Was there ever a moment you had where you became fully comfortable with your geekiness, a moment when you realized that being a geek wasn't a bad thing?

Kick-Ass. I had accepted it before, but upon reading the GN (moreso the flick) I realized the truth.

When I set the ringtone on my phone to be the Transformers' transformation sound.

When I purchased a pair of Spider-Man boxers.. and Spider-Man's face was right on my ****.

:X

I love how that post right there was my first post in two months.. lmfao!

When I got my Punisher tattoo 16 years ago.

Putting a Autobot faction logo on my car :woot:

In my 3rd month selling cars, I outsold three 20 year veteran salespeople. Not only in units, but also in profit. They thought that I spent too much time studying product manuals and sales training books. I guess I showed them.

I have a pair of Joker boxers and his smile is right over that section. :awesome:

Another geeky thing would have to be heading to San Francisco to participate in that Harvey Dent for District Attorney rally.

:funny:

That was my text message tone at the beginning of this summer.

Being a geek was never bothersome to me, I guess I REALLY accepted it in places like middle school and high school, when I really saw how many ***holes there are and how lucky I was to not think it's okay to be like that.

What I like is harmless fun, and it makes me feel good. If someone can't accept that, then they can **** off. :argh:

I have the Superman theme as my ringtone. It went off in the middle of a sales meeting one time and the sales manager gave me a $100 bonus for having the coolest ringtone in the room.

I have a lot of moments where I have stopped and gone 'Wow, I really am a humungous Geek... cool :)'

1. I read a great column by Simon Pegg in SFX magazine, before I got so famous, about being a Geek. I then felt the need to show everyone this article, as it so clearly defined why being a Geek wasn't a bad thing.

2. I showed up to a halloween party with a friend. The invite had said fancy dress, but no one else had really bothered... except me... in my supergirl outfit.... and I didn't feel weird at all. I just spent the evening as usual, but with the added bonus of being dressed as a superhero :)

3. Someone bought me a cinema voucher once for my birthday, that happened to have Superman Returns on the front. I went insane with glee. He honestly had to take a step back I was so excited.

4. When I meet other people who claim to be geeks, I challenge them. Especially if they say they are a comic nerd. Most of the time they aren't really, they just think it's cool to say they are. Of course when I prove them wrong and show how much of a geek I am, apparently that's not cool... weird.

That's not weird but common in my experience. I've noticed in the 2000's it's become one of the "in things" to consider yourself a geek. I've read numerous articles in the past talking about this and how pop culture has changed and a lot of people are jumping on it. I don't know how many times i've heard people that I know are not geeks or dorky yet will call some of their other friends a dork yet if I open my mouth to talk a bit in depth about film or comic films in relation to the comics I get those looks and that vibe being back in school where you're considered a parasite.

As you said though, if you really are a true geek that reads comics and whatnot, it's still not cool since the trendy geek factor is pretty much an act. I think it's horse**** and maybe because of that, this could also be considered a geek defining moment for me.

The momment I realised people use me as a wiki for film and tv...

Seriously I wake up to texts form people in really rough detail asking about people who were in things who were in other things. It got annoying but then I gave in an accepted it.

I have a tattoo of the command to do Ryu's Hadouken on my wrist. I also have the tattoo that Jin Kazama has on his arm from Tekken

Heck yeah, it's insanely annoying... IMO it'd be like me pretending I was really into football, and a great player.

In the last few months, because there are just so many superhero movies coming out, i've found myself just blurting out randoms bits of info to people who really don't care. It's actually gotten to the point where someone will come over and sit down and go 'oh god, your not talking about superman again are you?'

I really wish I had any other friends who were geeks...

I had that! We used to do a quiz with buzzers every week. Everytime a question came up even remotely related to comics, and everyone just looked at me.... even the man running the quiz... expecting me to know the answer. And if I didn't I was treated like a complete failure :hehe:

I used to do a lot of pub quizes for a bit and one time a question was asked it went like this:
Quiz master: Dr Ego...
Me: Ghostbusters
Quiz master: ...n Spengler, Dr Raymond Stanz and Dr Peter Venkman make up which team?
Me: YOU FORGOT WINSTON ZEDDEMORE!!!
Entire pub turns to look at me...

Actually I want to add that to my defining moments...

Back in 2005 when Revenge of the Sith came out my friends and I were sitting in the back of a friend of mines mothers car waiting in a giant line of cars to get in to a midnight screening at our local drive in. the doors didn't open until 1030. It was 8:45. My friends and I piled out of the car into the parking lot, light sabers in hand and had a giant lightsaber fight (give me a break we were 13) It actually got fairly intense and when we all finally managed to "kil"" eachother a whole bunch of people that were sitting on their cars waiting started cheering. Yeah, that was fun.

Also a few weeks ago, at dinner my dad asked me was comicon was. After my explaination my dad reply was " A bunch of movie geeks eh?"

To which my mother interjected "You're talking to one, hon." Yeah when even your mother calls you a geek, it's official.

When Batman TAS was better than all the other cartoons, I knew I was on to something.

First time I saw Ninja Scroll, I knew the other kids were missing out.

When the Matrix first came out and people realized how cool cyberpunk could be. I was like "where have you guys been" since I had been reading Ghost in the Shell way before then.

Ninja Scroll was awesome, I felt the same way about Akira

Sounds more nerdy than geeky. :o

Nerds are studious, smart and generally socially inept. Geeks are fairly socially competent with a near-obsessive interest in something frivolous.

I realized that I was both when I learned the above definitions.

I just laughed so hard I spat out what i was drinking! :hehe:

I have a couple more.

1. When I was about 15, my friend and I started weirding people out by very loudly have a discussion about being Vampires who were taking over the world. We would discuss our attack plans and ramble about how the banshees were being uncooperative.

I realised just how much of a geek I was when we stopped one day and said 'wow, we are really good at this'...

2. Coming back from watching Superman Returns at the cinema, I had my eyes close in ecstacy daydreaming it over in my head (i know it sucks, but at the time i was in heaven... it was a superman movie!). My friend called out 'what's that', and I open my eyes and there is this blue thing streaking across the sky... for about 60 seconds I was very very confused... I knew it couldn't be Superman and did eventually come around and dismiss it, but for a second there... LOL

P.S. turned out to be a comet... was actually called blue something, i can't remember now

3. Anyone else find themselves unconsciously correcting people when they say Christopher Reeves?

I must be an amalgam. Socially inept people don't make good salespeople.
