Why would they do that in a TV spot of all things?

I really don't get the logic behind studios sometimes.

EDIT:

Daisy Ridley also walked back the "I'm done after Episode IX" comments so everyone can stop being upset over that.
Because that just sold even more tickets.

Omg! :wow:

I'm guessing Rey's saber is confiscated so she takes Kylo's and commences whooping Praetorian ass with it.

[BLACKOUT]Or Luke has it. Or maybe Kylo is using his grandpa's.[/BLACKOUT]

Come on with this. Yeah because no one was already buying their tickets and going to see this movie opening day DarthSkywalker. This isn't exactly the Terminator Genisys hype thread.

Paramount's logic here was they had to reveal this trump card to get audiences interested to buy more tickets.

Sorry, I think revealing that in a TV spot of all things is pretty mind-boggling. It's like Sony showing Harry finding the Goblin formula in Spider-Man 2, and Paramount revealing the plot twist for Star Trek Beyond in the last TV spots.

You think she left it with Luke so that Snoke couldnt take it from her?

It may get destroyed at some point in the film. Or Luke's saber gets destroyed and he has to use the Skywalker saber.

Regardless it should be cool seeing Rey use Kylo's saber.

It'd be kind of cool too if Rey kept Kylo's saber and turned the crystal back to its natural color and used it in Episode 9. She's taken everything else that was meant for Kylo. She might as well take his saber too.:hehe:

Youre assuming they just revealed a twist.

That tv spot doesn't reveal that Rey goes darkside. It only shows her take Kylo's saber. And considering the Praetori move in to attack her she is clearly not on Snoke's side.

This is just more misdirection.
Just like the moment in the trailer when she says she needs help and Kylo reaches out with his hand.

Marvolo that wasn't what I thought it was. I simply thing it's wrong to show that footage at all in a TV spot after so much time of super secrecy. IMHO, wrong type of thing to show.

Just for example, we haven't even gotten a single frame of DJ in any of these trailers or TV spots have we? Or Holdo for that matter? If we have I've missed them. Sorry, but I think showing that was the wrong type of move.

Uh, no it isn't. Also, did you miss the trailer? Because this same idea is there.

I didn't miss the trailer. Also to avoid any confusion, it's not that idea you are referring to. If anything it's the reverse of that idea.

My point is they shouldn't be showing at all that Rey is using that. She's clearly using it to fight back against the bad guys.

People already assume she will put up a fight in the climax of the film.

The average person probably won't even notice that the Praetori move in to attack her. Its a blink and youll miss it thing in that tv spot. But even if they do notice them about to attack her only nerds even know what or who the Praetori are so a lot of people will watch that and think, "Cool Rey uses Kylo's saber at some point in the film. Maybe she is bad." Which is what the marketing has been wanting people to think already.

Or based off the footage it could mean:

Kylo Ren has turned on Snoke and decided to turn on him and help Rey.

Mind you, that's just a prediction based off of footage shown in that TV spot.

I don't know why they even bother. They could release one TV spot and one trailer, both with the exact same footage and that's it and people would still go and this would still make so much money

I really don’t see how this is a big deal

Has a Jedi besides Anikan ever used a red lightsaber before? Rey would be the only one outside of Anikan when he joined the dark side.

Obi-wan used one of Ventress's red sabers when they fought Maul and Savage Opress. Kanan used a red saber when he faced off against the Inquisitor in his trial in the Jedi Temple on Lothal.

And Anakin wasn't a Jedi when he used a red saber. He was a Sith during that time.

Ive been reading the scans of the Visual dictionary, and Luke really does
sound like a grumpy old man. I wouldnt be surprised if he yells at Rey telling her to get off his lawn.:hehe:

The visual dictionary says he slams his door in Rey's face and tries to ignore her. And after Rey hands him the Skywalker saber he just tosses it aside hoping to lose it again.

I don't think showing that is a huge deal, but it does kind of confirm the spoiler that they fight those guards together, no? The biggest question I see is if he let her take it.

ETA: And maybe she's the one that turns his saber white? That's another foiler/spoiler that's out there too.

According to someone who has seen the beginning

Poe broadcasts a transmission to Hux where both the Resistance and FO can hear and he purposely mispronunces his name as “General Hugs” and it really riles Hux up as he tries to correct him, and then Poe proceeds to make a joke akin to “your mama”. The viewer mentioned it felt completely out of place and left you questioning what the hell when the stakes are so high and the tension is so serious surrounding that moment.

Like, I’m all for comedy in SW and so far I like the Porgs because they’re animals with naturally inquisitive personalities (you know, like real life) and don’t mean to be malicious...BUT

here we have grown-ass men in the middle of battle making quips that seem incredibly juvenile and immature, as if they’ve pitted 9 year olds against each other.

And yes, I’m aware the context and acting can really sell those moments, which is what I’m reeeeeally hoping for. Because otherwise it’s going to be a No from me.

^Honestly, that's pretty funny. I'd talk some sh** to Hux too if I could. It's no different than Tyrion berating Joffrey on Game of Thrones during Blackwater. Those stakes were also high.

ALSO, based on those Dctionary leaks :

I think on the first Luke Skywalker page, it hints that Luke was going to commit suicide on the edge of that cliff and Rey just so happens to interupt him when she arrives LOL

It’s not the fact one character is insulting the other is the problem, but the actual insult could have been far less juvenile. Characters can insult each other without sounding like 9 year olds lol.

They should have gone for “General Sucks!” instead of “Hugs” :/
Like, that just sounds so immature...this isn’t Max and Ruby lol

I realize those are all cannon, but anyone in the 7 Star Wars films we've had?

The part you mentioned about Anikan being a Sith at that point and not a Jedi only makes what I'm saying more important in respect to the 7 films. The GA may have not seen the Clone Wars or Rebels. This would be a first for them. I don't think they should have shown that scene in that trailer.

Maybe "Hugs" digs deeper because Hux probably needs one, trying to be the golden child and everything. :funny:
