I love Gatchaman, and I mean the original Gatchaman. I wonder if they can actually meet the 2008 release date.
Thing is, Gatchaman is NOT Battle Of The Planets. It's not G-Force and it's not Eagle Riders. It's the original and Japanese version of those shows before they were cut, edited, Americanized, and sanitized. That means the characters have the Japanese names, sexually perverted tendencies (Junpei's a teenager with a lot of hormones), dark pasts ("Condor" Joe Asakura is really screwed up), gender confusion, and more often than not they ****ING KILL THE CRAP OUT OF STUFF.
I mean this isn't the The Ultimates or any garbage like that. Overall they are good guys, but the above reasons are why the show as it was wasn't appropriate for children.
So I mean, I doubt this movie would be cheap. Is there really a market for an animated PG-13 and darker type of superhero movie that Munroe claims he is making? Especially with it being animated, those types of movies usually fail at finding a mainstream audience. Not to mention, a lot of people who grew up watching this show, didn't watch Gatchaman, segmented nostalgia you know. It's not like Ninja Turtles fanbase either which is still pretty strong.
Still I'm excited about this, and the artwork looks great and faithful to the original anime.
FYI,
ADV was the first company to release Gatchaman in it's original and true, unedited form on DVD. Including a new English dub faithful to the original Japanese translation.
