Superman Returns FULL Ottman Score!

Hey everyone Im back

Anyone here the Krypton theme music, like in the trailer, I cant find it :(

There is a Krypton/Fortress of Solitude leitmotif played very briefly and softly at about 17:40 in, and a very strong one in at about 23:40 in.

Ottman could have given better renditions of the Williams' themes.

Man, it's tough to judge a score out of context from picture--especially when an hour of it is missing (union fees). I personally love it--I guess I must be deaf then or something, or maybe I'm just a really ****ty musician, because I just don't hear what all you guys are hearing that make you say "its nowhere near the original--it's nowhere near Williams.' Theres too much choral." Of course it's not Williams. Williams' didn't score it. It's a film and a score separated by almost 30 years from when Williams scored the first one. Ottman uses choral accompaniment in most of his scores. It's the way he writes. And I respect it, cause--dare I say it--it's a how he orchestrates his scores, and its actually different from how Williams scored the original. For me, its still within the classic feel.

I hated the Superman II score--which was essentially Ken Thorne rearranging every John Williams theme. To me, that sounds worse than a new take on a classic theme. I guess thats just me though.

definitely not the best soundtrack out there today, but it's okay...

sorry, but when compared to JW's score nothing topsit... not even Ottman's. With Ottman's score, you get a "clang" feeling, but with JW's score, you get a "boom" feeling...

im liking this more and more i listen... i had 2 people on my way home ask me what i was listening too... one was a DJ and wants a copy..... they loved it just sitting in traffic listening...go figure...

BTW im digging song 3 or Rough FLIght alot

if I had a favorite on this soundtrack, that one is my favorite as well.

I know that the CD won't be released until June 27, BUT! iTunes has the Superman Returns soundtrack up for sale right now!!!!!! I'm debating downloading now, or waiting until the CD. Maybe both!

I love it the more I listen to it. Ottman incorporates not only the themes but cues and other little bits of Williams, like the part in STM when Clark throws the crystal, those succession of short violin pulls, you can hear that in occasion throughout SR's score.

But I love it when the Williams's themes that pop up, like at the end of 'Not Like the Train Set".

I am going to cry like a ***** in the theater when I hear the Superman theme in glorious theater sound. :(

I'm definitely going to tear up at the opening. And who knows what will happen during the plane sequence

yeah there are tweaks to the "Superman Theme" as we've all heard but its still the theme and that in itself is something to be proud of

I'm anticipating some people do some quiet cheering when it plays in the theater ;)

some

whoo!'s and yeahs!!

it took 20 years but its gonna be a great moment to hear the theme being blared from the theaters audio system. I'd be awesome if someone taped the crowds reaction

Although we're judging the score by a 50 minute cd, I have some comments:

- Superman Theme - Besided the main titles, why didn't Ottman incorporate the Superman theme (not the March, which he used frequently) in the rest of the score?

- Many of the Williams' themes seem to be played just to comply with an obligation or somehing, since they almost never get full blown renditions, which is shame specially in the case of the Love theme (except the last track)

- The new personal theme is a note by note rip off of the main theme from The Village, by James Newton Howard

Maybe because he did not want to end up over using the Superman Theme ? & besodes you really only need the Superman Theme during "Key Moments" of the Movie not a little bit here & there during the entire score

i think bryan singer said the 'superman theme' was a nod to the past at the beginning of the movie

Then as it progresses Ottman's music starts to take over.

What would that say about him as a composer if he kept going back to Williams stuff and not doing his own thing?

I just bought the album from iTunes, listening to it right now as I type and study. Ottman is teasing us with building up to the the motifs and then right when we think it's going to explode, he takes it down a bit. I'm listening to track 5 right now titled "how can you leave us." It features the "love theme." How fitting.

Also -

in addition to revisiting the Williams themes in the score, I really like the new theme that Ottman came up with (at least I think it's original. I don't recognize it from S:TM) (For those with the MTV plane sequence clip, the theme can be heard in the plane sequence, when the camera focuses on the cockpit) The theme hits about 10:30 -10:50 into the score.... it's also on the track titled "rough flight." It's revisited and used quite a bit.

respect for JW +1 b/c of his relationship with chris

i understand why he didn't do it, but i just wish they would've got an understudy (don davis) or something instead of ottman. he nails the updated theme (kinda hard when williams set the foundation ;) ), but the filler just seems like that: filler

The score is good IMO. May not be better than the original. But it still gets much respect.

Well the guy was talking about stealing it. He is making it right now by deleting it and going to the recording association page and filling out the amnesty. Stealing is not a concept that, if superman were real, would aprove of. And besides. Stealing is just plain wrong to begin with. This soundtrack, in some smaller part, is paying a lot of peoples paychecks. Stealing it would mean taking moeny away from them. yeah it isn't taking it all awaya from them, but steal enough and it does.

Does anyone else feel like they´re gonna get the goosebumps when the John Williams theme starts playing? Tan taran tan tan, tan tan tan tan tan tan taran tan tan...

i was thinking more along the lines..of a cold shiver..than the music step ups a gear. then...oh my god..its finally here.

i wonder why in the 3rd trialer the music towards the end when you see the ship being destroyed and supes falling that they didnt ADD that song or if someone knows who has the full version of it please contact me ASAP that was a bad ass song to leave out!
