ABC has turned the series of quirky Geico commercials featuring caveman characters into an actual half-hour comedy project, reports Variety.

"Cavemen" will revolve around three pre-historic men who must battle prejudice as they attempt to live as normal thirtysomethings in modern Atlanta.

The project, from ABC TV Studio, is written by Joe Lawson, an advertising copywriter who was behind the "Caveman" ads -- as well as other Geico commercials like the cockney-speaking Geico gecko.

Daniel Rappaport, Guymon Cassady, Will Speck and Josh Gordon are executive producers. Speck and Gordon, commercial directors who recently helmed the Will Farrell feature Blades of Glory, are on board to also direct.

Jeff Daniel Phillips and Ben Weber play the cavemen in the Geico spots; no word if they'll make the transformation to the TV project.

I hate that commercial and the I hope the show bombs

I love the commercials but a tv show? If there's no laughtrack, I'll give it a shot. I think it could be awesome if it's done like the commercials.

I've been looking for a really funny show to watch for years. Hopefully this is it.

I definitely agree on the "no laughtrack" point. The best sitcoms recently have been the ones that didn't rely on them, or the live studio audience.

I'm skeptical, just from the fact that schticks really works well in small doses rarely work in expanded format. Of course, I look at how the Simpsons began, and think that maybe this could work. The Pilot would have to be phenomenal. It'd really have to break ground as far as sitcoms to really sustain itself.

I don't know what to make of this. It seems like it would be better suited as a recurring SNL sketch that appears four times a season, not a 22 minute sitcom with 22 episodes. Ernest P. Worrell went from TV ads to TV shows and films but are the Cavemen that popular? Maybe it won't get picked up.

This could be absolutely hilarious or it could crash and burn. Or both.

The only way i can see this show being any good is if they take it 100% seriously and just write super high quality episodes with great drama and all and never explain why they are cavemen and how they are here.

the commercials are absolutely hilarious, it could work, i'll watch it for sure, give it a try.

but it seems better suited for fox or cw.

Oh I'm quite sure the opening credits/theme song will tell us why the cavemen are in the year 2007.

I found the main theme song!!!!

MAIN THEME SONG

Ohhh they froze in the round area
On a brick of ice
To travel far about this chunk of ice

Then a viking ship picked up this rotting chip
Tossed it aboard and travel to- America!!!

Then aboard a minivan they rode to the museum
And then they met Ben Stiller and now they are finally here!

A round tablet, mystical of Egypt wealth
Brought the cavemen... to life!!!

CAVEMEN: IN THE TWENTY FIRST CENTURY!

- Alright, I'm a bad song writer... I tried though- lol. And yeah, I know it's not based on 'Night at the Museum', but I thought I had to use that. Lol.

You hate things which are good. You've shown us that fact before.

This show will probably last half a season and with it will kill the coolness of the commercials. But the DVD should come with all the ads:up:

Destined for failure. If It doesnt, than I have lost faith in American television comedies. And American people. Thats a little harsh, but I dont give a sh** any more. First reality tv everywhere, then stupid laugh track sitcoms.

Please don't curse this show with a laughtrack. :( Few shows can ever pull that off.

This might last a season on adult swim but it won't last a week on primetime telvision.

Yeah, this could be funny.:woot:

Hang on, my mother's calling. I'll put it on speakerphone.

Are you sure this isn't a joke?
I mean what is the show going to be about? How these guys are constantly insulted by Geico?

I'm going to take a wild guess (VERY wild guess), and say....you didn't read the news bit conveniently located in the first post, did you?

It doesn't have to be about anything, which is just how I like it. I hope it's about absolutely nothing.

I would rather they do a show that features the Afflack Duck voiced by Gilbert Godfried.
