OBSERVATION: There's five different types of friends.
1) A friend you can have a great conversation with face to face, on the phone, and online.
2) A friend you can have a great conversation with face to face, but can't have one on the phone or online because they are distracted with something.
3) A friend you can have a great conversation with face to face and on the phone, but can't have one online. It's usually as a result of them doing multiple things online.
4) A friend you can have a great conversation with face to face and online, but it's difficult to carry one over the phone. This is usually the case with younger people. I think a good amount of us grew up in a time when talking on the phone was very common. Nowadays it's basically text messages, AIM, myspace, facebook, etc.
5) *Here's the rare one* The friend with the speech impediment. Obviously these friends communicate better online than face to face or over the telephone.
