Bruce Timm said on the Fatman on Batman podcast that this DVD/Blu-ray will be released in Septmeber...

Makes sense.

Are WB/DC planning on releasing an official trailer anytime soon? I mean I don't get why they haven't been advertising this more.

They've been really quiet with this one... more so than usual. Especially when the release date is around two months away.

I remember them promoting Year One quite a bit. Did that not do too good in sales or something? Maybe that's why they aren't really doing an aggressive marketing campaign this time around?

Year One was supposedly quite disappointing for them (Plus the more agressive marketing was due to the tie-in with Arkham City).

Maybe this darker Batman has them spooked again... seeing the censorship they are putting on the Beware the Batman cartoon.

Well that certainly seems to explains it. Thanks for the info PF.

I just hope it does well enough that it doesn't cause some delay on Part 2. Now that would be a bit of a bummer.

If only they'd say something about Dark Knight: Boy Wonder.

Batman: Year One did not have disappointing sales, even before the Arkham City video game tie-in.

Releasing the same year, mere months apart, I suspect Warner Brothers didn't want The Dark Knight Returns promotion to interfere with their The Dark Knight Rises promotion, not wanting the similarly titled Batman movies release dates to confuse, conflict and compete with one another. Now that The Dark Knight Rises has been released and making it's profits, The Dark Knight Returns promotion should be heating up soon.

Alan Burnett stated that WB were let down by Batman: Year One. They were expecting MUCH more.

And in turn they were much happier with the Justice League: Doom sales.

my guess is that they've been quiet with the marketing because of the shooting in Colorado. Dark Knight Returns is a pretty dark/violent novel, so WB probably wants to keep things on the down low for now.

Jim Lee's leaving the rebooted Justice League comic, his last issue is #12, releasing on August 29th, so he should be geting back to finally finishing his art duties on Dark Knight: Boy Wonder now, then it can be released on a monthly schedule.

On August 31st last year Jim Lee was asked about Dark Knight: Boy Wonder.

Johnny Destructo: "I know you had spoken recently about ALL-STAR BATMAN & ROBIN...I know it's going to be DARK KNIGHT: BOY WONDER and that they are waiting because they're focusing so much on the (DC Universe) relaunch...but do we have a release date for that yet?"

Jim Lee: "No release date yet because once you say something, then you gotta deliver, and JUSTICE LEAGUE is my first priority, deadline-wise. But I actually have pages of ALL-STAR BATMAN & ROBIN done, but it just doesn't make sense to put those out unless I can deliver the rest of the story on a timely basis."

Johnny Destructo: "Oh, I thought that DARK KNIGHT: BOY WONDER was already done, it's not done yet?"

Jim Lee: "No, no."

Jim Lee again confirmed on twitter on October 10th last year about the delays, "truth be told--not Frank Miller's fault. Falls 100% on me."

Everytime this thread is bumped i fully expect a trailer

Thanks. I had a feeling you'd have some info about that :woot:

I hope we could at least see it some time next year. It's supposed to be the best part of the story and we've been waiting years for it. It's crazy to me that a finite story that started in my very early 20's is still in limbo when I'm about to be a year away from 30 lmao. It's Planetary #28 all over again.

even before that they've been quiet. We've even seen a low-res version of the trailer. They should've released at ComicCon wknd IMO.

Yeah I know... they just expected more from Year One.

Then their expectations were too high. They should have kept in mind that the people that don't read comic books had never heard of Batman: Year One, and it's not Batman versus a super-villain, there's no Robin, there's not even a Batmobile and the Batcave. Instead it's a very small scale crime drama with a lot of focus on James Gordon. As Bruce Timm said, "It's really not a big spectacular action adventure thing with lots of special effects and explosions. It's a very intimate story."

Plus, Batman: Year One is 64 minutes long, which is shorter than the other DC animated movies.

Year One definitely has a more realistic and serious tone. I'd prefer The Dark Knight Returns over it, any day.

As Bruce Timm said, "It's really not a big spectacular action adventure thing with lots of special effects and explosions.

Add all those elements to Year One, and it's basically Nolan's Batman.

I've always preferred The Dark Knight Returns, too. It has so much more going on in it. It's operatic, the scope of it is huge.

True. Yeah, as Bruce Timm said, "Put in more gadgets and the flasher cars, and then suddenly it's not Batman: Year One anymore."

Under The Red Hood remains my fave flick. I liked Year One, but it was too short for me. Great story, though. (Yes i did read the comic.)

The Dark Knight Returns has so much potential to be epic.

I'm not a huge fan of The Dark Knight Returns, but I am looking forward to the adaptation...

Hopefully WB puts some effort into the extras.
