Queen guitarist Brian May has confirmed the band will use a Freddie Mercury hologram on a West End theatre stage – and vows people will wonder if they really saw the star.

A digital projection will appear next week to mark the tenth anniversary of the band’s musical We Will Rock You.

The Mercury projection will be used at London’s Dominion Theatre. The original cast, along with producer Robert De Niro, will be present for the May 14 anniversary.
Wish I could be there, will surely be epic.

Nah, I disagree, to see Tupac (albeit on youtube) was awesome, this will be ten times more so! He'll never come back, so its just to accept it and take the next best thing :)

We're getting closer and closer to the Old People of Mid-World.

I'm still not sure how to feel about this. The Tupac revival was pretty cool and the technology behind it is very impressive, but after a while I'm not too sure where the line can be drawn. It's still kind of creepy.

Can't wait to see this on video.

Would all these holograms of dead celebrities be considered Techno Zombies?

I think it might be interesting to see his hologram perform with the rest the original of Queen. But I don't know.

And so it begins, ugh.

I think this is exploitative.

It just doesn't sit right with me.

i eagerly await the first lawsuit regarding artists' rights and hologram technology.

Will this be a 2D projected hologram or a 3 Dimensional one though?

The thing is, Mercury was like the worlds largest diva. He loved to sing and be on stage... hell, he even recorded music only hours before his death because he wanted to haha. I really dont think he would have anything against performing even after his death. Especially since he basically started his career with this quote:

I'm not going to be a rockstar.
I'm going to be a legend.

- Freddie Mercury

I agree with Obin gam, if Freddie was the same privately as he acted publicly at all I think he'd love this.

I think it just defeats the whole purpose of a "live performance" though a lot of singers don't even sing live. It seems to me that the talented people behind it are the ones with this hologram thing, not Mercury himself.

Yeah, it's sort of creepy and it's not the same as seeing the actual people alive in concert (how could it be?) but it's still sorta nifty and cool to me. I don't buy into the kneejerk backlash with this sort of stuff and the Tupac hologram.
