GALACTUS Discussion

As good as Michael Ironside is, I don't know he has the presence about him that Galactus would require. I really like Peter Weller. If you can't get him. Go with Tobin Bell. Galactus will mostly be CGI I believe, so you would only really need the acting skills of either of those actors.

I thought the SS movie was dead now, has some more news come out lately that I somehow missed?

I haven't heard anything, but movies are never dead. As long as the idea is out there and there is the slightest potential for a box office draw there is a chance. For SS to be successful, I think he will have to be in another F4 movie.

Alcatraz are you bugging? When didn't some one know hally berry? Everyone ur right about lol

Totally disagree, FF2's only value were the SS scene's, he could more than hold his own movie IMO.

The artist Daniel James Cox worked on designs for the Galactus sequences in FF2 but apparently (and maybe not so surpising) the studio are preventing him from showing his work! Looks like he got creative and found a loophole by drawing a piece of that was close to what he did for the film.

Galactus

This was kinda close to the stuff i did for the FF2 film, but as i'm never apparently going to be able to show that stuff (thanks Fox!), this was one i did on my own.

I think That the perfect way they could have introduced Galactus in the movies would have been to show the cloud coming to Earth (hint that the space ship was inside, like in Independence Day) then when the Surfer goes to stop him and goes inside the cloud somehow hint at a giant being and his spaceship inside it, like maybe hint at a giant hand or a silhouette or parts of him and parts of his ship. Or maybe just hint at a silhouette somehow but end it there before the final confrontation.

But since they already showed him in the movie like that, which I mostly don't remember so I may say something that doesn't fit with what actually happened, they could just explain it using the Jack Kirby origin of Galactus.
That he was a being who was so powerful and made of pure energy, and later (perhaps in another movie) they could have Galactus create his armor like in the Kirby Origin.

Because even though it might be hard to make him for a movie, or maybe even seem a little too ridiculous for a movie, I think its the Kirby design that people love and not just the idea of a being that eats worlds.

Absolutely perfect.

What the hell is up with fox...were they "worried" about Transformers comparisons or something?

I the the problem is that with any comic book movie you have a limited budget.
Comics are sort of movies, where the writer and artists can do whatever they want because there is no budget on special effects, or actors, or settings,
but when you make a comic book movie you take a story that had no limitations on budget for the most part and add in whatever budget the studio feels comfortable giving you.
With FF2 I don't think they had much faith in it so they gave it less money than it required.
First you need money for the special effects for the FF's powers, then you need money for the Silver Surfer who was all CG, then you need money for the fight scenes, then you need money for everything else including Dr. Doom, the cast, and so on.
Galactus would have probably cost a lot to make too.

It wasn't a question of money more that they wanted 'save' the big reveal for the SS spin-off movie which seems unlikely to happen in the near future.

Had they shown him in his giant humanoid form i think it would have gotten a great response from the audience. You only get a couple brief looks at the monster in Cloverfield and look at the reaction that got!

Here I thought, from the very beginning actually, that it was because of money. I thought thats why the characters didn't show off their powers as much and why fight scenes were limited.
If they had the money then they should have shown him, or at least a quick glimpse. Enough to entice the audience into wanting to see more.

Thats simply sublime stuff, if only we could have seen that in the movie, it would possibly have been THE best sequence in any CB movie ever. Damn Fox!

To see something like that on-screen really would've been something.

Instead, we got a huge 'cosmic twister'. :csad:

I agree; it looks like they made a conscious decision to save the reveal for the SS movie - problem is, they didnt figure that ROTSS would be so poor that it would put the likeyhood of the SS movie being made in serious jeopardy.

In short; I feel they dropped the ball.

The Surfer in the movie was not always CGI, the "tarnished" version was almost 100% practical [with minimal digital help].

That is correct;

I have to ask though - how is that relevant to this Galactus thread?

It is pretty obvious that he isnt CGI in the movie when he is in his tarnashed state.

That suit was an amazing piece of work though; it's perhaps sometimes easy to forget that on occasion.

Any example that Hollywood is still happy to use practical fx (and not be totally reliant on CGI) is good for me.

Watching the extras of Ironman, and how Favs was really intent on using as much real FX to blend with the CG was very pleasing to see... If only Fox would have cast a 100 foot tall guy for Galactus, then all of this hate would not have been an issue :woot:

I will say this... that pic of Galactus extending his hand toward Surfer would have taken me to the next level of geekness, if they had put it in the film.

Second that. That's what should have been on the screen in the first place.

^crazy how great concept art always is before studios get their hands on it.

Get that Day The Earth Stood Still crap out of here. That's not Glactus. It's a giant ass fog machine.

Yeah but when the smoke crap itself is supposed to be Galactus is just :barf:
