Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister would be perfect. I think if they get him and someone who is a "known" name to play Eddard I think the show would catch on.

There's a Dinklage rumor on AICN. I hope it's true.

The pilot script is onlinehttp://www.box.net/shared/e046azo9j2

So it looks like filming will begin in October this year in Irland.

McCarthy to Direct Dinklage in HBO's Thrones
Source: The Hollywood Reporter May 6, 2009

Tom McCarthy has come aboard to direct HBO's fantasy pilot "Game of Thrones," on which the star of his first feature, The Station Agent's Peter Dinklage, has been tapped for a key role.

Based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling "Songs of Fire and Ice" novels, "Thrones" is described as an epic struggle for power set in a vast and violent fantasy kingdom. Dinklage will play Tyrion, the Queen's brother who is treated as an outsider because of his size.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss wrote the pilot script and are executive producing

Never heard of this but the way some of yall are describing it it sounds more like an adult fantasy series instead of kiddy stuff like DragonLance or Chronicles of Narnia. Ijust wish hbo would bring back Carnivale cuz that show was beautifully magnificent

This is gonna be so awesome it hurts to consider! Too bad my favorite guy Eddard ... well I don't wanna ruin it for people who are not done with it.

Oh, and who's gonna play my dude Jon Snow? Or Robb? Will the wolves be played by german shepherds in the first season then CGI later on? Seriously, the wolves are my favorite parts, wolf dreams baby.

Oh, Sandor Clagene's gonna look intense!

Trust me, you won't find a more adult fantasy than ASoIaF. It has nothing to do with the kiddy stuff like Narnia, cause this it's not a kiddy fairy tale about family-friendly adventures in fairy tale lands; it's more like a bloodbath fest of betrayal and violence, with massive emphasis on character development, and with almost no black and white moral areas - everything is grey, almost nobody is just a good guy or a bad guy. It's frakking awesome.

Anyway, for the first casting news... Dinklage was more or less the fanboys' dream actor for Tyrion, so everyone should be happy. I, personally, can't wait for the whole thing.

Yea if anyone reading this hasn't picked these books up, do yourself a favor and get to the bookstore you won't regret it.

This news is so awsome. I'm more stoked for this than any comic movie (even Avengers). Direwolfs, Others (actual scary ones not LOST one), 700ft Wall of Ice, Skycells, and thats just the first book.

I hear what you are saying, but I think Ed Stark's a truly good guy ... but we all saw what that got him.

Love the username by the way. May you live in interesting times.

Eh, the exception only confirms the rule :oldrazz: Yeah, Ned Stark was a truly good guy, just like, say... Gregor Clegane was truly a bad one. But most of the other characters have more or less grey morality. Sure, some are light gray and others are dark gray, but my point is that everyone is believable as an actual human being, which is uncommon in fantasy. Truly good and honest people like Ned Stark exist in the real world, and so do monstrous psychos like Gregor Clegane.

:cmad: The interesting times are worst to live in!

I never understood that saying. How can an exception confirm a rule? If it does not apply universally for all then it's not a rule then is it.

I'm just hoping it doesn't look all pretty like most fantasy they do now. I want it to be down and dirty, gritty like the King Arthur movie with Clive Owen. There are places that have to look all cool like Hardenhal or the Vale, but I want most of it to leave you with that dirt under your fingernails feeling.

Well, in this particular case, Ned Stark's goody-two-shoesness contrasts with the grey morality of characters like Tyrion and Jaime Lannister, Sandor Clegane etc. and thus shows their nature even better. Besides, to me Ned Stark is more like a plot device designed to move the storyline forward with his demise and to show how merciless author Martin is, rather than a really important and deep character for the series as a whole.

As for the look of the series... I just don't believe that they will make it all pretty and shiny. It just won't happen, we can rest assured about that, I think.

I like Peter Dinklage...he was great in Nip/Tuck and Find Me Guilty...he's perfect for Tyrion Lannister

Winter is coming says that Sean Bean is Eddard. Whoa! Also rumors abound that Gillian Anderson is Catelyn. That would kick some major butt in my opinion.

I love Sean Bean, and him as Eddard works for me

but anyone whos read the books knows that Eddard gets it by the end of the first book

They have cast not only Eddard but Jon Snow, Viserys, King Robert, and Jofferey (he's the scared kid at the end of Batman Begins). Go to Winter is Coming for the rundown. Bring on the Ladies (Dany, Cat, Cersi, Arya) now!

Im not sure how I feel about Addy for King Robert....Robert is supposed to be a BIG man...Addy is good sized, but not enough IMO

I think GRRM girlfriend said his audition tape was amazing (Addy's that is). GRRM is most excited about Jon Snow it looks like from his remarks on his blog. He definately looks the part. This show could be huge. Consider me officially geeked out over it.

Another role is filled.

Jennifer Ehle will play Catelyn Stark. Never heard of her before so I have no idea what to expect. She fits the part lookwise.

And GRRM says he has some more cool news.

I like Addy, so Ill give it a fair chance

Im sure they'll fix the blonde thing...he just needs a clean shave and he should be decent...interesting to see who is cast as Cersei
