Often times we see on image sharing sites or some online source of news or entertainment, pictures of the world from the long past. Sometimes these are photos of important moments from history, hinge points, caught at just the right time iconic snap shots, all that. On the other hand some can be just slices of life that are interesting in that they show both how much things have changed and how much they haven't. I find these more fascinating than outright "awesome" so to that end here is a place where you can post and share pictures from around the world and from before the year 2000 that are either slices of life or chronicle important moments or eras from the past.

One of the daughters of Jerry Rainey, a miner who was out on strike against the Brookside Mining Company in Brookside, Kentucky, for several months during 1974. She stands on the back porch of the house Rainey rents from the company. Notice the outhouses in the background. The family was threatened by eviction during the lengthy and sometimes violent strike despite a state law which outlaws such practices.

Wow, interesting that you made this thread now. I've wanted to take pictures of people in every day life for a while. One day the mundane parts of every day life are going to be really interesting, yet odd.

I have no idea what to photograph or if I even have the right to do it. There are privacy and legal aspects to think about.

Reportage photographer's such as Henri Cartier-Bresson (he is one of the best examples) capture candids to tell a story of contemporary life though Cartier-Bresson spoke of how one must click with people just as one clicks away with their camera.

Laws on photography in public places and of people of course do vary but reportage photography is definitely what is being shown in this thread so far.

he most memorable international basketball game in history, and one of only four times in which the American didn’t get to win the gold. That was Team USA’s first ever loss in the Olympics, but it didn’t come without a huge controversy and debate, going on to this day, suggesting foul play involved. Doug Collins hit two free throws with one second left to give the USA a 50-49 lead. Then the mess began. Dr William Jones, the British secretary of FIBA intervened for some reason, sending the clock backwards to three seconds. The Soviets messed up by sending their inbound pass long, but the play and clock were reset again for some reason. On the second try, Alexander Belov hit a buzzer beating layup. The United States appealed the result, but lost it 3-2 by a jury.

1972 Canada-Soviet Hockey Series (Summit Series).
The last game, on September 28, was watched intently by the largest Canadian TV audience on record. It began with 2 quick Soviet goals, the ejection of a Canadian player, and a long delay as Canadians raged over the officiating. Here we see Canada celebrate it's victory.
