Gambit's Powahs?!

The one thing I hope they keep is the eyes. If they can't, then I don't want some half assed alternative where his eyes turn red when he uses his powers. All or nothing.

this actually brings up a question.

if gambit can charge up something's kinetic energy, could he charge up quicksilver to make him run quicker?
I don't know where it was said, but Gambit can't charge living things, like a person or an animal. He charged up part of Logan's face in Ultimate once, but it wasn't the flesh, only the metal he charged.

Fully powered Gambit could charge living matter.

Yeah, but then at that time he was too powerful and sorta boring. He shouldn't be able to do things like time travel or heal himself. I like plain old, semi-powered Gambit myself.

I hope his energy still glows of a pinkish purplish color..you never know, studio executives may hate pink.

I bet they'll change it to a red/orange color.

I like the idea that he knows he can be uber-powerful at Magneto levels... he just doesn't give f@#k. :)

Seeing how grounded so much of the effects in the previous X-Men films have been, I really can't imagine Gambit's charging showing any color at all (at least not pink, red or purple). It depends on how Hood and his team is sticking with the realism that Singer and his team first established in X1.

So, with that said, I'm thinking that the best they could do is like how someone mentioned. Let's say that Gambit is charging up the PC monitor that you're looking at. I would say, for the sake or not confusing the audience of what he's doing, he touches the monitor and a lighting-fast transparent, colorless, wave effect oscillates from Gambit's hand, encapsulates completely around the monitor and then dissipates (this effect is needed so that the audience knows that when he's touching something, he's charging it too. This is Gambit surrounding and integrating the object with bio-kinetic energy). This would all happen in less than a second (there'd be a sound effect). After this, it begins to vibrate violently....and we all know what happens after that.

I prefer almost all of the X-Men that way. I hate it when the writers make them so powerful that they can do virtually anything.

Cyclops shot red from his eyes. Why can't Gambit charge be red or pink or purple???

I'd honestly just be okay with the items smoking. I'm boring, what can I say? :o

Here's my idea again about what a1ant said (if anyone's too lazy to read the first post) :p

If optic blasts were a naturally occurring reaction to which there was a scientific reference behind it, then the filmmakers would have some justification for changing it to something natural and real. Since optic blasts only exist in the comics and they are red, it's the only point of reference they had. With Gambit on the other hand, as far as I know, kinetic energy exists in real life as resulting by various things, such as fire or heat. It's similar as to why Magneto doesn't emit any yellow or blue haze when he's moving things in the movie, because we have the scientific reference to know that when things are magnetized or being manipulated by magnets or magnetically levitated, we see that there's nothing we can see visually by the naked eye. Therefore, we see very very little in the movie but we do HEAR a faint sound of a low pulse and as seen in X2, sometimes we'll see a ripple effect.

This ripple effect that Magneto had in X2 (when he's trying to shut down and open Dark Cerebro) is something similar to the ripple wave effect I'd expect Gambit to have.

I think a sound effect similar to static or sizzling would suffice. Maybe some static sparks for added effect every now and then.

Ah...I understand. :) But I still want to see the red/pink/purple. :p

I'm more concerned with the sound effects myself. I want to hear the cards whizzing around. I always imagined that charging up the cards gave them more weight. It was the only way that made him throwing cards the way he did seem possible, so I'd like to see that shown by hearing them flying around on the screen.

I like to think of it as the sound of flaming arrows being shot.

Since it's a movie, you can bet the studio isn't going to pass up an opportunity for visual effects. When Gambit charges something, there's probably going to be an other worldly glow(similar to the first cover posted in the thread) added via CGI. They'll probably change it's color from magenta to purple or red though.

how about they charge red as he is powering them up, but they have no glow. that way he can lay them down or toss them and have a nice surprize moment later. you know, bad guys walks up see a card laying on the ground bends down "what's this" picks it up and booom :oldrazz:

Assuming Gambit uses them, even the playing cards themselves will probably be CGI, so you may be right. Haha, I don't know if anyone has ever tried to throw a playing card Gambit-style, but they definitely don't move like that in real life... so I'm sure visual effects will be vital even for the most basic things regarding Gambit's power displays.

1: Of course they're going to use cards; it's the character's trademark. Like Wolvie with his claws.

2: Throwing cards is easy; you have to put a little spin on them. You can get a good 20 feet easy; the world record being 200 feet or so.

Sorry, that's my leftover hesitancy regarding Phoenix rearing its ugly head. I'm sure they'll use the playing cards too though. There's nothing overly complicated or outlandish about them.

That's pretty impressive. I wonder if they'll keep a realistic spin or try to make them move in a straight line like in the books and cartoon? Probably with a spin.
