World From Ratner's Superman

For a guy who ****ed up X-Men.....His Superman movie could of been great though.

I know I've said this before. But...

The Ratner hate has hit a "full on ******" high. The dude was brought in so late into the game that he didn't have time to make any significant changes to what had been written and decided upon regarding plot. At the same time, he can't run around with this "Mine was more successful!" crap because it was a foregone conclusion The Last Stand was going to kick ass at the box-office. The first two films were so damn popular (and successful) that people were going in regardless.

If anyone deserves the blame for The Last Stand (which is a perfectly watchable film - just an epic-level of disappointment and sheer laziness/half-assery), it's the producers, 20th Century Fox and, to a degree, Bryan Singer.

Ratner was one of the last people brought on board. Most of the key decisions (like casting, plot, location, etc.) had already been decided on. They literally needed a director to do a "9 to 5" job - i.e. tell the DP where to point the camera, BS the actors/crew, etc. in order to make its release date.

I'm gonna have to give some credit to Ratner for the casting. Some of these are just people he wanted, not actually official.

Superman - Matthew Bomer
Lois - Keri Russell
Lex - Ralph Fiennes
Jor-El - Anthony Hopkins
Perry - Christopher Walken

That would've been amazing, imo, if it happened.

So I've seen the images of the Stan Winston suit that would have been used if McG made the movie, but what would the suit have looked like if Ratner made the movie? Does anybody know?

We've seen the Eddie Yang concepts and the David Williams concepts (the one with the high neck line and big "S") but to my knowledge, we have not yet seen what Ratner's suit would have looked like; we've only seen the "S" symbol.

From what I read the suit that Brett Ratner had in mind was the same material that the Spider-Man suits were made out of and it looked like the Kingdom Come suit except the "S" would of been the one you in the concept art.

So the suit essentially would have been a spandex-type material. Would the undies have been on the suit or no? I've heard different descriptions.

I'm not sure but my guess is no since most of the concept art at the time were trying to get rid of that aspect of the suit. Maybe Ratner would of suprised us and kept them in.

I've heard that Anthony Hopkins was to play Jor-El, then I heard he was to play Lex Luthor. Which one is it?

Was thsi for McG's Superman or for Ratner's?

I am waiting for the day that we see Ratner's design. Something tells me that I would like his more.

supposedly this is the cast he was trying to get for the movie.

Matt Bomer-Clark Kent/Superman
Kerri Russell-Lois Lane
Anthony Hopkins-Jor-El
Ralph Fiennes-Lex Luthor
Christopher Walken-Perry White
Joel Edgerton-Ty-Zor

I've read about other cast members that he was trying to get involved but I have know idea if its true or not. NotFadeAway seems to know more about that though.

Anyone willing to make a manip of the Ratner suit? :yay:

wow this would have sucked

krypton never blew up?WTF

Not true. That was from the leaked first draft. Abrams' second draft reportedly removed the major aspects of the first draft that fans were unhappy with (ie Krypton not blowing up, the part where Jor-El and Kal-El have their little meeting in the afterlife, Lex being alien, and the suit being in a can). Had this film gone into production, the second draft would have been used, and we would have had a worthy reboot, introducing some cool and unique new elements, but still retaining the classic staples of the mythos of Superman's origin.

Maybe they should get Ratner to do the future Superman films and have Supes wear that suit that was in that pic...Looks kickass!

brett ratner has made one good movie. i would never ever trust him with superman.

Ratner was a studio tool.

I know I've said this before. But...

While Ratner did join X3 relatively late he still had influence on the script (third act changed), editing, cinematography and even casting with the likes of Eric Dane, Bill Duke, Omahyra, Ken Leung etc. The film is certainly not the abomination it's made out to be but i do shudder to think what he would have done had he been in charge from day one.:o

As for Superman, well he certainly had a grand film in mind and i would certainly be interested in seeing how that would have turned out, but i suspect his ADD style of editing and his constant battles with producer Jon Peters would have stood in the way of really good movie.

Brett Ratner's 2002 Holiday Card. He did something similar for X-Men but then he was really dressed as Wolverine and not photoshopped.:o

I like that, maybe could even get on board with it as a new Superman costume. Although the :super: shield I would prefer it didnt connect with his cape.

Are anywhere artworks for Batman vs. Superman?
