G.I. Joe: Resolute preview from the Con

That was awesome, is this a movie like the batman gotham knight thing?

Yes!!!! when does that come out looks amazing. Hope its not like the Batman Gotham Knight cause that sucked!

I still like the original G.I. JOE Cartoon series drawing best though!

Whoa. That is amazing. That looks better than anything we've seen from Sommers movie. Can't wait to get that on DVD.

It's the first ever PG-13 GI JOE animation.

Basically they are going to be 5-minute micro-shorts ala the first Clone Wars. Together they will run like an hour-65 minutes-ish. I think they will all be released as one on DVD.

Hasbro said it could become a series if it does well.

I think this is a great idea that we can actually have an animation in the similar tone to the comics where people you know ACTUALLY GET SHOT, STABBED, AND KILLED! Finally.

The animation actually looks like its turning out to be really good quality. I'm excited.

That preview looked like CRAP. I hope this series flops.

Just kidding.:yay: I think this series look GREAT

That was great indeed.

"I didn't know we had a Ninja."

Now
You
Know!

:D

Absolutely loved the humor in the preview, especially with the way the 'now you know' line was used. Isn't Sam Register the guy who did Teen Titans and current VP for Cartoon Network? With luck, we might get an animated series. Question is, should it be on Cartoon Network proper or Adult Swim?

I think this is more an experiment to see if a GI JOE animation can be successful in this style. And if it is a success, maybe it could turn into a series. Hasbro definitely sounded open to it.

Originally the new MOTU series was supposed to be just like a one hour animated special and then it ended up turning into an episode series.

That was cool, very well done.

Would definitely love for it to become a part of the Adult Swim line up.

Yeah but that would mean the shorts and DVD of the shorts would have to be a success first.

Just do direct to DVD like Marvel and DC animation is doing now. Who needs it on Cartoon Network with their commercials every 38 seconds.

It definitely SHOULD NOT be on Adult Swim.

I am sick and tired of people (fans, creators, and executives) taking characters and material ORIGINALLY created for and aimed at kids/all ages and aiming it exclusively at adults who got into this stuff when they themselves were kids. On the flip side, I HATE it when those same fans, creators, and executive write down to their audience whenever they aim this stuff at kids/all ages. Very RARELY does anybody try to aim for the middle ground.

A G.I. JOE cartoon that contains lots of action with people getting shot, stabbed, and killed on screen can be made and still be both suitable for and appealing to kids and people of ALL AGES (7 and 8 year old kids, tweens, teens, and adults). If you don't believe me, just check out THE LEGEND OF PRINCE VALIANT,EXO-SQUAD,WING COMMANDER ACADEMY,GARGOYLES, the first season of the Filmation FLASH GORDON cartoon (and especially the animated movie),MIGHTY MAX,ROBOTECH,JOHNY QUEST (the ORIGINAL 60's series),THE REAL ADVENTURES OF JOHNY QUEST,the original and upcoming CLONE WARS series, and the 2nd seasons of both the 90's IRON MAN and FANTASTIC four cartoons.

Try and go back and watching the original version of Robotech. It's very sanitized even though people would die.

All this anger Blade X and you are so anti-Wolverine and The X-men which is definitely not a juvenile show and is more in the range and tone of what you prefer.

Hasbro right now hasn't made any sort of broadcast announcements. All we know is that they will first be a micro-short series, and then a 60 minute DVD with all the shorts.

I think what Resolute is aiming to achieve is the cartoon equivalent of a PG-13 rating with a display of violence comparable to contemporary anime series. By this, I mean that although characters may die on screen, you're not going to see much gore. At most, you'll see bullet holes and maybe the odd impalation. You're kidding yourself if you think there'll be any display of significant mutilation along the lines of those arising from real machine gun fire.

1. I have watched the original ROBOTECH series numerous times (I own the entire series on video tape). I NEVER said the series was not sanitized. My point was (and still is) that you can do an action cartoon series that shows people dying/getting killed on screen and still be both appealing and suitable for kids and people of ALL AGES.

2. I am NOT "anti-WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN". In fact, I think the series looks GREAT. However, I do have a problem with the lack of black mutant characters in the show (and the comics) and the shoddy treatment of the FEW black characters of AFRICAN DESCENT that they do have. And while I'm sure that WATXM is not a "juvenile" show, it's a safe bet that series is NOT in the range and tone that I prefer (but it MIGHT be pretty damn close).

I agree. Heck, the shows I listed in my earlier post fall into that category. That is why I feel this show DOES NOT belong on Adult Swim. In fact, the violence in that preview was in line with the Code Approved G.I. JOE comics from the 80's.

I think G.I. Joe Resolute looks fantastic. I hope the web episodes and dvd sell enough copies to green light a new G.I. Joe series.

I feel like Pixar is one of the few places that seems to comprehend that. Kids love their movies, but so do adults.

And, I do agree that the animated Clone Wars cartoon was really done well. Great action, but it didn't alienate kids.

However, this is one time, that after years of kidsy Joe cartoons, I will gladly invite an adult one. Even if it wasn't a series but just a couple of Direct to DVD things, I would really love to see a more violent, more serious Joe cartoon. This doesn't mean they have to drop F-Bombs, hack off heads, blood gushing, etc. I just want a serious Joe cartoon, intelligently written, where people die, and lazerz! don't come from the damn guns.

One reason I say this is, at least in my experience, when I see people buying Joes at Toys R Us, or WalMart, it's always adults. People my age you know are fans. I never see kids buying Joes. Except the Sigma 6, but that was a terrible series. I really do feel that, while kids may like Joes, in this case the adult fans definitely outnumber the kids by a lot.

People used that same argument to justify aiming the Marvel and DC comics at adults, and today's comics (when they are not using stunts and gimmicks to artificially boost sales) are selling their lowest in the entire history of the comic book industry. Aiming toys and characters originally created for kids MAINLY (or SOLELY) at adults is short term thinking and will most likely lead to that line of toys and/or characters cease being produced to low sales.

like I said in my previous posts, a mature JOE cartoon could be made and still be both suitable for and appealing to both kids and adults. Which is what I said this new JOE cartoon seems to be doing.

I don't think GI Joe should target adults only. I don't think every animated Joe cartoon has to alienate kids. However, just once, I would like to see a mature, violent, serious Joe movie. See, I grew up on the comics, not that kidsy childish cartoon. Even as a kid, I saw that the comics were written like an actual military story, not some lazers/no one dies bullcrap. And in alllllll of the years of Joe cartoons, and movies, they have been like that. Lasers, no one dies, bad puns, bad plot. So, finally us adult fans, us comic fans are getting what we want, and people like you are talking about "alienating" kids. The cartoons have alienated me for years, let me have THIS ONE THING!

Now, let me stress this. I am not opposed to a cartoon/movie that both adults and kids can love. Look at Pixar movies. I love those, they don't talk down to me. But kids love them too. That is fine. But GI Joe cartoons aren't that well written. So no, I'm not opposed to a middle ground. Nor am I saying kids don't matter for sells. But why is it such a bad thing if kids get cartoons, and we get mature cartoons? Do both. Mature for people like me, who want gritty, and then others for people like you. Simple.
