Sci-Fi Gareth Edwards's Jurassic World Rebirth

Yeah they're losing me a bit with this mutant thing.

Now this is surprising. I figure it has mostly to do with Superman having called dibs the following week but did WB call dibs with F1 for that week?
Yep. F1 has a 2-week exclusive which means they have the IMAX screens until Superman. What I find dumber is that Universal is choosing to share their remaining PLF bookings (Dolby, Prime, BigD, etc) with M3GAN 2.0, so this movie won’t even have those to itself either. I guess now they have a circumstance to blame for if/when it doesn’t hit a billion! 🤷‍♀️

I'm okay-ish with the mutant (D-rex?) because it doesn't seem like it's getting the majority of screentime like the Indominus did in the first Jurassic World. It looks like there are a couple of "main threat" actual dinosaurs in this between the Quetzalcoatlus, the T-Rex, the Mosasaurus and the Spinosaurs...I also have to assume that raptors will be involved and they won't be "friendly" like Blue.

We're missing out on hearing the T-Rex roar in IMAX again all because Brad Pitt made a movie encouraging senior citizens to get behind the wheel of a car. :o

Telling yall, I aint saying this is gonna flop, but I feel like this franchise is vulnerable and this won't reach a billion
Without IMAX, it could come up short. Not to say it can't be done but if you look at the list of movies that reached a billion, nearly all of them were released in the format. Barbie was able to do so without it but even that had an IMAX release well into its run after it made $1B. I believe the only other ones to hit $1B without IMAX before that were Titanic and Return of the King but that was some time before Hollywood blockbusters were normally released in the format.

I'm not sure what the IMAX to regular screen box office ratio would be for something like this compared to Oppenheimer where the audience is encouraged to watch it on an IMAX screen but there's a lot of appeal in seeing a Jurassic movie in IMAX even if it wasn't filmed for the format.

It will come down to the international audience about whether it hits a billion or not.

And I can understand a bit with Universal hedging their bets with Megan.

ugh...dammit...this trailer is actually pretty damn good. I was lowkey hoping for this movie to look 'meh' cuz I need Superman to succeed, but I can't deny that everything looks WAYYY better in this trailer. Dialogue still sucks tho 😆

The plot still sounds pretty dumb and you can kinda see the twist coming already thatthe DNA is actually for another military hybrid or at least not for a very altruistic reason but the dinosaur stuff looks class so I guess that’s a win.

The action certainly looks good and Edwards always delivers there. It's characters he doesn't always hit the mark and nothing in the trailers is telling me that will change. But the guy certainly knows how to do spectacle.

I thought the new trailer looked good and I'm cautiously hopeful this will turn out better than the last few. There's still something that bugs me with the CGI though. Looking at that T-Rex raft sequence for example, it looks fun and it looks like a cool set piece but for me it looks overly CGI to the point it takes me out of it a bit.

It sucks 30 years later to still be bringing up the original movie but that T-Rex sequence when it breaks out is still the best a dinosaur has looked in a Jurassic Park movie and it's all down to a mixture of the animatronic and HOW they filmed it because of limitations (so heavy on the rain, using CGI sparingly and such). It just felt real in a way that this doesn't. And this is just a trailer and I'm sure it will look better in the movie.
