Friends of God: A Road Trip

i just finished this documentary on hbo called "friends of God: a road trip". in it, the director embarks on a road trip across the bible belt and interviews various church and evangelical leaders. to make a long story short, this scared the **** out me.

these people are so hateful it's digusting. i mean, to actually use God's name when preaching against PEOPLE is evil. i refuse to believe that Jesus Christ would allow pastors and preachers to use anti-gay slurs. i refuse to believe that Jesus would tolerate their teachings that anyone that is not a Christian is a lesser human being.

it's sick. it really is. these people are the new nazis. what do you think?

but this thing goes deeper and shows you just how evil it is.

i mean, these people are trying to start a "holy war". to me, that's scarier then any foreign terrorist.

The difference is that the Christians don't have the power. They don't have nukes or AK-47's nor are they looking for them.

The Muslims on the other hand are, we have to do whatever we can to stop them.

the Christians are the president, and up until the last election, the entire congress.

as long as the republican party continues to cater to these nuts, they'll have more more than any extremist muslim terrorist.

actually, while phelps wasn't in this documentary, jerry falwell was, and he's almost just as bad.

sometimes they're one and the same. this thread is about the documentary i watched. the republican party played a HUGE part in it.

I was in a car with some bible thumpers today...I went to a church and had to listen to why homosexuals were "depraved and sinners in the eyes of God, and couldn't accept Jesus". I tried to defend otherwise to my friends in the car. They said you cannot selectively read the Bible, so I asked them why they were anti-semetic or impoverished (both things the Bible requires) and of course they claimed it did not say those things. They also posted on my wall (on Facebook) that Jesus loves me even if you don't understand it. It makes me sad to see such intolerance.

I don't know if you guys have, but there was this scene where he went to church, and it was just flipping crazy. They all had these demon possesed eyes. And what's funny is the other day I seen this documentary on tv, and it was interviewing these white supremacy members, and they had the same bloody look in their eyes.

That drives me nuts...even though I probably understand that book than some of them do...it just drives me nuts.

I'd hate to break it to them that Jesus is long since dead and therefore is incapable of love.

Amen, All these relegious freaks can burn in hell(not that there is a hell).
Id much rather put my fate in the hands of people who decide right and wrong based on their feelings of the moment than those freaks that use some old book and ancient beliefs.
