Absolutely loved the humor in the preview, especially with the way the 'now you know' line was used. Isn't Sam Register the guy who did Teen Titans and current VP for Cartoon Network? With luck, we might get an animated series. Question is, should it be on Cartoon Network proper or Adult Swim?
Try and go back and watching the original version of Robotech. It's very sanitized even though people would die.
All this anger Blade X and you are so anti-Wolverine and The X-men which is definitely not a juvenile show and is more in the range and tone of what you prefer.
I think what Resolute is aiming to achieve is the cartoon equivalent of a PG-13 rating with a display of violence comparable to contemporary anime series. By this, I mean that although characters may die on screen, you're not going to see much gore. At most, you'll see bullet holes and maybe the odd impalation. You're kidding yourself if you think there'll be any display of significant mutilation along the lines of those arising from real machine gun fire.
I feel like Pixar is one of the few places that seems to comprehend that. Kids love their movies, but so do adults. It definitely SHOULD NOT be on Adult Swim.
I am sick and tired of people (fans, creators, and executives) taking characters and material ORIGINALLY created for and aimed at kids/all ages and aiming it exclusively at adults who got into this stuff when they themselves were kids. On the flip side, I HATE it when those same fans, creators, and executive write down to their audience whenever they aim this stuff at kids/all ages. Very RARELY does anybody try to aim for the middle ground.
However, this is one time, that after years of kidsy Joe cartoons, I will gladly invite an adult one. Even if it wasn't a series but just a couple of Direct to DVD things, I would really love to see a more violent, more serious Joe cartoon. This doesn't mean they have to drop F-Bombs, hack off heads, blood gushing, etc. I just want a serious Joe cartoon, intelligently written, where people die, and lazerz! don't come from the damn guns.
One reason I say this is, at least in my experience, when I see people buying Joes at Toys R Us, or WalMart, it's always adults. People my age you know are fans. I never see kids buying Joes. Except the Sigma 6, but that was a terrible series. I really do feel that, while kids may like Joes, in this case the adult fans definitely outnumber the kids by a lot.
I don't think GI Joe should target adults only. I don't think every animated Joe cartoon has to alienate kids. However, just once, I would like to see a mature, violent, serious Joe movie. See, I grew up on the comics, not that kidsy childish cartoon. Even as a kid, I saw that the comics were written like an actual military story, not some lazers/no one dies bullcrap. And in alllllll of the years of Joe cartoons, and movies, they have been like that. Lasers, no one dies, bad puns, bad plot. So, finally us adult fans, us comic fans are getting what we want, and people like you are talking about "alienating" kids. The cartoons have alienated me for years, let me have THIS ONE THING!People used that same argument to justify aiming the Marvel and DC comics at adults, and today's comics (when they are not using stunts and gimmicks to artificially boost sales) are selling their lowest in the entire history of the comic book industry. Aiming toys and characters originally created for kids MAINLY (or SOLELY) at adults is short term thinking and will most likely lead to that line of toys and/or characters cease being produced to low sales.
like I said in my previous posts, a mature JOE cartoon could be made and still be both suitable for and appealing to both kids and adults. Which is what I said this new JOE cartoon seems to be doing.
