Now hold on before we get our panties in a bunch, I'm not suggesting, in terms of quality at least, that ROC is anywhere near the original Star Wars. But I feel in tone and mythology (and let's be frank, they straight copied wholesale quite a few elements) the comparison is more than appropriate. And don't give me that crap about it being silly, we can take Star Wars as serious as we want to, but our parents thought it was ******ed and goofy just like I thought GI Joe was, but in a good way
To be honest, GI Joe was relaunched to piggyback off the success of the Star Wars action figures in the first place, so without a New Hope, we might never have had a cartoon or comicbook. If you ask me, it's almost poetic that GI Joe returns years later to ape the franchise yet again.
The overall feel of the movie, IMO, had that child-like charm that Star Wars had. From evil masterminds teamed up with masked madmen hellbent on world domination, to goons that look damn close to stormtroopers, and underwater battles that feel....all too familiar, I think this could be something close to a Star Wars-like trilogy for a new generation of kids. And let's face it, they get the lower grade quality of everything anyway, why not this? Put yourself in the shoes of that young child who watched Star Wars for the first time, that same child would've gone crazy for The Rise of Cobra and you know it
