I was watching the first Jurassic Park the other day and was reminiscing about my childhood when I realized I would dig another installment no matter how ****** the last two were.

For me one last go around would alright. However I feel that the movement in hollywood to give famous film franchises another go around is getting out of control. Sometimes people just want closure to the characters that they have cared about for so long and constantly making sequels not only ruins the story but harms the characters.

For instance, we have been rooting for the underdog known as McClane for along time now. Then a new installment comes out and the film is okay, it isn't horrible, but what does it accomplish interms of character. NOTHING. Everything is still the same so that there can be another wallet emptying sequel. WELL YOU KNOW WHAT HOLLYWOOD I WON"T BE THERE FOR MY BOY MCCLANE! Because how do I know it will end there? This is why I usually hold to the idea that I will watch to the third installment and then my attention begins to wander.

Did you ever wonder why everytime they fix everything in spiderman in terms of his love life the next installment messes that up so it can go on. You are killin me smalls.

So I am wondering what franchises do you really need to see sequels for and which just need to die. THis isn't an I have this franchise thread and I love this one it is an I love all franchises thread and just want to see the characters done justice. So if you don't like a particular franchise don't comment on it.

ALIVE (ones that still have potential):
Superman
Jurassic Park
Transformers (but after the third no more)
The Dark Knight needs one more though the ending will be hard to follow up
Daredevil (In my opinion this is the only big comic character to never be given justice on the big screen)
Star Trek (Arguably, many people thought these characters already had a good send off)
Iron Man (2 more flicks and avengers is an awesome idea)
Bond (I think this franchise is so ingrained in male fantasy that it will never cease)

DEAD:
Harry Potter(the new one will probably be fantastic, but I don't care)
Indiana Jones (**** Mutt Williams)
Star Wars (thank god we don't have to hold on for another trilogy)
Die Hard (I love McClane but after saving the world a couple of times he would probably catch a break)
Mission Impossible
Bourne
Fantastic Four
Spider-man (I'm torn on this one I love the franchise but want closure for the characters so much)
Lord Of The Rings (tho the hobbit wouldn't be bad)
X-men (this franchise I think has potential for another sequel but i think that the prequels are going to destroy it)
Rambo (okay so he might kill some more people, i could care less)
Terminator (The magic is fading fast from this one now we have to wait two more films to see the end of the war bleh just die already)
Rocky (I think he finally died)
Hulk
Back to the future

I want to see a Taladega Nights Trilogy

Die Hard.....bruce is the man
Mission and Bourne ..part 4s are in the works
Fantastic 4 ..being rebooted
Spider-man ... 4 could be better
LOTR..um the Hobbit should be good
X-men.. first class could be revival , singer expressed interest in returning
Rambo....part five in the works , 4 was better than 2and3
Terminator...probably see a sequel with new direction
Rocky ...series ended fittingly so hopefully no remake , but its hollywood
Hulk ...will be back after Avengers
Back to the future........remake likely

yeah I know that what is so frustrating, there will never be closure. I stopped reading comic books when I realized that superman and lex luthor will both never die.

I feel Terminator 2's ending brought a kind of vague closure that I still consider the real ending. I mean, sure you got the TV series and two more movies, but as far as I'm concerned, the story ended rightfully there. Everything else(and I'm notsaying it's been bad) feels to me like overkill.

I also feel that Episode 3 should have closed the "prequel" phase of the franchise. Going back on the last movie itself and jamming it full of improbable stories with The Clone Wars is not the direction I'd take. It's a whole universe full of characters and stories: and all they can do is keep rehashing the past for the same core characters? Besides, knowing what happens, who kills what and betrays who, and all that, it feels a bit disingenuous to follow the adventures of a character you already saw become evil and others who you already know died. But last I heard, they aren't done with the past, so...yeah.

The Mummy. I enjoyed the first 2 movies. The third made me realize they can't stretch the concept any further, at least not with the same characters.

I do not think the Spider-Man film franchise is dead. Even though many are now kinda sick of it, I still want to see more of that particular universe and all it entails. No Reboot and no recast, there.

And, oh yeah Superman Returns painted itself into a creative corner and in my opinion should be rebooted.

I just want my closure... without it there is no real drama..

Sometimes I wonder if good can really destroy evil, and if evil can really destroy good?

If they only adapted Knights of the Old Republic. Am I the only one who thinks the story of KOTOR rivals the films?

Even if Superman kills Lex , they could find a new villian . If Lex killed Superman we would wind up with Superboy .

Also comic characters tend to come back to life. From what I hear Japanese comics have heroes and villians actually die but continue stories in the same universe.

It would too good to be true . They could produce movies for the adult fans while simultaneously doing a cartoon ( as they have clone wars) .
Instead Lucas wants a dramedy on Skywalker ranch.

I agree with everything but one...

I don't think the Hulk franchise is dead. Or better, it's dead right now, but there's still a great potential for a kick-ass and successful Hulk movie.

Personally, I'd like to see a remake/reimaging/reboot/re-call it whateverthe**** you want of the Hulk. Just don't rush it into production. Whenever there'll be a filmmaker who has an interesting take on the material, put this baby into production!

why do you think the phoenix always comes back? when they killed superman in 93 did you actually think he would stay gone? I stopped reading because in ten years the current storyline in superman will be over and all the characters involved will still be around, so why read?

The point of the thread was not to say what I think is really dead, but the franchises that are dead to me. Certainly there are some stories out there that you want to know the end to?

I mean I am sure there are plenty of harry potter fans that will go see the new one and it might even be a good flick. But I tire of watching film after film with no conclusion. Or reading book after book. After a while I become apathetic to the characters because there is no growth.

I didn't think the last Hulk was bad. It's was definitely better than Ang Lee's Hulk and was pretty good.

noone mention back to the futuer. i don't want a remake of it. i wouldn't know who could play marty mcfly. i think Shia LeBeouf who play trasnfomers. or toby Macqurie could play marty macfly. just let christphor loydd come back. they should just make a squel staring micheal j fox. maybe have his Teeange son tme travling.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Leave it alone. I don't want another Back to the Future. Never.

Ditto! Just leave it alone. Is nothing sacred anymore?

If hollywood ever tries to remake The Godfather that will be the day they've gone too far.

WTF!?

I also think it is lol worthy that you think Daredevil is alive:dry: Yet, you think the X-Men and Harry Potter are dead? umk.........

I don't think that Jurassic Park really has anywhere else to go. Let it be as is.

As much as I want another JP, it doesn't have any where else to go. They go back the island and dinosaurs attack...done. Dinosaurs escape to the mainland...done. If they go with dinosaurs as weapons...I won't watch it:o

Plus, they said that since Michael died, they have no plans to reinvigorate the franchise so it is dead.

Star Wars (thank god we don't have to hold on for another trilogy)

Star Wars will be back with sequels and such, give it time. Lucas is only fooling himself with that "SW is about Anakin, nothin' else!!!!!11!!!!" talk.

Like I said, Knights of the Old Republic would make to be an amazing film whose story rivals the films.

Well most movies have a conclusion but with a franchise it's incredibly difficult. They know the money is there and interest so they will keep bringing things back. I can't really think of a series that has ended proper.
I'd say throw in the towel with Rocky , the last installment was fitting, i thought.

i would like to see a starship troopers reboot, more closely based off the book
