Couldn't decide whether to put this in the misc films or misc TV series or Thrones forum. So instead I settled for the best.

This thread is not about discussing which franchise is better. I don't know how many hardcore fans there are of each on GAF and that could go on forever.

My question is just this: which series is prettier to watch, aesthetically when watching any one part of the series, which one visually impresses you more?

My vote goes to Lord of the Rings.

What do you think?

Lord of the Rings.

There's also the Books and Music section.

Game of T is cool and all, but is visually generic. LO The Rings is more visually appealing.

I like GoT better. The characters are more interesting, the setting is more to my liking and people behave more like people as opposed to how LoTR has them set up.

One out of three isn't bad. :oldrazz::cwink:

Either one would have been fine. I'll choose :oldrazz:

Lord of the Rings

No, this has nothing to do with my username, which makes me sound a LOTR fanboy (i'm not).
The reason is that.........sadly, i never watched the Game of Thrones tv show.

Yeah, i'm 1 of the 2 ;)

But i do want to watch it, i want to since the beginning, but weirdly enough, something always came up.
So, i have 6 seasons to watch.

It's not even close for me, LOTR without a doubt.

Lord of the Rings. I find Game of Thrones disgusting.

TBH, I don't think it's a fair comparison. I LOVE GoT and there are few people who are more familiar with LotR than I am. I'm actually one of those people who think Jackson whiffed by not including Farmer Maggot, Bombadil, Fog on the Barrow Downs, Glorfindel, etc.

The point is that PJ was doing 3 feature length movies with the budget to match and GoT, while very, very impressive doesn't. I would love to see some quality Tolkien work on HBO.

I'm a little confused by some of the answers I'm reading. The question is which I like aesthetically more so I will answer I like the look of the Lord of the Rings universe more. The settings locals costumes and weapons just look more ancient and lived in to me while also more fantastical.

The Lord of the Rings is better and more consistent. Being feature films really helps, plus aesthetic, establish through decades.

Game of Thrones has it's moments of aesthetic brilliance. I really like the look of the North, north beyond the Wall, outfits of northmen, crows and so on. Islands look great, Dragonstone. But I dislike nearly everything in the South. From King's Landing to the stuff beyond the Narrow Sea.

There's also the Books and Music section.
this thread has already been moved but

first of all, this thread is to do with the adaptations. how exactly would the books and music sections be appropriate for "aesthetics"?

and second of all, even if you had an argument, you'd only be further proving my point that with so many places this thread could've been posted that ultimately the community forum is where it was published.

LotR is a little prettier. Game of Thrones has more depth of character and plot. Cinematography in comparable in both. Special effects, costumes and makeup are way more impressive in LotR.

I think the equivalent is true of the books too. LotR books are more detailed and descriptive when it comes to settings and "aesthetics." While ASoIaF is way better at weaving character plot and drama.

quite surprised by the poll. i really thought this discussion would be way more even.

Is it even comparable? Look at John Howe's and Alan Lee's concept art's, drawings and paintings of Middle-earth, some of the most beautiful things ever put on paper (or whatever they paint on), IMO.

Game of Thrones for me is better, but i still love Lord of the Rings just not the Hobbit films.

Lord of the Rings easily. The Shire alone is more beautiful than anything in GOT. I'd also make the argument that without Lord of the Rings, there is no ASOIAF, but that's neither here or nor there.

They're not comparable, at least not to my mind. Peter Jackson's LotR movies are three of the most visually gorgeous films ever produced. I know some Tolkien fans aren't entirely satisfied with the content of the films due to their omission of some characters and plot lines and the changes made to others, but one thing I've never seen anyone complain about are the absolutely incredible costumes, props, weapons, armor and sets, not to mention that New Zealand scenery. All the different lands and cities of Middle-earth are each so unique, visually stunning and rich - The Shire, Rivendell, Lothlórien, Gondor, Rohan, even Mordor itself. I've never seen such complete and flawless world building in any other movie or TV show to date.

And yes, John Lee and Alan Howe's concept art is utterly amazing. I have a whole book of it and I can spend hours pouring over every detail of every drawing. It's why the end credits of both the LotR and The Hobbit trilogies are my favourite end credits of all time:
