i loved hairspray the first time around (and all john waters movies for that matter)...and was a little hesitant about this at first...but seeing as it's based on the musical, that was based on the movie..and that waters is involved i'll check it out.

I saw the original movie years ago. The mother was played by a guy back then too. I think it's a pre-requisite for the role or something...but then it's a John Waters movie, so that could explain it, too.
