I was away the last 12 days, fortunately my hotels had HBO.
Watchers on the Wall was incredible. My first viewing, I was really pissed off with how it ended, I expected Stannis and his army to show up at morning. Then I remembered the book was different, he attacked when Jon was in Mance's camp. I watched it again and was able to appreciate it. Grenn's death was sad but heroic. Pyp's was tragic. Jon was awesome and I loved that they let Alisser Thorne shine. He's a dick but he's still a man of the Night's Watch.
The Children was good, there were a good amount of deviations but I didn't mind them. The biggest was Jaime not telling Tyrion about Tysha. I understand why they didn't do it since viewers wouldn't remember the story from season 1 and it's much more effective of hearing the story through Tyrion's thoughts than a character telling it. I never liked the way Tyrion and Jaime departed. I understood it in the book but it makes less sense in the show since Tyrion already admitted he would never kill Jaime's son.
Seeing Stannis arrive North was awesome. I'm really looking forward to season 5 and having scenes with Stannis, Mance, Jon, Davos, Mel, and even Sam. They have a good chance of world-building more with Stannis talking about Sam's father, Randyll (who I hope gets introduced as the new Tywin-esque character).
The Brienne and Hound fight was great. It makes his wounds more debilitating (I still think he lives). I liked that Brienne's story wasn't her making a pointless roundtrip and getting half her face chewed off.
With Lady Stoneheart, I was surprised she didn't show up. There was just so much to cover, they couldn't give it justice. They usually have an early season shocking moment and I think that will be it now. They can mention the BWB again and how Freys are being killed. Then end episode 2/3/4 with the Brotherhood catching Merrett and revealing Cat is alive.
