Chris Stuckman is happy with it.
So far it's 40 reviews in, 7 out of them are rotten, and the movie holds its place at 83%.
I won't expect it to last this positive though, I think I'll leave my expectations at 60%, which is easily higher than what I expected (15%) months ago.

The Collider Movie Talk crew gave it a perfect score. From what I'm seeing it sounds like die hard fans should absolutely love it like possibly the best CBM ever or in that ball park. But the more casual fans will just think it's a good-but-not-great CBM which are plentiful these days. In fact Fant4stic is the true anomaly as we rarely get pure crap CBM's anymore.

Based on some of the reactions I've been seeing ... Seems like this movie will have a similar reception as something like the first Kick-Ass. Some movies are just not "for" some people, you know?

That said, if this gives me any Kick-Ass 1 vibes, then I will love it.

It's better than Kick-Ass, which was overrated.

That's saying a lot to me, because I still love the first Kick-Ass (emphasis on "the first"; I did not like Kick-Ass 2).

I love both (the first is definitely the superior entry) but I feel like in a sense Deadpool will end up being everything Kick-Ass wished it was.

I thought the first Kick-Ass! was Vaughn's best movie easily and one of the better CBM's ever made.

Yeah, Kick-Ass! but 3X bigger seems like what it'll be like.

IMHO, Kick-Ass was never quite as smart as it thought it was. Also a lot of the characters were really unlikable. It had some nice ideas on deconstructing the whole comic book superhero style and genre, but it didn't work that well.

Like one particular moment that I thought was played really weak was the main character narrating that scene where he gets tortured and saying how he could actually die and talks to the audience pointing out films where the character narrating the film was someone who was already dead to prove he actually could die and then...

Proceeds to not die. Bad stupid and snarky gimmick.

Layer Cake is my personal favorite Matthew Vaughn movie (and I have a soft spot for Stardust; it's a "feel good" movie for me) ... But I've yet to see a film of his that I've disliked. X-Men: First Class is my favorite X-Men movie by far, too.

I understand a lot of the criticisms towards the first Kick-Ass, but I thought it was one of the very few CBMs to be vastly superior to the comics (probably an unpopular opinion? I'm not sure). I'd say more, but this thread is about Deadpool, so I'll bring it back to him ...

I may love Kick-Ass, but I'm completely open and welcoming to the thought of enjoying another R-rated comic book movie more. If I end up loving Deadpool more, that would be awesome! :)

Not a fan of the Kick-Ass comics. Not surprised they had to change the story's more nihilistic aspects. It was really depressing.

    Sounds promising so far.
I'm interested in seeing the results next week.
I don't think it tried to be smart, but I mostly agree with this.

And I completely agree with this.

I have been reading quite a bit of Deadpool lately, and I really do see the similarities between Ryan's Deadpool and a combination of Daniel Way's as well as other deadpools, I think Ryan was born to play this part!

It could honestly still go anywhere depending on how much reviews we'll get, but the early reviews are a good indication of where it is going, I think.

Each review is 2 percentage points. I'd like the critics number to be 100 before I start to feel the number is solid.

Down to 80% but at least we got in 6 fresh reviews between the previous rotten and this one. :)

    Likewise.

Yeah, was waiting for those more prudish 1/5 star reviews to start coming in. Only was a matter of time sadly given the content.

So glad to hear that... I didn't like Kick-Ass at all for the most part.

Kick-Ass is one of my absolute favorite movies. The sequel on the other hand...
