

all I know is that if the sequel turns out to be just as bad as SR was, I will have lost all faith in the Superman movie franchise.

After 5 disappointing movies...I still like Supes. The way I look at it is I always have the 90's animated series and comicbooks.

Hey all! :)

Yes I still like Superman, in fact I watched Superman the Movie when it came on the television here on Christmas Day AND again on New Year's Day! Such a great movie.

I can't express how much of a disappointment Superman Returns really was. Its just one of the biggest misconceptions of all time. Its like every single ingredient in that movie is wrong, every decision made is for the worse.

I really don't want Bryan Singer (or his cronies) involved in the sequel.

"Superman can be a great franchise Bryan, it only lacks the right director to show it the way!"

He's doing the sequel pal. Have a nice 2007.

I still love the character and I still enjoy all previous 4 films and the newly released Donner cut of II. However, I don't think that under the current creative team I'm going to get a good Superman movie. While III and IV may not be great movies, but you can look at them and still say, yeah, that's SUpreman. Maybe a bit corny at times, but I don't get the feeling that the fundametal goodness of the character has been compromised. Unless there is a radical change of direction for the sequel, the Singerverse itself is the problem. In a world where SUperman puts his own feeling above those of the woman he loves, and acts selfishly for purely his own sake and hurts those he loves, it is not a movieverse I have any interest in.
