That last scene with Tyrion was very touching, thanks to the glory that is Peter Dinklage.

Countdown to the mod banhammer. See: Matt's GoT announcement post.

Yeah, Matt went all "Mad King" and banned any discussion of spoilers.

Eh, I think it was a good movie. 90% of the discussion on here turned into pages of spoiler tags discussing book events. There's another forum for the books. Leave this for TV.

I wouldn't consider it 'Mad King'-ish or that he's forbidden all spoilers - just ones pertaining to significant future events. Explaining a new character's background seems fine, if I'm not mistaken.

You've been around for the entire discussion and know the situation. Basically, spoiler discussion had gotten so prevalent and blatant to the point people were complaining and TV viewers were leaving the thread to avoid accidentally getting spoiled. Matt's decision to forbid overly spoilery material is his attempt to get those people back and to restore the thread as one where they can safely read and contribute to the discussion.

Some of the best things when reading A Song of Ice and Fire are the many surprising turns and shocking twists that occur in the story. Without the surprises, the story would be a lot less enjoyable. So, I think it's only fair that we try not to rob TV viewers of this experience.

Agreed.

I just bought a box set of the first four books, but I started avoiding this place a few weeks ago because it was basically all book spoilers talk. What got me into GOT was the TV series and I wanted to see people's reactions about that. But I ended up getting spoiled on a few (luckily small) events that happen.

I just got a mental image of Matt burning Boom alive like Ned's dad.

:hehe:

Game of Hype.

Not necessary, Boom has enough suffering in his life being a Cincinnati Bengals fan. So I shall simply delete the spoiler and ask him to read the announcement. Then next time I can burn him alive! All fear the Mad Mod! :pal:

Watch your back...I may go Modslayer on you

The Tyrells have nothing to gain by supporting Robb. The Riverlands put themselves in enough danger allying with them. The Reach borders the Westerlands, Crownlands, Stormlands, and Dorne and has no natural terrain to help defend them, it would be another Field of Fire if they allied with the Starks. They had little to gain from allying with Stannis because they know he despises them for the siege of Storm's End. Margaery is their meal ticket to power, they need her to marry someone in a position of power which was Renly and now Joffrey.

Eh...that was exactly my point. The Tyrells could have supported anyone and whoever they chose would have become the instant winner/dominant force because their power will have just nearly doubled. They would get nothing out of allying with the Starks and they are furious at Stannis....so they decide to cut a deal with the Lannisters. The Tyrells get their Queen and the Lannisters don't get slaughtered by Stannis. All in all, Renly was smart to court them and Stannis was short-sighted to dismiss them.

I liked Stannis early on because I found him interesting as you hear much about him in the first book. I didn't really like him until the climax of the third book and his plans in the fifth. He may be a hypocrite, but he is doing the right thing.

I admit he wins me over some in the third book. But not enough to like him. His new allies also don't trust them given how one feels the need to hide a certain kid from him.

Storm's End is still held by men loyal to Stannis. Joffrey only pardoned the lords captured at Blackwater who asked of it.

Oh, I couldn't remember. Given how much emphasis was put on Dragonstone I forgot that he still had Storm's End. Still, most of the Stormland lords have switched sides at this point in the story. Hence, Stannis's desperation in the third book.

Stannis had no way of courting them, Renly was very close to Loras and a prime husband for Margaery. They have a mutual dislike with Stannis, an alliance between the two was never really in the cards. The Tyrells only play for the winning side and never get their hands dirty. All Mace did during Robert's Rebellion was camp outside Storm's End for a year.

The good ol' days when drogo and xaro xaro were friends...

:lmao:

Sorry about that, Matt. Won't happen again .

Watching the finale was like watching an mtv music video. The amount of jumping around from character to character was ridiculous. This show is not meant to be crammed into ten episodes.

It's been that way since episode 1...you just figured that out 20 episodes in?

The problem isn't the number of episodes but that the show has Loads and Loads of Characters (particularly, main characters) to the point of absurdity. Because of this, each character can't have much screentime per episode.

I just noticed that Catelyn Stark was also Hermione's mother in Deathly Hallows Part 1.

Eh. I think it's working so far. I mean, I certainly think it can be done. Heroes did it well...to be fair it did it well for one season. (Well, maybe two, S4 wasn't that bad), but I think they're juggling the characters quite well. I enjoy it anways.

Also, I did start the first book, and even though I know what's going to happen (the series really did stay surprisingly accurate to the books) it's cool to get little tidbits about the history of the realm that you don't get in the series.
