game cut scenes that stick with you SPOLIERS

Theres a few of them that do this for me:

FFX - When Tidus first learns the truth of what happens at the end of Yunas pilgrimage, he's just shocked into silence then starts yelling at the other party members why they didnt tell him. They basically say they didn't have the heart as it meant they'd be facing up to the fact that no matter what they do in the end it's pointless.

MGS3 (still havent played MGS4 yet, no PS3) - Ohhh... pretty much the last HOUR of cutscenes. Eveyone's double/triple/quadruple crossing everyone else and in the end pretty much everyone loses.

Max Payne 1 & 2 - I loved the way they did the whole Film Noir/comic aspect for the cutscenes.

Arkham City - The ending + credits. If you've seen them you know what I mean.

The one thing in video games that has stayed with me...

Final Fantasy 3/6-- Pretty much everything Kefka does... From Kefka invading the Esper world. 20-30 minutes of this madman just killing off an entire village of people to poisoning an entire Castle.

I'm gonna go old school:

Now I'm not sure how many people will appreciate this, but when you're a 14 year old kid, playing your first RPG, before the age of the internet and you witness the main character get killed off towards the end of the game....it is a pretty damn big shock. Obviously, Crono is brought back....but none the less. Plus you find out Magus is the prophet (and Janus)....it's all pretty damn shocking.

Damn, I wish this game got a proper sequel. :(

Compared to the vast majority of games at the time, the story telling in Legacy Kain: Soul, especially the voice acting which is still better than most games today, was amazing. It made The gameplay was alright but the story telling and voice work was like someone crammed a radio stage play into a video game. Most games during this time period, even the better ones, had atrocious voice work and dialogue. Hell, alot of games still do. Even ones specifically about dialogue.

For comparison (with spoiler) here is one of eidos's newer games more than a decade on.

MGS1's opening cinematic. First time I'd played a game that felt like it encapsulated the feeling of start of an action flick, by setting up the mission and the infiltration. The ending, with 'The Best is Yet to Come' was also pretty magical for me.

Metal Gear Solid 4's ending stuck with me. I know it's not the ending everyone wanted, but I thought it was great the way it was. Solid Snake throughout MGS4 stuck with me, as a character study and how different he was done by in large compared to the majority of other Japanese originating character creations.

Arkham City's ending cutscene and credits, too. Absolutely.

Splinter Cell Double Agent's ending (the past gen Xbox, not the 360) was great and set up Sam's breaking away from Third Echelon much better than the one on the 360. I can easily see Sam from that ending being the rogue agent he was in Conviction.

Not a cutscene per say, but damn I've never felt so used!

It's all I could think about whenever I see Kaz in Peace Walker.

That this dude is not going to a pretty ending, at all.

The original Resident Evil opening on the PS1, terrible acting but still I wish they could have made the movies more like that game.

In a funny way, the movies have wound up being more like what the games are now.

That...or the games have wound up being more like the movies.

It's all B-movie action/horror stuff really.

I really like the Resident Evil movies. Like street fighter, some fans of the series seem to be under the impression the source material is shakespeare or something sot they get abit uppity about it. As B-movies, Street Fighter: The Movie and the Resident Evil movies are very good imo. Street Fighter has had two or three very good animated movies as well.

The Resident Evil movies suck. They suck as "B movies", they suck as an adaptation of the game series. They flat out suck. There is no redeeming quality to be found in those films. They aren't "so bad that they're good", they're just bad.

I dunno, I remember watching Claire Redfield's intro into one of the RE films, and it looked so bad that it was good to me. I didn't watch the entire thing, though. So, I wouldn't really know.

I do think that some fans give too much credit to the fiction of the games they like, which can probably lead to a no-win situation. I don't think most people think much about the separation of story and gameplay since they're using experience it at once or at a certain pace.

Prince of Persia was pretty close to the story that I remember liking. And that thing got pegged as "boring" and "uninteresting" by fans. I don't think people liked that game's story as much as they think they did, just really liked how it flowed with the game's gameplay.

I can't even imagine the amount of changes that would need to be made for a Gears of War film to even make any sense for storytelling purposes. That thing will either be bastardized out of the gate for the wholesale changes needed...or just wind up being a dumb, blow something up everything 15 minutes so that my attention is held, film.

I think, for me, delivering on some of the scenes that stick out to me...while appropriately making the right changes, is the only way it winds up working.

Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare: The opening to this DLC is fantastic. They nail the tone of it right away and it's really enjoyable.

I thought both endings, but mostly the evil one
where you have to kill your best bud
, in INfamous2 were both very strong.

Resident Evil, Shakespere? Not quite but the first game could of easily translated into a great film, as the game was more or less an interactive movie. And I believe the only "uppity" people are the ones who like those movies and don't like to think they are disliked, and imo I tend to think they're embarrasing to watch, with the exception of the street fighter animated movie.

Like alot of video games, it basically exists due to emulating movies.
And like alot of video games, it's inferior to movies it's attempting to emulate.

Jill Sandwich anyone?

And like a lot of movies, they are based off of other movies, books, etc. Not sure what your point of whats inferior or not. It's the end product that matters if it is good or not whether its a cut scene/movie, Resident Evil the game was a nod to classic horror/thriller. Resident Evil the film....im not sure what that was.

Jill sandwich? Yeah two please, but you can keep Chris' dick in your mouth

Chris by male standards is very attractive. Indeed, every character is Resident Evil is pretty much an idealized version of human form. So when you imply his penis would be in my mouth, I am assuming you aren't implying he is unnattractive but that I am a homosexual. Given how I specifically have no problems with homosexuals, that isn't really insulting. However, you using them as something to be used as a derogatory insult, as something socially unacceptable, probably is. I'm very dissapointed that you have jumped a conversation to insults on the basis of "you don't like what I am saying". Thats usually a sign of loosing an argument. As well as a poor attitude in general.

On topic, one of Street Fighters weaknesses in comparison to Tekken is it's story telling.
Even today Street Fighter has problems using anime cut-scenes that do not meld well with the rest of the game. Tekken on the other hand uses fairly entertaining FMV's that encourage me to replay the story mod for each character, as well as unlocking further characters. Tekken 3 was probably the best as far as the Tekken games go.

The end of LA Noire sticks with me. Probably for all the wrong reasons, though...

Speaking of wtf moments. This sticks out because it just turns into total psychobabble. It's from a game called "Necrovision" I think it must be a really, really bad English transalation.
