Funny People (New Judd Apatow movie)

I liked it, but I agree with all of the reviews and everyone here that believe it teetered out once the family/get the girl plot started.

i wish he had his own standout film

Sandler is headed back to regular comedies soon:

Adam Sandler, Norm McDonald, Chris Rock, David Spade, Tim Meadows, Rob Schneider and "The New, Sober, Family Version of Chris Farley" Kevin James.

seems like a movie being made just to give a couple of comedies another shot in the limelight (specifically McDonald, Rock, Spade, and especially Schneider)

I read they will put a lot of Randy footage on the dvd when it comes out. They may have special feature extra just for himself.

Yeah, prolly. They showed alot of stand up for him on the comedy central dvds. there was alot of stuff shown in the trailer and tv spots that weren't in the movie.

You know Apatow dvds are packed with the goods. Expect a two disc set.

I'm definitely getting this movie on dvd as a 2 disc set

Aziz Ansari (Randy) has a small role in the Apatow Produced "Sarah Marshall" spinoff "Get Him to the Greek."

I'm very curious to see which Office/Parks and Recreation cast member appears in his next movie.

Jonah Hill isn't a huge box office pull. Rogen is hit or miss. Knocked Up was a hit. Superbad was also a hit. Pineapple Express did okay. But Zack & Miri and Observe and Report both flopped at the box office.
Rogen and Sandler are household names and Hill is getting there. The younger crowd knows who Hill is since Superbad was a hit and Apatow's movies target that vital demographic...the 18-34 year old male audience. The thing with Sandler is, he is already started to fizzle and the movies that he is usually in are mediocre to terrible. Sandler is just a comedic sellout. Rogen is a funny guy but he has over saturated himself. He is in too many funny movies that come out two a year and he seems to be a one note actor or makes bad decisions on the scripts he takes.

Pineapple express did more than just okay...it did pretty good. Zack and Miri was mediocre because Kevin Smith directed it and did a horrible job. That movie was just shock with a little bit of funny. It also opened on Halloween which was an extremely stupid move and that hurt it big time. Observe and Report was just a horrible movie. Adam Sandler has been in a couple of box office duds...what does that matter:huh:

I haven't seen this movie yet, I probably will, just not in a hurry. I wish Apatow would get out of his comfort zone and direct other people. I also would like to see him be able to make a serious movie instead of mixing in seriousness with comedy. I hate going to see what I think is a comedy and having serious undertones with dramatic moments that take away from the comedy and that is what I fear most about this movie.

I think when they say a guy is dying, I think it might mean the movie might serious.

So people think Dying is okay?

You are complaining about him using the same people. But Look at Tim Burton, he's used Johnny Depp in how many movies now? And their making another new one soon.

Apatow is a comedy writer so expect to see some Comedy thrown in there. You can't deny what you are.

Scorsese did the same with DeNiro, Keitel and others and now he's doing it with DiCaprio.

In the same minute clip, they say you are alright and everyone is happy and making jokes! Why would they tackle a movie about a guy with cancer and throw in jokes about Harry Potter and Diehard:huh: Is this movie suppose to be a comedy or a drama? Is Apatow making a new breed of movies called Dramatic Comedies? Isn't a dramatic comedy an oxymoron? Do I want to see a funny movie about a guy dying of cancer and his struggles with life?

I also complain about Burton using the same people over and over and doing the same style over and over but you cannot deny that Helena and Depp are leagues ahead of Rogen and Sandler and Burton is a better director than Apatow. So, I would probably choose a Burton movie over an Apatow movie any day.

Doesn't Woody Allen do comedies that are also dramas too? That's what his next film is going to be.

Not a fan of Woody Allen.

Let me paraphrase, I don't like comedies that try too hard to be serious and I don't like dramas that try too hard to have comedy. It just doesn't mesh well and most of the time, it feels forced either way. I am sure there are directors that have done it but there is a reason why we don't see a ton of dramatic comedies or comedic dramas...however you say it or whatever genre name it has. Why? Because both take you away from the other. You are laughing your butt off at the funny moments and then it shifts to a serious tone. Or, you are feeling for the character's struggles and life pains and then people are making penis, fart, or sex jokes. It just doesn't mesh well.

That new Jeremy Piven comedy (The Goods) will probably get better reviews then Funny People.

I was surprised not to see Ken Jeong anywhere, but at least he's in The Goods.

Yep. He gets the crap beaten out of him and blinded by an exploding money bag in the trailer.

Poor Ken.

:hehe:
