The band Garbage which brokethrough in the 90s and known for songs such as "Only Happy When It Rains" and "I Think I'm Paranoid", is coming back with a new album due early next year.

They just released a cover song for a U2 compilation album. This is their rendition of "Who's Going To Ride Your Wild Horses".

Hmmm, I hope they return more to their roots then. Their last album was pretty meh. It seems to me, and I've always enjoyed them, that each release becomes more "poppish", or at least Beautiful Garbage and Bleed Like Me were. Version 2.0 is a perfect album in my eyes, and I hope we get something along those lines.

For a second I thought this thread was about the new Lou Reed/Metallica album.

I thought that Bleed Like Me was pretty damn good.

OMG, I loved them in the 90's. I have an actual "90's Nostalgia" playlist on my iTunes and Garbage is a major player on it, lol. Version 2.0 was definitely my favorite, but their later albums did have their moments. (I've got a big soft spot for "Bad Boyfriend" tbh) I'll certainly be interested in hearing what they put out next year.

According to recent interviews they say that hardcore Garbage fans will love the album, saying it has the energy of their debut and Version 2.0. They're releasing the album by themselves, no record label this time.

In this particular interview they mentioned they even incorporated a saw as an instrument. Looks like it's going to be pretty damn good.

Shirley was one of my first celeb crushes. Love "Stupid Girl". Liked their Bond theme too.

Ladies and gentlemen
It is our great pleasure to announce for the first time in 7 years the first two confirmed performances by Garbage will take place in St. Petersburg, Russia on May 11th and in Moscow, Russia on May 12th 2012.
We are beyond thrilled to revisit Russia where we have played to incredible and memorable crowds over the years, where we have seen so many wonderous things and met so many lovely fans.

Press-release for Record Label and New Studio Album

GARBAGE LAUNCH STUNVOLUME RECORD LABEL AND WILL SELF RELEASE THEIR NEW ALBUM IN THE UNITED STATES IN SPRING 2012

BAND WILL RELEASE ALBUM ACROSS THE GLOBE VIA LICENSING DEALS WITH COOPERATIVE MUSIC, LIBERATOR, SONY AND UNIVERSAL CANADA

LOS ANGELES, CA – JANUARY 23, 2012 - Today we announced the launch of our record label , STUNVOLUME. We will self-release our upcoming studio album later this spring. We have had our fill of greedy corporate interest. We don't like how they do business. This time we are going to do it our way.

STUNVOLUME will be distributed by Fontana in the United States. Around the world, we will release our album on STUNVOLUME via licensing deals with Cooperative Music in Asia, Europe and Latin America, Liberator Music/The Mushroom Group in Australia and New Zealand, Sony in Japan and Universal Canada in Canada.
Our aim is to put out music that is pure of heart.

We have been in the studio putting the finishing touches on our fifth studio album, our first in seven years. The new album is being recorded at Red Razor Sounds in the Atwater Village area of Los Angeles, CA. This is the first of our records to be recorded outside of Madison, WI. The album is being produced by Garbage, engineered by Billy Bush, and mixed by Butch Vig and Billy Bush.

Our intention is to make a great record that we have written, recorded and produced as a band.
We intend to tell the truth.
We are one.
Even though it's hard.

Garbage is Shirley Manson (vocals), Steve Marker (guitars, keyboards), Duke Erikson (guitars, keyboards) and Butch Vig (drums, loops).

One of the greatest concert experiences I ever had was seing Garbage in 2005.

Shirley was so incredibly sexy onstage, jumping up on the montitors and rousing the audience by sticking her tongue out at us, and did the whole (ageing) lolita thing. At one point a roadie came on stage and changed her boots. Absolute diva stuff. Loved it. I felt almost high on the way home.

I totally missed that they released a new album. I'll have to check it out. I was in love with Shirley back in the day.

The album is not yet released, it's out May 15th. However, they just released a new single which you can hear in a couple of posts above. :yay:
