EDIT: I totally typed Transformers in the thread title when I meant to type G.I. Joe. :cmad: :(

EDIT, EDIT: Immortalfire rules.

According to Rich Johnston, Marvel may be actively seeking the publishing rights for G.I. Joe. If this could lead to a return of G.I. Joe and Transformers and ROM, I'd cream myself.

Rich Johnston said:
I understand that the publishing rights to "GI Joe" are up for grabs. After the success of the "Transformers" and with a "GI Joe" movie in production, Hasbro are looking around.

Devil's Due are certainly in line to retake the franchise, but so are Marvel, who are pushing that the "Transformers" movie which made so much money for Hasbro, used a lot of content generated by Marvel.
One peculiar wrinkle is that Marvel and Hasbro are still in debate over the rights to "Rom." The original patent on the toy has lapsed, so it's all about the development of the property, and who actually did what. There's all sorts of interesting legal questions being asked. Those Dire Wraiths didn't come from nowhere.

And the upcoming "Essential Power Man And Iron Fist" had to miss out the issue that featured Rom.

It's all good for lawyers...

That's cool. I hope they keep the GI Joe characters in their own universe, though. As cool as it might be to have GI Joe recast as a subdivision of SHIELD, we're already seeing how much trouble licensed characters becoming too enmeshed in Marvel's continuity can cause with ROM.

For the Joes, I agree that keeping them in their own universe would probably work better. ROM, on the other hand, was pretty well integrated into the MU and since the rights have been lost by Marvel, they've done a good job of getting around the fact by not addressing certain characters by exact names. On the other, other hand, the kid in me would not oppose seeing the Joes, Transformers and/or ROM back into the MU, no matter how it would work.

It'd be cool to see, but it would just cause too many headaches, I think.

Were the Dire Wraiths owned entirely by Marvel, like the Spaceknights? I'd really like to see them again.

I'm not sure. I think the Dire Wraiths played a part in the Contest of Champions II, didn't they? That would've been the last time I saw them.

I think the Brood were working as semi-slaves to either the Badoon or some other alien race. I thought I remembered the Dire Wraiths factoring into the story somehow, though...

EDIT: According to Wikipedia, CoC II was grandmastered by the Brood. I wonder where I'm getting the Dire Wraiths image from, then...

I'd love to see the Micronauts back into the Marvel Universe... but as it stands, they can only use their own creations, like Bug for example.

:csad:

Didn't PAD make pretty good use of the Micronauts in one of the storylines with Captain Marvel?

And I was just going through all of these toy tie-in books in my crapbox reviews.

ROM and Micronauts were really good. Shame about Bill Mantlo.

I'll buy GI Joe if it's made with audio like those irritating hallmark cards

using the cartoon voice actors:up:

well, for Cobra Commander and Sgt Slaughter anyway

Isn't Cobra Commander/Starscreem dead?

I don't know dude

haven't paid any attention to GI Joe since I was 5

Not Jake is really 36 years old. He lives in his mother's attic and he has 14 cats.

32 and 12, don't go spreading lies about me just because I broke up with you

Sure, it was. Now, go clean yourself up. Daddy's hungry. :o
