I have a habit of seeking out bad horror films, and I've been on a roll lately.

By the way, for a real treat, rent Monsturd...which is about, yes...a monster that is made out of a giant piece of crap.

Back on topic...some friends of mine filmed a movie and it got picked up by a distributor. Its now available in Best Buys, random other outlets, Netflix etc. These guys have had ZERO press about their movie, so I was curious about how it got distributed. I watched the movie last night and it is COMPLETE GARBAGE. Remember, this is coming from a guy that just reccomended Monsturd!! I knew that they filmed the movie without a script, and that the actors were just their friends...but i was not ready for how incredibly bad the acting, camera work, production values etc really were. Now, I keep hearing about how its peoples dream to become a movie director. After watching this movie, and so many others...I wonder how hard it really could be. I mean, my friends arent getting rich off of this. The movie stinks and has had zero promotion behind it, but it is available, and I imagine for many people that would be a good first step.

So....how big of an idiot do you have to be to not get your movie distributed? I dont mean that in a bad way, but I'm curious. After watching some of the crap I've seen I'm now convinced that I could get a DVD in stores and I've never even held a video camera.

I don't know anything about distribution. I did hang out one day at Robert Kurtzman's studio in Mansfield, Ohio. He did the effects in Hostile, Pulp Fiction, The Spirit and a hundred others as well as writing From Dusk To Dawn. He was making his own movie, The Rage, while I was there. I finally watched it was pretty bad. Even so, it's at Blockbuster, Best Buy and the rest. Maybe someone there will be willing to talk to you.

Here's a link to his site.

Woot! Mansfield, Ohio! My hometown rears it ugly head. I've actually worked with some of the actors in THE RAGE. Not only was it distributed, I believe it won several horror awards. I'm pretty sure a horror movie being bad doesn't make it...bad.

As Barnum said..."There's a sucker born every minute".

Well, if you have a really good script then you can get a movie made.

But yeah, sometimes i gio how does have of this stuff get made its so horrible, With me thinking i could do better given a certain amount of money.

You don't need a good script to make a movie. Nor do you need good actors. That's what you need to make a GOOD movie. Anyone can make a movie, and almost anyone can get one distributed. You just need decent contacts.

Yes but if you want people to like it you do.

I mean no one wants to go see a horrible crap movie.

Or is this whats the threads about making horrible movies?

I really wanted to like the Rage since I met a lot of those guys working on it, but I'm sorry, it was just, well I don't know how to put it....

The best actor, the black kid who had the best line "I'm a try-sexual, I'll try anything", was the first to get killed. Either they couldn't afford him any longer, or they didn't realize he was the best thing they had going for them.

Halfway through it, the quality of the blood and gore even went south. It was as if they just gave up.

You mean that movie Carrie: The Rage 2? I so that's just a godawful movie.

Hey do you know when that movie with Sean Patrick Flannery is coming out by them? That one was in post production when I was there and looked 10000000000000 x better than the rage.

No, just The Rage. Makes Carrie 2 look like Citizen Kane.

Direct to video. His other big directing feature was Wishmaster. Other than that, he did make up and effects for Tarantino and Rodriguez movies and wrote From Dusk Till Dawn.

I would have to agree its all about contacts. That of course doesn't really mean the movie will be good, but it will be made. Hence some of the titles you guys are discussing.
